I come out of a party sea of thieve, with one thing I grette is that the sword is far too powerful for my taste, on the one hand when it touches me twice I'm dead and in addition it slows down the player. I'd like to know if in the next few days you'll reduce the damage or whatever.
The sword is too powerful
@burnbacon Imagine calling sword fun and balanced while a majority of times you board all 4 of the crew is running at you with swords and not even thinking. And when you do beat them by the use of blunderbuss, blunderbombs, outmaneuvering, etc, they still claim that your loadout is broken and sword needs another buff. I think the problem is people don't know how to use the sword properly. You should not be able to get juked out by a double gunner if your a "skilled" swordsman. It just shows that most of the people that complain are the ones that can't get kills regardless of how overpowered their weapon is in its current state. The standard attack is so broken that it even discourages the other uses of a sword such as sword dashing. It is so difficult using sniper pistol due to all the hit registration problems on top of the sword being the most rewarding for people that don't know how to play properly. The game will always have a skill gap regardless of how easy and casual it is. People need to learn this and accept that the other player is better rather than complaining because they can't get a kill.
@valcantar yeah, it does need a damage change. Make it go back to 20. If you need it to be 25 damage to get kills your obviously just not good
@cryclient i have really great PvP experience right now. I am using a sword and i can stand my ground vs doublegunners which are majority of players RN cos noone of them changed the weapon of choice. I've met few DG which were destroying me at the distance and i have no chance to fight back cos they were really good at aiming. I've met many DG which were running to CQC and expect that their DG will do the thing. Obviously i killed them with sword.
Do not expect that you can board an enemy ship with sniper/pistol in the same way. You all want nerf because you had a chance to reload a weapon and shot 3rd time in encounter with sword which make you 99% winner. Now if you miss a CQC shot you're dead.
@avecrux Take a moment to think about what you said. Of course your enjoying it because they buffed your weapon. "doublegunners which are majority of players RN cos noone of them changed the weapon of choice." 90% of the players I fight are mindless sword spammers that still complain about doublegun being broken after following me like a headless chicken and dying.
There is a difference between balanced and imbalancing things to reduce the skillgap. What happened here is Rare listened to the players with little FPS experience or understanding and brought this monstrosity to the game. Why is it that doublegunners should have to change loadouts or get nerfed 24/7 while sword can get buffed 24/7 and its more respected? Seems like a double standard to me.
I'd like to add this as well. The games combat is designed to use both of the weapons you select, not just one. A major misconception is that people expect to be able to rush an experienced double gunner without shooting or using any advanced movement. This is why you are dying.
I love the current version of the sword. Actually, I shouldn’t say love, it’s just as good as it’s been thus far, moving further away from clunky Minecraft type of experience. Especially as an Xbox player, the sword with another crew mate is as close as I get to getting rid of the blunderbuss/sniper combo spawn killing by excellent pc players. The people who hate the sword, double gun. The people who hate the guns, like the sword. Tribalism at its finest 2020.
@atinla first of all this isnt an FPS genre game but an Open world Adventure game with high pressure on social interactions. Sword was much better at launch and you were able to stun at 3rd shot the same way you do it to the skeletons. They nerfed it to death. That's how doublegun meta was born. You want to use sniper and flintlock at CQC but these weapons are for mid to high range combat. It is balanced. Decent doublegunner wont let a sword user to make the combat on his rules and he is staying in the distance.
In most FPS games knife/sword/whatever makes mostly instant kill or really huge amount of damage f.e Cod/Battlefield/Quake

Ok well first of all, you're wrong. DG was always the real meta, it just wasn't popularized until people realized you could noscope the EoR and instantly swap to flintlock and shoot again. Even after they nerfed that, people still played DG, and there was the slower quickswap method. They nerfed that too, and guess what? We're still playing DG. We play DG because it rewards high skill. Perfecting your aim takes a lot of time and a lot of fiddling with settings to find what works best for you. There is no high skill swordplay in this game anymore; that died when they added the longer unstow animations. All we have is a clunky sword with a block mechanic that doesn't work, a combo that requires 1 extra slash after full completion, and a lunge that is basically a death sentence to use. Good movement doesn't count for sword, because it is a general skill, and applies to both swords and guns because what you're doing is avoiding enemy projectiles (sword hops are pretty much useless, you're better off doing ENAS even if running sword)
And on the last point: all of those games also have headshot mechanics, so you can get 1-shot by a sniper as well as get 1-shot by a sneaky knife, so it's not really relevant. Nobody wants more 1-shots in this game, the blunder is bad enough.
Any combination of guns gets a kill in 2 hits; assuming they hit, the hits register, and the opponent doesn't eat. Could be 1-2+ if equipped with a Blunder.
Any combination of a gun paired with the Cutlass gets a kill in 2-4 hits; assuming they hit, the hits register, and the opponent doesn't eat. Could be 1-4+ if equipped with a Blunder.
Guns have the benefit of distance, and shooting through almost any object in the game. The Cutlass requires a player be up close, so close that they could be 1-shot with a Blunder while they are still required to connect with 4 swings.
Seems more balanced as it is now than it was before, given the current functionality of the sword anyway. If the ability to shoot through almost any object weren't an issue, the sword could perhaps be dropped back to 20 as they would be a superior choice being able to advance on a player rather than being wall-banged along the way.
All weapons suffer from poor Hit Registration, and yes, that includes the cutlass.
They need to keep things where they are and focus more on Hit Registration before attempting more balancing tweaks. Almost every single complaint is exacerbated by this, and it should be addressed sooner rather than later for any hope of proper balance between any combination of weapon.
@burnbacon wow why can't you have a normal reflexion ? He is saying that sword is sometime to much powerful and sometime it's not even powerful i'm playing sword but sometime i see that i kill someone in two shot and sometime two pistol shot + three sword strike doesn't work

more like you should stop letting swords get close to you if you can't do that then your obviously not good

The DG'ing is so broken that it even discourages to use the cutlass entirely.
It is so difficult using cutlass due to all the people doing +100damage in a fraction of a second due to using 2 preloaded guns, that can be switched in under 1s and make them both literally a one shot.
Problems on top of the DG'ing being the most rewarding for people that don't know how to use the sword properly.

if you need to shoot 2 guns in short succession or even exploit it to kill someone its obvious you're just not good!

great point! lets make cutlass an insta kill weapon if the want to play shooter!
@graphical24 sagte in The sword is too powerful:
@bugaboo-bill If I can hit two shots on the same person without them healing, it is clear that they are just inexperienced sailors. Any good player knows how to heal up, and counter 2 shots.
are you kidding, trolling or not knowing how to shoot 2 shots in under 1s?
@graphical24 sagte in The sword is too powerful:
@bugaboo-bill It's called quickly taking cover as they pull out their second weapon. It takes about 3 seconds to pull out another gun, aim, and fire. Plenty of time to go under deck, or hide behind a rock to eat.
ok you dont know how to do it, its ok.
@graphical24 i use cutlass too and dont DG, but i experienced lateley something i experienced before and got oneshootet in a fraction of a second with two guns while full health!
nope, one boarder was able to kill 2 people after he got shooted twice, but maybe one missed due to hitreg , who knows.
i tested it ingame just the minute before i can do 2 shots in 1s!

Double gunners upset?
Keep your distance kid pirates and blunderbomb away.Keep your distance on a sloop against two kids running behind you with swords.
I love how you talk on forums about " dubble gunners upset?" when these are the guys that made you turn to the forums asking for sword buffs & gun nerfs..GIT GUD.
@bugaboo-bill
If your playing against DGers that are running at you, your fighting AI dude.
They patched the quickswap, so your point is invalid on that.
I know how to use a sword effectively, but that does not mean that I enjoy it.
I'd love to see you outmaneuver a smart and quick cutlass player with two guns. Assuming you land both shots from a distance and they both reg, your good to go. But the moment they get close, your gone. Notice how I put emphasis on distance there. I can already smell the sniper blunder complaint coming, so I'll shut that down while I'm here. The games combat is designed for you to use both weapons, regardless if you use a sword or not. The best way to deal with a blunder sniper user as a sword user is to stay about half a galleon away and hit your sniper shot. Once they back off to heal, you get your chance to rush. From there, you jump behind, slash twice, jump forward, and slash twice again. Oh, did I mention there's still a way to x cancel your sword?
