4K and Missing Particle Effects

  • My brother just got our family a brand new 4K TV to replace our old broken set, and while it's amazing to see that level of detail again visually in SoT, at least twice in the past week I have noticed visual irregularities with the particle effects.

    Picture the following:

    1. Cannonballs being fired from an island with no trails.
    2. A boat wreathed in flames, but with only smoke and no actual fire.

    Weird, right?

Anybody else with 4K, or otherwise, seeing this kind of thing?

  • Are you playing on Xbox or PC? I play on Xbox One X on a 4K TV, and while the game has more than a few performance hiccups and graphical glitches, I never noticed any missing effects. Maybe it was just a glitch?

  • @galactic-geek you know me. xbox X. SSD. Vizio P series 65" 4k. and yes sometimes those effects are missing.

I have a regular HD monitor and have this issue as well.

My only guess is (and I'm no expert) is that when the cannon is fired it's too far away to bother loading the trail (opimisation) so it doesn't. And rather than doing continious updates on the cannonball's position to see if it's within render range, it is instead based of the source position of the cannonball. I usually only get this issue once or twice while approaching or leaving an island, and I can only assume it's because of optimisation. It's just a lot more noticeable when you're sailing towards the cannonball.
