This is my first guide and I think it's somthing fairly overdue since I can't see many guides popping up about it. The Shrouded Ghost is surrounded in mystery on the sea of thieves, many believe it's just a myth, the ones who don't believe that think the rate it should spawn should be increased. Lots of tales from people who've hunted it.
I'm here to give you a guide on hunting the Shrouded Ghost as I and one of my great friends have encountered and killed one of the beasts. Since we have tried to hunt for another and I have found some patterns that may lead to helping find a Shrouded Ghost.
Let us start with how it spawns. Whilst you may have heard you need to sail in the shroud to find this beast, you are not incorrect thinking that (and I'll get to that in a bit) however this shark can spawn anywhere a normal one can, granted the spawn rate is probably terribly low and it makes the encounter veeeery easy as this shark is pure white making it hard to spot in the shroud, without it's shroud it's around a minute fight at most. However what about inside the shroud? Well, here's what I've found. From what I can tell, the shroud is up for a while and slowly moves before disappearing, when the shroud is ready to disperse I have (almost every time) had a meg spawn. Knowing this you can get a guaranteed meg spawn per shroud with what I presume is a higher spawn rate for the Shrouded Ghost to spawn. I also kill every meg that spawns and both me and my friend have found this may be a factor since lots of high level pirates will just flee from the megs since they aren't worth their time (which they actually might be now). Yes, this is some minor guess work, I'm not saying this is the way it spawns but I feel it's the right track to the Shrouded Ghost.
Do I think it needs to have its spawn rate increased? No, the meg has this fable around it, other games have similar things. My closest comparison is World if Warcraft with some of the legendary items, they have something stupid of a 0.10% chance of spawning and are linked to feats of strength (super rare achievements) the Shrouded Ghost is just like that, not a regular achievement but a feat of strength. Some people I know who want to kill one skip out on shroud surfing, how will you find one without trying more?
This brings me to my next part of this guide, shroud surfing. If you want to find the meg you're gonna need to learn how to traverse the map you know blind. If your in a crew this gets easier however everyone has a part to play then. I'll start with solo crews. When solo sailing raise your sales to half (sloop only, brigs bring the front sail up and back sail to 3 quarters). For crews you can afford to go faster however your aim isn't to sail through the shroud it's to stay in it so I recommend bringing the sails up. In solo sailings that's all you can do really, just make sure you check your map and be sharp not to hit rocks. For crews with 2 or more you all have roles, get someone on the map, get someone at the front of the ship and one on the crows nest.
Finally, I'll leave you all with this. The Shrouded Ghost is not easy to find, you need to take on every meg you see, not run away. You need to sail every shroud till it disperses every time! This isn't an easy find, it's one for the most dedicated pirates. It's not about how many nautical miles you've sailed it's about where you've sailed them. You may need to sail 100, 200, 400 or even more shrouds. Do that and you can find this beast!
