I cant believe thought was put into some of these ideas. So you are asking a solo sloop player to put a flag on his ship so that multiple players in larger ships will know where he is located and give them a reward for just sinking his ship while he is on an island by himself trying to find gold or fight skeletons. Then you are also inviting this solo player to take on a voyage which takes several hours over several islands to accomplish. [mod edit]

Anyways, they aren’t forcing you to put a flag up. Your choice is valid and required.
Not all “big ships” fly the reaper flag and or have the grade 5 to see other “flag wearing ships”. Some are sloops and when they come sailing by a galleon doing gold hoarder emissary. They run XD

As others have mentioned, the raising of any emissary flag is completely a choice on the players part. ONLY level 5 Reapers Bones Emissaries (all levels of Reapers Bones Emissarries are visible to everyone at all times...) can see other ships that are also flying an Emissary flag.
If you choose not to fly an emissary flag, then you are no more visible to anyone than you ever have been previously.
It is a choice, higher rewards for higher risk.
@captainluke56 leveling up and doing missions has never been easier than it is right now. Without PvP in the game, it might as well give you pirate legend for logging in.
This update makes solo play easier for players not interested in PvP. Crews looking for a PvP-heavy session are more likely to fly the Reaper’s Bones emissary flag. This gives away their position to all crews on the server. A solo player who wants to avoid PvP just doesn’t fly an emissary flag and can watch the map and horizon to avoid conflicts. Reaper crews who reach five are much more likely to go after ships with emissary flags, so not flying one is an added level of safety. I cannot see what all the fuss is about this unless some solo players did not realize the whole point of the system. It allows players who want more pressure (and rewards) to voluntarily choose to do so, but not require it. It was a brilliant move because it allows players to accept lower rewards in return for calmer sessions.

sunk galleon, brig and 8 sloops last night as a solo. I sunk once while fighting a duo sloop who were monsters. but they sunk too.
solo slooping has never been better. so good.
