Maybe, many people as me who play reaper's bones emisary have realized that when you get level 5 at reaper's company, nobody from the server starts their emissary missions. Becouse of fear, or maybe the hatred that pvp players cause in them, new players change the server and old ones just do anything else without rising their emissary flag. So, if you want to carry on increasing your ranking score you would probably have to leave the server or waiting until a new server change.
I suggest hidding the reaper's emissary flag's level on the map in order to avoid people just quit the server and they continue gridding. From my point of view, it is pretty annoying and even bored, watching all the server full of emissaries and few minutes later, they just vanish. And stay in that situation for minutes without new emissaries and with people playing in that server, it could cause annoyance and impotence in many reaper's players.
Hidding reaper's emissary flag's level on the map
Here's my experience so far.
i'm doing mostly Athena Emissary and you are quick Grade V.
Most Reaper Ships are farming PvE and run away!
We sunk some Reapers already and selled their flags, even a Grade V Galleone when in a Sloop/Duo.
Just were on a Grade V Athena with Loot and a Reaper V Brig was too busy to sail 1square over to us to attack. So we sent a boarder with a Keg. They sunk -.-
Until all Reapers were like fake Reapers to me, they run, they dont attack even if they are just one square away.My experience was the same... when running reapers most emissaries try to turn in and leave the session. So, to combat this we would raise another emissary flag run a mission and scout the server... find a succulent target and hit nearest outpost to change faction to reaper and then go after that sweet, precious, loot. Sometimes gotta strike fast and then raise faction for turn in.
@entspeak It worked for my crew a few times to score a big haul. If I had a good reaper crew this weekend come after me while grinding out Athena 20 they may have gotten the legendary thief commendation pretty quick. Most reapers I have come across have been primarily PVE players so, easy pickings.
I do like the idea of reapers being able to raise and lower flag though... perhaps this merits some attention. What if while levelling you're status remains visible on the map, but after reaching grade 5 you disappear from the map and can see other ships. Once in combat or within 2 squares of another emissary you show up on the map again. Keeps people looking but not so visible as to run everyone off. Maybe being in combat has a cooldown on map visibility.
@xnilog I like your suggestion, there is no need to show the flag level. Said that, the update was just released and I think is a bit early to make any changes. Let's see how players will adapt to the "new environment".
For example, one thing I notice is that not every player knows how to sign for an emissary or how to drop the flag. I think that in one month or so we will have a better picture of the update.
@draka1205 Nope. Reapers shouldn’t be able to hide themselves and be able to see all emissaries on the map.
Frankly, I’m disappointed with how Reaper’s is set up. If thought it would be an end-game sort of thing requiring more skill. The ability to see all emissaries on the map basically makes the game easier - shopping for instead of hunting ships. So, basically, if you’re good at PvP, the game just gave you a smorgasbord menu. This is why people drop their flags.
I also don’t believe Reapers should be able to buy Grade V through Ashen Stash voyages.
i agree its the seeing emissaries at grade V. i think there are a few solutions but the one i like is grade V reaper hides reaper on map but doesnt show them other emissaries they still have to look for them.
its still a new update so things will continue to shape up. im more of a non reaper emissary. if i log on and there is a grade 4 or 5 reaper i just go try to kill them before doing emissaries. if i win great if i lose then nothing lost,
@entspeak said in Hidding reaper's emissary flag's level on the map:
Better to remove the ability for Grade 5 Reapers to see all emissaries on the map. That is what causes people to drop their flags. Being a Grade 5 Reaper (which is fairly easy to attain) should be a hunting job, not a shopping spree.
What would you propose as the reward for reapers grade V then?
I think its fair because from grades 1-4 you are visible.
Gives reapers a kind of intimidation factor.I like it.
@revanjstone
I don’t think they should be able to do either. Reaper’s is the easiest faction to level. Someone I know went from 1 to 75 in 24 hours. It took him that long to go from 50 to 75 in Merchants. It’s sooo easy, this faction. Any loot goes toward the Grade/multiplier, you can Grade up through PvE (or buying Ashen Stashes). People I saw on the map were Grade V within minutes - while that can take 30 to 60 (or longer) for the companies. The multiplier and ease of grading should be reward enough. No need for a minimap perk or hiding perk.
@entspeak i had wondered about that. i havent done reaper myself. i do the other factions as of now. i did get to level 20 in reaper tho without even ever doing it haha so i believe it is easier. id be fine with them having neither too but it is a real problem people leaving the game and jumping servers so they need to do something about it. maybe just taking the ability to see other ships is the way to go. maybe they should just get a quest like everyone else at grade V and they gota fight like three skelly lords and bring back their heads for mega gold/rep. might give other emissaries a reason to go fight them too.
@revanjstone Yeah, I got to 23 Reaper by chance. I'd managed to blow myself up in the Roar on my first day in the update. Frustratingly, I was a fingernail's width from Grade V Athena. So, I kept the flag. I tested to see if I could sell it to my company (nope). So, I thought I'd try selling it at the Hideout or leave it for someone. I was able to sell it for 1gp (which is how it should be). When I was about to leave, I noticed a rowboat with some glints nearby. I swam out and found 3 Grade V Reaper flags floating next to the well damaged rowboat. Free Reaper Rep.
Reapers with Grade 5, Dont have to attack other players ships to rank up the faction. Its commendations I believe so that sucks (idk I havnt touched it yet) Still...Oh well?
Dont be bitter when people leave, some do stay and like the fear and wary of...is that Reaper gonna come to me? While..Im in the DR? Bring it... xD
@xnilog personally I think the system is perfect as is and here is why..
A. If you don't show the Reaper's Rank people will simply see a Reaper on the map and no-one will put an Emissary up becayse they have no idea what level they are.
B. People opt into a considerably higher payout but it also comes with the risk of Reapers hunting you down. So some people just can't be bothered. However, some people on servers are trying to finish a Gilded run for their faction and really want to turn in everything with the high grade multiplier so they become literal loot piñatas for the Reapers. I sunk an Athena 5 Brig yesterday and they had close to 170k worth of loot on board.
@ricewynd said in Hidding reaper's emissary flag's level on the map:
I've always been of the opinion that Reapers should be a PvP only faction, having people just sail around collecting loot and just handing it to the reapers seems to defeat the point of being one.
Look! We can agree on something!
Real talk though, yesterday I saw 2 grade 5 Reapers Galleons trading loot and cashing in their flag just to do it all over again. Needless to say I was not impressed. However I was a solo sloop but I attacked them anyways. Lost twice but the third time I snuck on one and blew it sky high.
Its the little victories that keep me happy.
I have had little trouble with Reapers. Most run away or hide or try to scare you with their presence.
My crew this past week has been keeping a wary eye on them. When they hit level 4, we hunt them down to protect ourselves and other emissaries. Even if we lose our flag and level them up to 5 in the process, we just hunt them down again, but this time with stealth on our side. If they hit level 5, the server usually empties out or goes docile, so that's a plus for us. Once we sink them, they usually quit out too, giving our crew some precious alone time to relax and grind without any repercussions.
As I have always said, it's the Reapers that you don't see coming that are the most dangerous.

yah the 2.5 multiplier really isn't worth being seen on the map. I usually hunt without a reaper emmisary flag. I find servers become vacant with an active reapers bones ship.

I would like to see a server team up against a level 5 for once, and push them out; but it's just much easier to cash in, leave, and start over - not to mention, a lot less stressful.
@viperishemu2992 i like that idea of ships not moving dont show up. lets reapers sneak a bit and lets emissaries park and do pve with a slight break
I dont think anyone should be able to see anyone. Reapers dont show on map, emissary dont show on map and let the real hunting begin.
Been playing as an Emissary myself and when we see a Reaper level 5 we just go about our business. Not sure how big of an issue this really is with people leaving over it.
I'd be ok with this if they nerfed the level 5 ability of reapers (maybe with giving them some other benefit to balance it out).
What if instead of being able to see exact locations of ships, they could see which direction emissaries are on their ship compass. Maybe little glowing marks on the compass direction that match the merchant color that get brighter as you get closer to the ship.

Right? I wouldn't break the new system as is. But it would give Reapers 5's the ability to hide and plan their attack.
The OP is right. At the moment "new players" can take one look at a map and switch servers if they don't like what they see. Once they've invested into gaining a few levels into an emissary they are far more likely to "stick it out".
@viperishemu2992 100% agree. its as much about helping regular emissaries as the reapers and evening the playing field for both some. i also support an idea to make sea dogs in adventure an emissary that takes on reapers and maybe can gain something out of forming alliances. i think it hits a few things that need some work.
- sea dogs do something in adventure finally
- can really amp up the pvp into all out war on the seas. a couple sea dog ships against a couple reapers would be amazing to see. especially if they add another region sometime and up the server size by a couple ships.
- might encourage regular emissaries to ally up and stay on reaper servers.
not 100% on this idea but MAYBE lol. i dont want the reapers too get too beat up on either.
@revanjstone Totally agree! And don't worry about the Reaper's getting beat up. I've been opening a can of whooping on them for a couple days now whey they come sniffing around :). They would probably welcome the distraction of another emissary guild to fight instead.
And the Sea Dogs do need something to do....
