My ping jumps from ~60 ms to 300+ ms every few seconds. No matter the session I join and it's happening everyday since the updadte!

I don't know what to do. I tested my connection and it's very stable. I don't have any issue playing other games, even games where ping is very important, like shooters. I really want to enjoy this new content (which is awesome!) but I cannot really play with this connectivity.

Please Rare, offer me some hope! :(

  • That happened a few times to me today on one server, then we got merged to another server and it seemed to be better even though there was some weirdness still going on. Yesterday seemed to be fine though.

I assume the game is busier than usual because of the pandemic and the fact that it's the weekend, but there could be bugs that are causing problems as well.

  • The ping in this game is really bad with ping on occasion. I almost never go below 60 ping, whereas other games (rocket league, LoL, Overwatch) I'm rarely above 30.

I've also previously loaded into an Arena lobby with a player; ask where they're from, they reply 'West Coast' (US) - I am from the UK. Why UK and US players get put in the same server is beyond me.

Well actually I would hate not being able to meet somebody living across the sea in the game.
This add diversity in the interactions you can get.
    I'm kind of glad that it's possible ! :)

  • @papy-pitch I think you are missing the point.
It's fun to meet people from other parts of the world, however, that is not the main goal of Arena. One of the main goal of Arena (and Adventure or any other online game) is to deliver on a fluid and smooth online experience, with the minimum possible less lag.

If two players are from so distant places, it means that one of them is within a very long distance to the server. That player, will have a very high ping, meaning his/her experience will be bad (not fluid and smooth) with a lot of lag. This is the reason online games usually have matchmaking algorithms that place together people who are not living so far apart.

I live in Europe and, usually, I don't have issues when I'm playing with players from Europe. In this case, my ping is, usually, under 80 ms. Sometimes I'm placed with people that live on the East coast and my ping goes for ranges of 120-150ms. This is already a very bad experience, with very noticeable lag. If I'm playing only PvE, it can be bearable, but if I'm doing PvP (in Adventure or Arena) it's horrible!

Now, sometimes I also encountered people from West coast and even Australia (!). My ping on those occasions was 200-350ms and it was almost unplayable. This should never happen if you are matchmaking solo or with a crew that is from the same region! Never.

Well, okay but you did not talk about arena at all in your title or your first post. So I assumed you were talking about adventure.

  • @papy-pitch
I was talking about Adventure on my first post.
I spoke, also, about Arena, in my last post, because other people also brought that example. With Arena, we are highlighting more the PvP aspect of the game, which can also occur in Adventure, hence, specifying Arena or Adventure, changes nothing in my last reply and changes nothing in @tryeeme last reply. I believe you are still missing the point of what has been discussed, like what a high or low ping means for the player experience and why should be avoided to place people who live in different continents in the same session to keep players ping low.

Anyway, in my original post, I spoke about sudden changes of ping, between 60+ ms to 300+ ms and this, being so abnormal, shouldn't be related with the players who are connected and their residence but, with some issue with the servers or the game net code. This issue only started, for me, with this latest update and, while not yet 100% solved, it's getting better.
