Anyone else...jump 15 levels after turning a flag in? lol

  • So my daughter and I were just finished a 2 hour session to check out the new features. We were sailing as Gold Hoarders emissaries. However right before logging off we pulled into an outpost to sell our haul and saw something sparkling near the Order Of Souls tent, and it turned out to be another ships flag. Another gold hoarder (grade 5) emissary flag to be specific. We weren't sure what to do with it so I googled it and learned that we needed to turn it in to the reapers hideout, so we sailed there and did just that

And suddenly watched our Reaper reputation (a faction we hadn't even joined at that point) suddenly rocket up from 1-2-3-4-5... all the way to level 15 before it stopped

    This...is a bug right?

  • Not a bug.

You get a lot of reputations for cashing in a Grade V flag. Also I assume you had no Reapers reputation so it’s easier to rank up when your reputation is low.

Whoever left it there scuttled their ship and put the flag there for other crews instead of lowering the flag and getting the cash and reputation for themselves.

  • @kissofkilll Ah! Okay, I see. When you are a low level it's much easier to rank up, so that makes sense that it jumped up. Still...15 levels just like that was kind of wild

That was pretty cool of whomever left it

It definitely makes up for the fact that we had no idea you had to lower your emissary flag at the end to cash in (just found that out), so we just logged off after that and missed out on our emissary rewards. We were up to rank 4 so, that probably would have been a decent amount

  • @airsicktimelord maybe someone else also found your Grade 4 flag since you left it without lowering it ;)

  • @kissofkilll Here's to hoping. Itt'd be like unintentionally paying it forward :) I'd hope someone benefited at least

Though we didn't scuttle, we just logged off while anchored at the Reapers Hideout. Would logging out still leave a flag?

  • That is why it is so much worth it, to sink Grade 5 ships instead of every ship you see. The Rep is bigger than a ship with Grade 1-2

  • @airsicktimelord
skuttle should leve your flag in the water, read about it is buggy for some so they keep the flagg even after skuttle.
if ya just leve the server the ship will still be in that said server for a while and auto-skuttle and leve a flag if ya had one upp when you left that said server. but will sink as any other cheast/skulls/crate if no one finds it.

  • @burnbacon Ironically we only saw one reaper ship, which we avoided like the plague since we were hauling like 15+ chests about

Oddly did end up running into this brigantine over and over who would not let up. Seems about every 10 minutes id look over sand see these guys sailing up on us. All white sails, all lights on, and well...awful,lol (they ran their ship into rocks two of the times they charged us)

The first time we simply crippled them by cutting down their mast, and hitting them with a few firebombs, then sailing away. A little while later they came back, we sunk them, and sailed away. Several minutes later, there they were again, this time trying to harpoon us, and missing wildly with cannons, sunk them again. Then sometime later, we are on an island, digging them X'x, and I look over and sure enough...them again, lol. Gotta admire that determination I suppose, but WTH? :) . Is that all they think there is to do in this game? And why us everytime? Find an easier meal, kids...

The reapers on the other hand? Not a single encounter

  • @airsicktimelord Yes, your ship will stay for a while (5-15 minutes) then sink

  • @kissofkilll Ah! That explains something we noticed the other day. We were really wanting to go to a particular outpost to turn in the last part of our Tall Tale and be finished, however someone already appeared to be there. So I pulled us in to a nearby island and figured we'd resupply there and wait until they left

So we waited, and waited...and waited. They never seemed to leave. We were thinking "what are they doing? Why are they at the outpost for so long?". And since it was a tall tale we couldn't turn it in elsewhere, so we continued to wait...

Finally i decided screw it. I'll pull up, scope it out and try to run distraction, while my daughter tries to jump off beforehand and sneak in the back way to tun in the quest. We had this elaborate plan all hatched, with a contingency plan A and B to fallback on if need be to turn this friggin thing in

So we get there, I sail right by their ship slowly, ready to make myself a target, firebomb them, then quickly jump off the other side with a gunpowder barrel and blow up both ships if need be just to cause as much of a distraction as possible, only she runs it right in with no problem. And on top of that she also sees no one anywhere on the island... Weird. So out of curiosity I decide to search their galleon. No one anywhere on board. Huh...

Then I hop off, start walking away and moments later the entire thing suddenly starts sinking. My daughter was like "what did you do?" "Uh...nothing?". We just kind of scratched our heads at the whole thing, and then started laughing at the fact that we sat at that island forever waiting on a crew that wasn't there, lol

    Now it makes more sense
