Store stuff for next session

  • I assume this has already been talked about but I'm a fairly new player to the game. Why is there nothing stored from session to session(other than cosmetics)?

Just as you do with cosmetics, you could also store chests for example.

The other day I found an Ashen Chest but I needed to log off, and since I didn't have an Ashen Key it pretty much made the discovery way less exciting.

  • @razzv17 It wont be possible, think about all the ways that people can abuse like being chased and then log off to prevent others from taking the loot.
The game is session based progression its balanced.

  • @razzv17 Nope, one of the main parts of this game is that every session you start out fresh. That is why your ship's supplies dont stay between games.

**Ashen chest tip: If you dont end up finding a key out in the world, you can always purchase a Ashen Key Stash voyage from duke to dig up a key right at the outpost. and vice versa as well, since you can also buy a Ashen Chest Stash voyage.

  • @faceyourdemon I didn't say to have them permanently stored to your session. There could be a chest storage at the outposts, so you would have the exact same mechanic as you do now, but instead of selling them, storing them.

  • @talriaen I get that now the loot starts fresh every time, I just don't get why that is. It takes the fun out in certain times. I'm not saying keep all loot between sessions or store unlimited things, but there could be some help from a bank or something at the outposts where you could store certain items. Plus it's not far fetched to have a bank either... pretty sure there was one in the Monkey Island game xD

PS: Thank you for the Ashen Chest tip.

  • @razzv17 As @FaceYourDemon mentioned, this would be very exploitable. People who are being chased by another ship would get the loot into the bank, that way they can then just switch servers and cash out.

  • @talriaen As long as you make it to the outpost and talk to a npc to store it for you, isn't it exactly the same as going to an outpost and talking to an npc to sell it(as you do now)? It would be the exact same process.

  • @razzv17 Then why not just sell it while you are at the outpost, there is no reason to have an extra step. and it still doesnt answer the problem of being exploited to prevent others from taking your loot, which is a key part of this game.

  • @talriaen Because there are some items that you don't want to sell. Like the Ashen Chest I've just mentioned.

  • @razzv17 There are plenty of ways to get Ashen chests. They are fairly common

    1. Forts
    2. Skeleton Ships
    3. Megolodons
    4. Random Ashen Guardians
    5. Duke's Ashen Chest Stash
  • @talriaen Also I don't get what you mean by exploited. If I went to the outpost and talked to an NPC, then nobody took my loot anyway, regardless if I sell it or store it.

Thanks for the Ashen Chest tips but I didn't have time to look for the key then, so I had to sell it, which made it less fun...

  • @razzv17 When i am talking about being exploited i mean this:
Say you have a lot of loot, but you are now being chased by another ship. If your idea is in the game, what is to stop you from putting the loot into this storage or 'bank' for safe keeping. That way you can then leave the server (and the other crew) and go to a new server and turn in the loot safely? It is effectively cheating.

I understand there are things like Ashen Chests that you would rather open instead of selling, but that is just luck/rng. There are going to be days you find more keys than chests, or more chests than keys. Just sell the extras and go on. You can now buy both items, so there is no reason to hoard them in a bank.

  • @talriaen So let me get this straight:
Having a lot of loot, being chased by a ship, going to an outpost and selling the loot - NO EXPLOIT

Having a lot of loot, being chased by a ship, going to an outpost and storing the loot - EXPLOIT

How? How is the first one not an exploit and the second one is...

  • @razzv17 said in Store stuff for next session:

@faceyourdemon I didn't say to have them permanently stored to your session. There could be a chest storage at the outposts, so you would have the exact same mechanic as you do now, but instead of selling them, storing them.

    Lol its just as bad

  • @faceyourdemon Why? Storing them immediately would mean that you could exploit the feature and just log out whenever you are chased. Having to take them to an outpost would mean that you can't exploit the feature, because you would have to do exactly as you do now when you go to an NPC and sell it. ;)

  • @razzv17 You are taking out a part of the game. Fighting over loot. If you just store it so that you can turn it in without any kind of threat to you, it is cheating. You always have to prepare for the fact that the loot is not yours until you turn it in for gold. But your "idea" would take out ship fighting, seeing as someone could just run to an outpost and store it.

  • @talriaen You're not understanding the process that I'm saying. The process of getting it stored would be identical to the process of it being sold, so that would mean that fighting over the loot would be identical as it is now.

  • @razzv17 Then why have your "storage" system at all? It would be absolutely unnecessary.

  • @razzv17 Here is another way your "System" could be exploited. What would prevent someone from storing a whole bunch of Athena Chests, and then wait until they get Rank 5 Athena Emissary and then cash all of them in at the same time?
Or any other loot for that matter.

  • @talriaen The exploit with the ranks can be very easily controlled through a basic mechanic upon storing or removing from storage. But this is not necessarily the case, it can also be a game feature, you delay your reward in order to be rewarded even more. It's not a bad thing.

As for your question as to why. The reason I mentioned before. Items that you can't use at the moment but want to use next time you play.

  • Your treasure has no value until you cash it in. So until then, you have to see it as worthless. "That's money in the bank!""

I suppose that one could argue that the items in your inventory cold also be saved when you quit the game. But filling up your inventory is free and a pretty quick process.
