Scuttling, and How Ship Respawn Works

  • Trying to pin this 1 down. I scuttled at Sanctuary Outpost, and ended up in the Wilds. Specifically, at Marauder's Arch. I wanted to be in the Ancient Isles. So, I scuttled again and again and again. Every time without fail, I was still in the Wilds. Furthermore, I learned of a pattern...

    1. Maurauder's Arch
    2. Black Water Enclave
    3. Liar's Backbone
    4. Galleon's Grave Outpost

No matter how hard I tried, I always ended up at 1 of these 4 locations, and always in the exact same spots. I would find treasure, hide it nearby, and use it to confirm my location.

This got me thinking. Is 4 the limit? And why was I stuck in the Wilds? Why always these specific locations? Was it because other pirates were in the other regions? Is it because they don't want you cheating the game by teleport travel (which is technically what I was trying to do, BTW, for the Legends of the Sea)? A bit of both? Something else entirely?

I would like for you to experiment with this for yourselves and report back to me your findings.

My questions for you is are you just scuttling at the new locations your ship spawns at, or are you moving from that spot then scuttling? How many times did you do this, is this just coincidence? Are you just trying to find scuttle locations or are you factoring in natural player sinkings?

I've been respawned after a sinking in other locations, but that was due to sinking by player not by scuttling. I remember specifically it was Smugglers Bay, within the bay, on one occasion. I couldn't tell you where we sunk at to begin with.

I did not move from those locations, and I took the mermaid that appeared to the new locations after the ship was scuttled. I saw each location at least 3 or 4x.

I am NOT factoring in being sunk - only scuttling the ship.

Finding the scuttle locations or really anything irrefutably concrete and useable is what I'm looking for. For example, if your ship only appears in specific locations, and you know where those locations are, you can potentially use that information against your enemies when they choose to scuttle. Not trying to be malicious here either; I'm just trying to help the devs find exploitable holes in their own system's mechanics.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised they haven't changed up the kraken now that everyone knows how to avoid it.

  • spawn and scuttle on a golden sands outpost, im betting you'll spawn in ancient

  • It also depends on the number of ships locations. A major of them are on the Wilds, the game will "attempt" to spawn you far from combat but not too far.

  • Love the scientific method here!

  • If anyone can provide an interactive and updatable SoT map showcasing the known spawn locations, as we update our findings, that will be a tremendous visual help.

  • Tried this two years ago when the Devils Roar released. I always seemed to get on my sloop in the Golden Sands and that is a long journey just to start a voyage.
I did not teleport in the Wilds, but I did have the same few islands. Since it did not work the few times I tried, so I never tried it again. I figured it was a lost cause.

  • Repeated the experiment, using a Brigantine, on an Aussie server. Initially spawned at Galleon's Grave. Without raising the anchor, I scuttled repeatedly, and ended up at:

    • Galleons Grave (initial spawn)
    • Sunken Grove
    • Galleons Grave
    • Sunken Grove
    • Galleons Grave
    • Sunken Grove
    • Galleons Grave
    • Sunken Grove
    • Galleons Grave
    • Blind Man's Lagoon!

I spun the ship around and sailed to Sunken Grove in case someone else was there, preventing my spawn there, but did not see another ship.

So... I am not sure what this proves, if anything. :-)

  • @surveyorpete Well, for now, it shows us more islands that ships can spawn at in the Wilds. This makes me wonder - can a ship spawn at ANY island? Even if that turns out to eventually be the case, knowing WHERE the ship spawns at each island can still be useful.
