@waronpants2664 So did you completely miss my opening statement about COD or rainbow 6? lol okay
Is it time to fix the sword-lunge physics exploit yet?
@fllw3rb0y Cause that means something? Obviously SoT isn't cod or rainbow 6. You can tell cause it's not called "CoD" or "Rainbow 6"
I wish I could remember where it has been said, but it has been said by the Rare team many times: This was not intended, but once discovered, they decided it should stay in the game. It suits the game's twin philosophies of "New and Interesting ways" and "Tools; not Rules!"
It's a useful feaure, not only in battle but just getting around. Even when doing simple things like stocking the ship at Ancient Spires (to get to second dock), or at Galleons Grave (to get down from the wreck).
The only people I can imagine not liking this feature would be double-gunners. Did the OP mean to write...
I for one am sick of getting boarded by ninja aqua men that just lung themselves from the beach after we made the effort to carefully creep up on them, pistol and blunderbuss at the ready, using the sun and terrain to get the drop on a crew on land.
There are loading players into cannons, harpoons, rowboats, magic cannon balls — It’s a good time as any to fix it or introduce a new mechanic that helps a get a player where want go faster; in an intended way, even if they are not carrying a sword.
It sounds like a case of "please, take out this sword exploit, so that I can be more successful with my double-gun exploit"!

@d3adst1ck Thank you for the clarity -- it's appreciated!
Did the v2.0.8 fix reduce the exploitable distance players could lunge through the water?
I don't know version number but I remember it being nerfed I might be wrong though
@waronpants2664 you were comparing it to other triple a games, soo that could be LITTERALLY ANY triple a game. sure i brought up cod and rainbow because details matter in those games, they're competeitve every millisecond counts. if it was BOTW they would slap a sticker on it and call it content even if it was unintended. details dont matter as much in some games as others and you're making it seem like this issue actually has any real, tangible effect outside the forums.
@fllw3rb0y There is a lvl of polish that is expected from AAA games. That's what I was comparing it to. Sword launching isn't a bug that would be tolerated by pretty much any other AAA game company(or even most AA or indy game companies). Especially not when it's a live service. When it's a game that doesn't get updated, the exploit has no effect on other player, and it's not something that most players run into; then it's not big deal. Like super jumping in Doom Eternal.
Sword launching is a pretty big part of the game experience now. It covers up some of Rares short comings as far as traversal in this game and that's a problem.
If some where to ask: "So, your game can be very slow when off a ship since you can't jump very high, there is a lot of clipping, and swimming is very slow. Outside of the initial cannon launch, how do you plan to deal with this drastic slowing of the game?"
Rare:"We don't. We just let players exploit a bug and call it good."@dangcafe Jetpack dash is different. It's not a bug and makes sense within the game world. You are dashing to increase your velocity and using the jetpack to maintain the momentum. Jetpacking while stangin still is slowest, walking+jetpack=faster, running+jetpack=faster against, and dashing+jetpack=fastest.
@dangcafe So did I. It's not a bug. Just because something isn't specifically intended by the devs doesn't make it a bug.
@dangcafe .... sword launching is combination of a bug and lazy coding. Blocking while charging, causes a bug which stops movement limitations from being applied to the player. This in turn allows the player to jump and avoid the intended physics interaction which stops the player after the lunge completes.
@waronpants2664 Oh you can do it witout blocking. bit harder but its possible. The sword dash like no mans jetpack dash was not intended. But it was kept because the community liked it
@dangcafe Doing it without blocking is technically not a bug. Just a lack of quality control on the devs part. Sword lunging as people know it, is done by exploiting the block bug.
@waronpants2664 the quality is good enough for people to fall in love with the game, myself included. And this so called block bug is what makes it easier for pirates such as yourself to perform it one cannot really exist without the other otherwise there will be a skill gap i think newer players will find harder to overcome. And end of the day it has been in the game so long it is a staple don't believe me? There is a ancient vid you can find on youtube showing others how to perform the jumping sword dash
@dangcafe That just means you have lower standard lol This game reviews very poorly overall(not because of sword bug) and was quickly dismissed by most people. If you look at reviews of this game, no one ever gets into the details of bugs and such because the game had too many big obvious issues that made it not worth going any further. Sword launch bug isn't the biggest thing for sure, but as this game starts to finally get enough content and features that people will take a closer look, polish issues like sword lunge and terrible Ai will start to become bigger issues.
@waronpants2664 how many users have been online recently?
Now how many upvotes does this thread have? 😁
@waronpants2664
SoT has many, many terrifyingly awful bugs that Rare are, to date, incapable of fixing.
Sword lunge is right at the bottom of that incredibly long list if it's even on their radar. It's also the only decent thing left about the cutlass after the farce we have been left with while they "fix" combat.
@roverandom5158 There are allot of things that are more important. My biggest fear with sword lunge bug is that they might never give the sword the rework it needs or if they do, they force it back onto the sword and it ends up ruining the rework.
Wait. . . you don't have a problem with people being fired out of cannons, but sword lunge too much? That sounds like a personal problem. As for "ninja aqua men"; Make sure you have habits in place for defending your ship. Get on the same server with a friend and practice guarding your ladders, sniping swimmers (flintlock and harpoons), using blusterbombs to knock people off, etc. It's tricky, but familiarity and preparation will go a long way to making your encounters more enjoyable. Cheers
