Fixed wheel mechanic

  • I'm going to attempt to bring a quality of life idea to light that I think everyone would appreciate in the game. Being in the storm has always been very challenging, especially in arena when it just won't seem to go away and give everyone a difficult influence to navigation. I feel like there should be a way to keep the wheel in place to help cope with the storm. Now before you respond saying "The whole point of the storm is to make it harder to sail and navigate" hear me out. What if there was an action provided at the wheel that allowed players to tie down the wheel so that it would stay in place. During this state the wheel cannot be moved by either player or storm so that way the direction of the ship won't be as effected. And would have to be untied before being able to move the wheel around again. This does not break the mechanics in any way as the storm still shifts you off course a bit with all the waves, however this would provide a bit more freedom from having to stay on the wheel as long while in a storm.

What do you guys think? This would help with catching storm fish, keeping a straighter path through the storm and all around more freedom to roam around the ship and tend to the bloody repairs. We already have the mechanic provided with cursed helm balls, so being able to voluntarily lock the wheel in place with rope should also be something a pirate would think of doing naturally if in a storm. Please have an open mind about this. It is realistic and i KNOW everyone would appreciate it if it was put into the game. Cheers everyone.

  • @colonel-pots would love to see that it would help a ton like a simple rope or something nothing special

  • I think it would be interesting for the player to place two wooden planks, one on each side of the wheel, to hold it in place. The action could be similar to fixing something. And to remove it could take the same time. However, I believe that if it's been right in the middle of the storm for some time, the wooden planks could break. What do you think?

Terrible example above, made with cellphone...

  • I think rope would be perfect for this, it would wrap around the stick that is pointed up and go around the wooden fence in front of the wheel there. You should be able to fix the wheel in any position you want, and it would look more proper imo if it was rope. TIE DOWN THE WHEEL! would sound nice as a new text option too.
