Royal Navy

  • Okay Rare, i love the game but like most i want more depth, and you guys seem to only know how to make it wider, so i'm here to help you. You should add a Royal Navy section of the map on the left side, an expansion of the map like you did for the devils roar. this area could include the following suggestions;

    2 new navy outpost (including adding 2 more possible ships on a server)

    A navy fort, so it could be like skeleton forts but with navy guys, and more fortified and organized, so it would be difficult to take it.

    and most importantly it would be awesome if say, a player ship attacked another player ship in that section of the map, and then the ship that attacked gets attacked by a navy ship or two. So this area could be a little safer than just the open seas for people that don't want to have to fight all the time, because the navy ships would help stop people from attacking each other.

    You could expand on this by making it possible to trade with the navy ships which could give you reputation with them.

    you could even add one or two navy ships that go around the entire map that you could trade or fight with, and or you could make the navy ship that's going around the map an event style thing like the skeleton ships in where you go to fight it and it's like a cargo load that's really hard to fight, double decker guns/bailing water, and so on.

    I think you guys at Rare do a great job and i really hope you take this idea into consideration, i think people would have a blast with this huge change to the would. I love playing as a pirate so much and everything that goes with it, i just feel a little like if everyone is a pirate, no one is.

  • The Grand Maritime Union is making its way into the Sea of Thieves... In the meantime, use the admiral cosmetics, and roleplay the Navy yourself. 😉

    Also, would your Navy ship still attack me if I was defending myself from an aggressive crew by hitting them 1st, even though they fired 1st? Hardly seems fair to me. 🤔

  • @major-zyx The problem with the idea of a "safer region" which would only be "safer" based on npc ships defending players who are attacked is that it would actually incentivize attacking ships in that region. For people who do mainly PVP (with PVE as well, but I tend to only do that when there are no ships on the horizon) they want a challenge, and this might provide one. This is why I like fighting alliances, as they can be harder, simply because they outnumber you more than a normal ship and even if they are horrible and uncoordinated sheer numbers can be a pain sometimes. This is also ignoring the fact that the game cannot technically decide who was the aggressor, like Galactic Geek said.

  • Best advice i can give anyone who wants to sail around without trouble, do the shores of gold TTs and just keep shroudbreaker on your ship. You have a little NE section where you will be relatively safe.

    However its not often you get chased by players etc. Its part of the fun.

  • Everything i've seen about the Grand Maritime Union sounds good, but they mostly seem like a new enemy much like the skeletons, maybe a little more difficult but i don't know. With a Royal Navy that i'm suggesting it would be more like a mini sailing outpost, in which you could trade/buy/ and get quests from, or you could try and fight them. They could even give you bounties so you could hunt down other ships that are super aggressive on the server for a massive reward, so it would be like joining their ranks in trying to keep the seas safer.

    I am definitely the kind of pirate that hunts others on the server and i think this kind of change could help give me the combat i desire while also keeping solo players or people that want no conflict a slightly better chance. I don't want a real safe zone such as the lobby for the pvp arena, just a better chance for those that don't want to fight as much. While the area in which Navy ships would come fight you if you attacked someone would be an incentive for challenge it would also be extremely difficult, and even harder to actually sink the player ship you were going after with the Navy ships on you. I've been in a few good fights with other players that only got away because skeleton ships got in the way, and if the navy ships can bail water and be a real formidable enemy, they should make the area a little safer, and still see some awesome battles. for example: if multiple ships were allied together and tried to fight other ships in this area we could see a 3v3 or 3v4 fight of ship to ship combat.

    If anyone has other suggestions in regards to this idea please share, i love the feed back and discussion so far, lets keep it up and have even more fun in sea of thieves.

    Also wouldn't it be cool if you could use the harpoon as a zip line if you grab it with your sword out???
