Stowaways (Dark Souls Invasion)

  • A new way for players to feel more pirate could be to introduce a feature like invading a world in dark souls.

I haven't played Dark Souls but the invasion system seems like a fun way to PvP in a PvPvE world. I think something like this would see more ships actually doing things whereas the pirates or "trolls" as some call them might prefer this quicker option to fufill their bloodlust.

Obviously just an idea but what ways could something like this work in SoT? Would they spawn in people brigs, on their ships or just on random island?

  • This wouldn't really work because in Dark Souls people invade around specific closed areas as opposed to the fairly large and open map of SoT.

Suddenly getting an enemy pirate spawning on your ship doesn't really seem logical... I mean in Dark Souls, when you invade someone, and they are prepared for it, you're often stuck looking around for them and their clever hiding place, or playing prop hunt with them if they have the chameleon spell. xD

The equivalent of that would be joining a regular adventure game, and looking for your target/victim, wherever they might be hiding.

In other words, the game already has what you want... So what exactly would change? Nothing...

    Hence the confusion.

  • @ob9s Yeah I get that.

    @Sweltering-Nick Steady on. XD
I ain't saying a copy & paste a feature from dark souls but merely asking could something similar be added. Perhaps new option for adventure mode for the more PvP inclined player.

You are correct, nothing stops me from just acting like 'An Invader' in adventure mode, quite often I row around looking for unsuspecting pirates and with the rowboat it adds the challenge of 1 life but it is also time consuming and dowright boring for the first hour.

And yes, spawning on another player ship is OP, I agree, I was merely asking

Say theres a voting table on the brig cage to allow random invaders.
The bell rings and the invader spawns in the brig.
The crew has to watch this player and make sure they don't break out.
The invaders goal is whatever they choose but when they die they drop a skull which is sellable.

Ways like this to incentivise piracy and voyages at the same time. I wouldnt expect a game changing idea but something like above could be a small addition for full crews of friends to do when the seas seem quiet.

Just thinking of ways to spice the game up XD

You should! All of Fromsofts games are pretty much masterpieces of game design.

what ways could something like this work in SoT?

This could work as a way to make the reapers flag fulfill it's role. If the Reapers flag essentially worked as "dried fingers"/"delicate string" do and players had a way to "invade" those players servers it could make for much more consistent PvP.

  • @sailorkek And what stops people from taking advantage of this feature to farm infinite amounts of this skull with the help of friends?

  • @waronpants2664 Thanks for the response, yeah I know I should just haven't got round to it hahaha.

@Sweltering-Nick Well whats to stop people from server hopping until they find their friends, not much execpt the fact you dont get to choose which server you invade or which people invade you.

  • @sailorkek So it's completely random, eh? Fair enough...

In that case, i propose we rename the concept to "Stowaway" instead of "Invader". ;3

The lore behind the phenomenon would be that somebody at some point, stowed away on your ship to get some free transport, and the point where you "invade" someone (where an actual live player get's involved), is basically the point where the Stowaway has been discovered and put in the brig.

And that's where your suggestion comes in... keep en eye on the Stowaway until you get to the next port or something... Speaking of which, how long does the invasion last? Like, when does it end, got any specific ideas?

Done, I thought I already had a thread called Stowaway but it's under a different name.

I'm not sure about how long but figured they'd at least be limited to one life or something. Probably only limit the ship to one invader at a time to avoid exploits as you mentioned.

I'm thinking any "reward" dropped by the "invader" would be more profitable for other crews. This way the original crew still can kill them and claim it but if another rival crew were to kill him they would also get rewarded.
The reason for the increase for the rival crews is incentive for the original crew to keep the invader alive as a hostage. Players doing thatcould RP they're keeping him alive from they're old crew.

This second part is flawed mind you, whats stopping the original crew from just getting allied crews to kill them and as you rightly stated in your first comment , I can just try and find friendly people

the game already has what you want
