Despite your personal opinions on the option, If I choose the "controller only" preference in the settings is it guaranteed to match me with controller only players or is there still the possibility to match with keyboard and mouse players? The reason I am asking is because I was in a controller only session yesterday and came across a person typing personalized messages in-game. No, they were not using the chat wheel because, as far as I know, "I am bored... lul" and "plz dont kill me" are not options under any circumstance. Is there a way to type in-game without a keyboard and mouse?
Matchmaking Preferences Question

It is a preference but when numbers are low a server may sometimes need to match you will all player types, you will, however, be prompted in the top left corner with a notification that you are sailing the seas with all players.

there’s an option in settings to assign custom messages to a certain key (i chose right stick). that brings up the virtual keyboard so it’s easier than having the keyboard and mouseI rolled up to a sloop on an island, typed to them that I was friendly and helped them kill skellies. Now I was typing to them but I noticed they were using the generic phrases. Turns out this person was on xbox.
I use controller for game play and I use my keyboard only to type so I do not know if maybe the person you came across is like me who uses controller to pay and keyboard to type. Maybe we still get put into controller lobbies?
@combatxkitty Even if you use the controller on PC you can't get into xbox only sessions and keyboards are completely disabled apart from the virtual one when playing on xbox.
@mc-rossco So then I must been in crossplay. I actually was surprised I was in session with a xboxer, I thought I would only be with fellow pc'ers. I took a break from this game and just got back into it so I wasnt sure how all this new lobby split stuff worked. Back when I was really playing all the time it was when everyone was together.
