The Correct Way to Play

  • Seeing as there's been an influx of posts about things such as ship balance and PvE servers, it should be remembered that mechanics people frequently complain about, for instance losing all your treasure to a galleon where you're a solo player, exist to encourage players to play the game correctly. (Yes, there is such a thing.)

The correct way to play is with at least 2, preferably 4 players, using game chat and microphones, sometimes attacking other players, and accepting loss whenever it comes (excluding script kiddies and bugs, but those are rare.)

It's not that playing alone with no mic, avoiding all conflict and complaining at every loss isn't possible, it's just in doing so, one hurts the game drastically for themselves and mildly for others. Tools have been provided to make playing correctly easy; LFG is excellent for those who's friends are unavailable, and you can join parties on your phone if you don't have a mic. All in all, please play the game correctly, and if you refuse to have more fun, at least don't complain about it.

  • No such thing as "Play correctly"
But there is a fine line between, playing the game as intended, and playing the game to be a codfish.

Playing alone and running into other pirates, speaking out with a bad pirate voice and watching them react. That is how I play.

  • 3 players on a Brigantine is perfectly acceptable as well, and is the preferred option for many.

Just because the original ships at launch were designed for 2 & 4 players doesn't mean that playing with 3 isn't "playing the game correctly".

Your preferred method of play is not the only one :?

  • The wrong way to play is telling someone who plays solo, no mic, and avoids combat that they're playing wrong.

I have a fantastic time. It would not be improved by joining a crew.

  • the correct way to playing the game is induvidual which means whatever suits the player is the way to play it

  • @wilbymagicbear Using game chat? Yeah right, try being a female in game chat.

3 players is good. It's the not the best, but it's certainly good enough. And yeah, it's not the only way to play, it's the corerct way.

Alright, you got a point there.

I was the exact same way, until one time I was dunked on by a galleon and thought I'd try LFG, and here we are.

No, this attitude of the 'play it your way' is a recent development, inspired by non-emergent sandboxes like more recent Far Crys, Dishonoreds (much as I love Dishonored), and most other AAAs. But 'Play it your way' is at best going to split developers into making several middling games instead of 1 great one, and at worst lead to many players playing in 'their' less fun (incorrect) way.

Games should pick one playstyle, focus entirely on that, and tell players that this is how it's gonna be. Sea of Thieves almost did that, but faltered just before execution by adding the sloop, and now here we are.

  • predictable responses here... the same people that will say 'there is no right way to play this game' will be the first people to point out the errors a poster made when complaining about this and that on this very forum.
while there may be a few different ways to successfully deal with various issues, there are definitely WRONG tactics to use, just as there are obviously RIGHT tactics to employ. the crews/players that adopt these habits into their gameplay are far more successful than those that dont. they play the game 'the right way'. thats just life.

  • The galleon is by a million miles the most horrific ship in the game.

  • There is no right or wrong way to play.
    Its a sandbox afterall.
A make your own adventure kind of adventure.

However the most important thing people need to know is that although you can do whatever you want, so can other players.

So if a pirate sinks your ship or gives you a hard time, thats still part of the experience. You can avoid them (its not even hard solo) or defeat them (still not always hard solo)

The only issue i find is when people have objections to how others play the game.
If i wanna go murder lots of players for no reason, i paid my money same as everyone else i can go and do that and i wouldnt even feel guilty.

They have every right to play the game the way they want.
    PVE servers wouldnt work.
They have been confirmed to never happen anyways.

Freedom to do what you want in this game is very much what piracy is. The romanticized idea of a bunch of cutt throats, living the life and sailing without rules.

Well that sounds boring. I dont know about you but I play games to have fun. Me and my friend, we are notorious for playing games how we want and the adventures we have are hilarious. We will continue playing our way.

  • Having a game thats focused on one playstyle is boring.
Hence why i dont play any of those kinda games.

Games that let you make the adventure, those are the true gems on gaming.

so instead we should cradle to your way of "fun"
just because you find other people preffered play choices boring? now that is a quote on quote BORE if people want to do pve let them this "influx" of pve server posts are often made by the same people banned in the past or people who barley played for an hour thats the majority of the "influx"

  • @wilbymagicbear

The correct way to play, have fun. Do what is needed in the game to ensure you have fun and uphold the code.

    Nothing more, nothing less...

    We are free roaming pirates.

You gotta catch me to dunk on me tho. If you manage to ambush me, I applaud you. It doesn't happen often. As much as I complain about the monthly updates concentrating traffic, I RARELY have the pvp issues others have. 🤷🏽‍♀️🧜🏽‍♀️💜

  • There isn’t any correct way to play, but there is the best way to play.

  • @baronbrr There is a correct way to play - and the answer to that is to play however you want. 😏

  • @galactic-geek there you go.
