Ghost Ships, Kraken. Megalodon.

  • I feel like recently I have been getting attacked non stop by random spawns of ghosts ships, megaladons, and krakens. Especually when I am at Skull Forts. Have they updated the game making it spawn a lit more frequently. I mnow some people will go hours with nothing, then it will hit all at once. But I'm getting it everytime I join the server, even withcloser and open crews. It has made it more difficult to level up or complete voyages.

As far as I'm aware, the only thing the community is privy to regarding the spawn rate of PVE threats is that the Kraken cannot spawn if a fort/fleet icon is in the sky. EDIT: @ClosingHare208 beat me to it.

We don't really know what determines the spawn rate of the megalodon or an emergent skeleton ship.

Based on my experience (and therefore, conjecture), they seem to be tied to how many nautical miles you've traveled during your current session- they're more likely to spawn if you travel really far. They can't spawn in certain areas (such as the shores of gold), so you're pretty much guaranteed to get attacked by one as you're leaving those areas (you accrue a lot of nautical miles, but they aren't allowed to spawn until you leave). On reflection, this could also be tied to the amount of time you've spent in your session.

Rare's servers can only handle so many PVE events at once, so the server has to pick a 'victim' when it spawns a PVE threat. This means that if there's fewer ships in the server, there's an increased probability that your ship will be randomly selected for a little visit from a meg/skelly ship.
