Hey all, so I was in arena earlier, and using my best piratey terms in text chat and I noticed of all things. Boy o (no space obviously it wont let me post it without it) was bleeped out. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around why such an innocuous term would be censored, does it have an odd meaning other places than the states?
Weird Censorship
i think its based on a microsoft library, and they had millions of $ and man-hours to scour reams of data to compile and collate every single term (and any 1337 derivatives) that could possibly offend even the most thin-skinned minority member of any villiage with a population larger than 10k people.
i bet there are tens of thousands of words on that list.As @SatanicNemesis stated, several gamertags are banned. Va c a being one of them.
I have run across several seemingly innocuous words that are verboten.
I tried to name one of my pets, Colonel S a n d e r s (without the spaces) and the censorship caught it.The Sea of Thieves profanity filter is probably one of the most unnecessarily strict filters I’ve ever seen in any video game / game community. I think they really need to lighten this up.
does it have an odd meaning other places than the states?
I think that word is probably censored as it can be use as a patronising or deregotary term for a male from Wales.
@withmyapologies
And with this, the question is solved, I appreciate you all on this endeavor of learning and other weird censored words.Still remember when I found out that the word we used for the small creek on our uncle's property was considered a swear word in some places.
Language be crazy, yo.
