Just to be clear. I know the difference between hackers and skilled players. This is the 2nd time I have run across players with more than good aim. I am talking about people sniping you through your ship, through waves, a good distance away from you. Every single shot. I think the only time they "missed" is the shot didn't register. I reported them, their account is suspect as well. One was a fresh account, the others have been playing for a month. Is there any way we can get some decent Anti Cheat around here Rare?
Hackers on the seas.
@deadly-tuna-bag i definently agree that cheating in this game does exist while it doesn't happen often i still think rare should invest in an anti cheat
@jollyolsteamed right. I agree the cheating is few and far between at least on adventure. I've seen it more often in arena. Including ships shooting in front of them lol. Nothings better than ships with cannons that shoot in front of them lol.
@deadly-tuna-bag I do laugh when I shoot out a cannon on my ship and it glitches and send me flying fowards. I swear you could board someone if you get lucky enough hahah
While noting that you can shoot through both waves and ships with handheld guns without any use of cheats, it is a fairly small problem. It sounds like the ones you encountered were true cheaters, due to the account and performance consistencies they had, so the best you can do is report them and move on. There is an anti-cheat, but it's not perfect - none are, that's why the report system has a section for it. Note that when combating hackers, if you stay away from their effective abilities (such as keeping battles with aimbot hackers to ship-to-ship combat and using maneuverability to keep out of their cannon arcs), they tend to be very bad and to be very sore losers, so you can fight back. I've seen it happen to cheaters and exploiters alike, as well as some of the less polite 'good' players.
@ultmateragnarok yeah I reported them. We essentially didn't engage them and ran. Any fight resulted in instant sniping us off the cannons. Ended up seeing their stupid keg in the crowd nest and took out their masts. They took forever to get that mast up, so we got away sold stuff and scuttled. But man that was gross. We were getting consistently sniped like 7 ships away.
Yeah, sounds like they were indeed bad players with a crutch. If you could've gotten some good CCB or direct cannon hits on their crew and killed them with the following barrage it might've worked, but running is sadly all that can be done sometimes.
I talk about it here, I think it’s a precaution to be taken before the cheaters take the game first.
link textI have not seen any what I would call hackers on this game in a long time but it's pretty easy for someone to hack get banned and experience no real financial loss they can start a new Xbox account sign up for the gamepass deal for £1 and even if discovered and hacked that's all they will lose rather then the price if the game itself and then they can rinse and repeat aslong as they don't care about there rank or cosmetics
@justincase2004 me and my crew ar good. We rarely get outplayed. That being said... we have mostly been playing since day 1. When something is sketch, you know it. They were hitting shots in between reloading. They never took time to aim their shots. It was a reload and immediately a shot was taken with 100 percent accuracy. And again. The oldest account they had was a month old. It's not like they were veterans. Is likely a new/sock account to use hacks on SoT. Many of these accounts had games but only had hours in SoT.
@kedo9380 No. Someone using hacks is pretty obvious. I'm not claiming that this is some sort of outbreak. In fact, as far as adventure goes, this is only the 2nd time since this game has launched that I can confirm that people are cheating. There have been plenty of people so good that it might be a little suspect, but I cant confirm so I don't bother making the accusation. These are people using some sort of tracker.
Sounds like a hack to me. All you can do is report and wait for the ban hammer. I'm sure there are regular ban waves that go out silently. I think it's rare to encounter but certainly possible so reporting these players when you do encounter suspicious game play is important. They'll be able to determine if that player was hacking or not.
@deadly-tuna-bag Ye agree but we should strongly separate a good players from hackers, which some time can made some trouble but in 80% hackers are just good gamer which know how to wallbang ect. SoT is not that bad on fight with cheats just look at Unknowncheats forum how many people are getting banned for using a Esp software ect. Sometimes just turn on youtube and look for arena montage there are no limits in any combat situation like scans through 2 floors on gally or air shoots.
@justincase2004 said in Hackers on the seas.:
They might of just been good. What proof do you have. Where they wall banging you
Perhaps if you read his post, you might find your answer. ;)
You can shoot through waves, it’s almost no different than shooting through water when you’re under it.
I’ve shot people on my moving sloop (and their ship is moving too) from a fair distance both with the EoR and Flintlock, and gotten direct hits, even killed a few pirates. All about predicting how the bullet will move and such.
However I can agree that some things can be suspicious. I wouldnt rule anything out. And in response to this thread, the best you can do is get video evidence (yes video evidence, unfortunately, to help support your claims) and report them.
