Someone named [mod edit] refused to sink my ship and would repeatedly kill me if I spawn back in I was forced to leave the server to join a new one because this person wanted to be rude and generally just bm me because I am new to the game. I shouldn't have to leave the server to continue playing because someone wants to harass me.
Manual way to sink ship after death
As has already been mentioned, the 'scuttle ship' option in the 'my crew' section of the menus will immediately open up every hole on your ship and sink it. Additionally, I would recommend finding a crew with one of the various LFG systems - Discord servers, the official XBox system, even this forums has one. A group will allow you all to discover features and mechanics more quickly, or an experienced player can show you some of them. Your post will also probably be moderated at some point since they don't like name-shaming people for any reason. However, denying others of gameplay for any reason is worthy of a report, so you are free to do so.
@buffbrigitte976 There is a features to sink your ship manually, open the menu, go to crew, and vote to scuttle ship. Your crewmates will have to do it too, if you have any.
