True Pirate Appearance Potion!

    Sigh... The nicest way I can say it is that my disappointment is, immeasurable. The one thing that I've waited for almost 2 years now for them to implement, and that honestly should have been there since the beginning, and they couldn't do it properly. The ability to change your pirates' appearance.

    Seriously RARE, what do you have against character creation menus? Is it some sort of taboo mechanic over there? Instead of allowing me to actually change/create my pirate the way I want, your going to force me to go back to that awful character lottery system.. and even make me pay for it? I spent almost 3 days in that stupid thing when the game launched trying to get a pirate I wanted (never got her btw) before giving up and just deciding on one so I could get in and play. Now you're saying if I want to change my current pirate (which I do) I can pay to 'try again'!?

    Please RARE, I implore you, beg you even, let me create my pirate the way I want them to be. I would be more than happy to pay 10 times the ancient coin that this current potion cost for a potion that would allow me to actually create MY pirate.. a True Pirate Appearance Change Potion. I really can't see why allowing us to create our pirates would hurt this game in any way.. if anything I only see it improving the experience and bringing more players to the game who decided not to get into it because they didn't like the (IPG) or Infamous Pirate Generator as I call it. After all, what's the point in playing a game that only has cosmetics as rewards if I don't even like the way my pirate looks to begin with?

    If you're worried about Pirates not being unique by allowing us to create our own.. then please play any other game that has a character creation menu and I think you'll realize your worries are unnecessary. We're plenty capable of making our own unique characters so long as you give us the options and ability to do so. And don't worry you IPG enthusiasts, I'm not saying the IPG needs removed/replaced. Everything currently in place can stay as it is, just add the option to allow those of us who don't want to use the IPG the ability to create/re-create our pirate as we want them to be.

    I personally can not and will not speak for Rare, but my theory is that it would lead to "same face syndrome" in which everyone has a similar base outside of people who spend four-plus hours in the Character Select Screen. I've personally noticed this in other MMOs with any level of character creation in it; there's always the same base face and features, just a change in the hair, facial hair, and eye color.

    @kafeleskleros I see what you're saying and having played several MMO's myself I can understand what you're referring to. I can also agree that a portion of people will certainly feel overwhelmed or just to lazy to use a creation menu and decide to use the 'base' character model and just make a few minor changes. That's also the reason that most creation menus include a randomize button. It's just disappointing and a bit frustrating that SoT didn't even give the option between the two and forced players to choose a random pirate. And to be honest I don't think that you can avoid the "same face syndrome" even if you force players to choose characters randomly. I've come across plenty of pirates that share the same face & body types as mine or my friends pirates because even the IPG is just pulling from a pool of preset options for the random rolls.
