Pve/private servers

  • To start things off I’m fully aware that sea of thieves is a pirate game and I fully understand the appeal to pvp
But what some fail to realize is that it’s not appealing to all players. Some just like the thought of sailing with friends and fighting skeletons and maybe the occasional kraken.
It’s especially frustrating when your trying to make gold. I’m personally tired of grinding just to have my ship kegged and lose hours of work.
I feel the addition of pve servers wouldn’t divide the player base as those who want to calmly sail could do so where players who are looking for more action could play pvp. Another issue are the loading screens, especially on xbox. If for some reason your crew is killed your ship can sink before you even have the chance to save it, adding to the frustration. To sum up my point I feel like pve servers would be a good addition to the game and would be a welcome change to some pirates.

  • If your fully aware this be a pirate game. Then you should be aware that is how pirates do things. Sink and steal.
Remove that and it just random encounters with npc anyone can kill, random pirate encounters increases the chance of that being easy or harder.

Not all play sessions will you encounter bad pirates.

Anyways. This topic been drawn upon so many times, search the forums you see it had, it’s done been discussed by both parties and has been said “no” too by rare I believe.

  • Grinding??? Matey there is more loot out on these shores then there ever could be. This game without pvp is a complete snooze-fest.

  • Allow me to say my piece(s of eight) on this:

PvE/Private servers meant to exclusively grind content would make the game dull. Consider that the most threatening thing is other sailors. A good sailor can 1v4 a Galleon, take all their loot, and cash it in, which means that on the seas, anything you have is at risk of being taken from you, and this is a good thing.

    Now, why is that good?

    1. This is a pirate game with PvP. If the biggest threat is other sailors and you are a sailor yourself, it presents the opportunity for growth and honing your skills. Without PvP you would never improve besides the linear and rather predictable PvE content.
    2. PvP and looting other ships allows you to advance faster because you get the same reward for a fraction of the time in exchange for a bigger risk.
    3. The constant threat of PvP keeps you on your toes to be prepared for anything, which in turns hones your decision-making both in-combat and out-of-combat.
    4. PvP provides a way to spice things up outside of the aforementioned predictable PvE content. What's unpredictable? Sailors. What's very unpredictable? Good and bad sailors. Learning how to react to them helps you stay alive longer and win more fights.

Ask anyone who grinds only PvE content and avoids PvP like a plague: they either do not play the game any longer or do not enjoy the long grind.

In the seas, you will sink, you will lose, you will be robbed, and you will be beaten. It's all a matter of fixing the mast and setting sail once more into the tides.

In the end, if you are absolutely paranoid about losing progress on your treasure, then keep a weather eye out for sails on the horizon and head to an Outpost to cash in. That's perfectly your choice... but don't expect to stand a fighting chance against sailor you won't take a stand against.

  • I would love private servers. Unfortunately never gonna happen. GTA has private lobbies. I don't know why SOT doesn't. My biggest issue with the PvP and the "constant threat" is just that. I can't just play this game if I want to chill and fish. Because I would have to worry about people killing me and sinking me. Thats real pirate. Kill a fisherman and force him to skuttle his ship. This game has so much potential. Unfortunately the player base ruins it. Why dont they have more game modes for people who just want to fight. The arena is a joke. Add deathmatch and stuff like that. Add a battle royale. I won't play it. But it will take alot of the people that just want to kill. If you like fighting and killing and adventure then this game is perfect for you. If you're a kind hearted person looking for adventure and violence isn't your go to greeting. Then you should probably find a new game. This is where I'm at. I can't enjoy the tall tales, even tried 3 times today in 3 different lobbies to get a chest of rage quest done. Got sank 3 different ways. They dont make it easy for sloops.

  • @outeatamerica They don't make it easy for sloops for a reason. It's listed as the hardest difficulty. It's not Rare's fault that you want to play by yourself. The game shouldn't get easier because you want strictly pve. This game was made for Pve and Pvp to combine together. The premise is to always keep an eye out for pirates as you are a pirate too! You can cause just as much havoc as they can, and give those crews chasing a run for their money!

Yes, you can fish in this game, but that doesn't make you a fisherman. That makes you a pirate that like to fish! I play this game mostly solo and I absolutely love it. I'm always watching for ships and only do Tall Tales with friends. You have cannons on your ship too, it's about time you fight back.

  • @scallywagmango if you can't beat em join em. I'll just become a PvP addict and go after every ship I see. Tired of wasting time supplying the ship and looting just to be chased. They should change the game title to "call of thieves". just take out the ships and the water. Put us all on a map that consistently gets smaller and smaller. Then name the last one alive as pirate legend. That one pirate legend gets to turn in the chest of rage and be the victor.

  • @scallywagmango and it literally is rares fault I am forced to play by myself. After I downloaded this game on my Xbox and pc for some reason I can't get invites or send invites for sea of thieves. I can only play with people via the in game matchmaking. Wich is laughable.

  • @outeatamerica That's actually not Rare's fault - that is a known issue with Xbox servers that they... well, aren't the best, I'll put it kindly.

As for finding a crewmate, you're welcome to join me any time.

  • @kafeleskleros dog I can't join people! Straight up it doesn't give me the option to join or invite friends. Its not like that with any other game I own/play. I can only join other sailors through the fame matchmaking. And that does not work.

  • @outeatamerica On PC, try the Xbox Companion App and choosing a friend while your game is closed by going to their profile and selecting the button under "Joinable" that appears - that typically works for me.

Can't say for other platforms, though; I only own a PC.

  • @outeatamerica omg youre attempt at irony is laughable. the game has always been marketed as PVPVE not everyone wants to have a gorefest. some of us just want to have fun you know being a pirate, youŕe also acting like every server is pvp oriented. many servers have a mix of friendly and pvp players. at times the pendulum swings one way more and then the other. right now were in a pvp phase, eventually the pvp players move to something else and the pve players comeback populations of both demographics rise and fall based off the population of the other. we dont need pve servers which would completely destroy the natural balance here.

  • Not true. GTA has private lobbies and bad sport lobbies. Most successful game ever made. Rare could take some pointers from them. At least rockstar doesn't try and pretend their game is balanced and fair.

  • @outeatamerica I'm afraid thinking GTA is fair and balanced and the most successful game ever made are both false facts, but it seems we have to agree to disagree about our views on this game, fellow sailor.

  • @kafeleskleros gta has made more money then any other game ever made. Games are made to make money. Gta has done this the best. Its a fact. Not an opinion. You don't want PvE lobbies because you enjoy fighting and sinking people that want nothing to do with battle. It wouldent upset the balance of the game. If anything it would make it better. If you saw someone in your lobby you know that they are experienced and ready for a fight. Gta has private lobbies so you can chill and have random fun with your friends without the threat of someone ruining your experience. Yea they added jets and tanks. But they give you an option to get away from it all. Eventually the game community itself is gonna be the downfall. Im about to start becoming a huge troll on the seas myself. Everyone is defending it. Must be fun. I'll just load my sloop up with fire bombs and go set fire and ram every ship I see. With the sole intention of sinking them and making them lose their loot. I suggest everyone play this way.

  • @outeatamerica That's completely your prerogative and right on the seas to attack and loot.

I also think you're confusing "troll" with "thief". Trolls would actively keep your ship up and loot all your resources before forcing you to Scuttle because they spawn-vortex you ( yes, this has happened to me before ). "Thief" will sink your vessel to loot you. PvPers can be either, but in my experience ( 1.5+ years sailing the seas ), 97% of people are PvPers and not trolls. Maybe not the cleanest-of-mouth and maybe not respectful, but they aren't trolls.

  • @kafeleskleros by your definition I have been "trolled" 3 times in the past week. I have been talking to duke and been shot in the back. Why can you be killed talking to vendors? Like I said. Im just about to quit the game. A couple more sessions trying to complete the "the storyteller" tall tale. I can't get more than halfway done without someone messing with me.

  • @outeatamerica It's so strange that you hate pvp so much when it is expected of the game. If you act friendly nowadays, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Also in a post you recently made, you said you enjoy going solo, so which is it my friend? If there is an issue with your matchmaking send it into support. If you can't handle what's expected in this game, then it probably isn't for you. Going solo isn't broken like you claim. There are many ways to defend yourself, you just have to always have an eye out for mermaids and nearby ships. This game can be fun solo, but it probably isn't the game mode for you. It's called Sea of Thieves for a reason. We be pirates matey, and I be after ye loot!

Also, stealing supplies is not trolling

  • @scallywagmango said in Pve/private servers:

Also, stealing supplies is not trolling

I agree there - I mainly meant spawn-vortexing until you're forced to Scuttle when there's no tactical reason ( no loot/resources to take ) for doing so.

  • @scallywagmango If you act friendly nowadays, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Then this is why I'm quitting. I'm too friendly. I don't like fighting. If you come up on me on an island and start shooting me 9 times out of 10 I'll just leave the lobby. Life sucks enough. Don't need my video games to kick me while I'm down too. Solo lobbies would give people like me a chance to enjoy the game. While people like you can stay in public lobbies together. Unfortunately does not look like its gonna happen. I played alot of hours. Sold alot of chests. Made a few friends. Made more enemies. Farewell sea of thieves. I'll take my friendliness somewhere else.

  • @KafeleSkleros I agree with that, met a crew that spawn-killed our open crew because they were bored haha. Unfortunately my crew didn't know how to scuttle...

  • @outeatamerica I think your best option is a PvE game. The issue isn't Rare. It seems that games that have other players to face off against isn't for you. Fighting can be fun, even if you get bested. Trust me, I lost so many times, but never gave up.

  • Yea thats great if you have all the time in the world. But at a certain point it becomes insanity. I jave not been able to complete the legendary storyteller tall tale. I have tried multiple times. Everytime I have failed its been because somebody sunk me. The first time a brig sunk me. I tried to run against the wind. Of course after following me and running out of map I finally turned to fight. First cannon ball knocks me off the boat. Needless to say i lost that fight. Another time I was in the cave putting in the gems. Come out of the cave and my boat is gone. Had to leave the quest item and spawn on my ship. Only to fail the quest on my way back to the island because I "lost quest item" and yet another time I was doing one of the stories when a galleon came and started shooting me. I never stood a chance for that one. The best part was they sunk my ship and took the quest item I needed. It ment nothing to them. Wasn't even worth gold. They just took it. And doing the tall tales through the matchmaking is a joke. I have been a solo player since this game launched. And its all been building to now. I'm not some noon thats just mad because ive sunk a few times. I have had my fair share of wild battles. Ive sunk ships by myself, ive bested 4 man crews. Am I proud of it? No. Its just covered over by all the times ive lost. Honestly the thing I'm most pround of is that I've caught almost 1000 fish. The funny thing is almost HALF those fish were stolen from me. People are just greedy. And I think that is my biggest issue with this game. There are no consequences for playing dirty. In fact it rewards you. This game shows how self centered people are when they are sitting behind a desk all alone. Sea of thieves has taught me that most gamers only care about themselves.

  • @outeatamerica bro, um i dont want you to quit the game. pvp can actually be really fun if all parties involved are reasonable about it. i really just think you should find a group of people willing to play with you. the game is always fun with friends! just a couple days ago me and a galleon cre got our ship sunk by the combined attacks of a skelle galleon and another crew, we were bailing and bailing but we still sunk. we loaded all our loot up and rowed to golden sands lol. we played music on the way and made jokes. when we got there we saw a sloop getting ready to unload all its loot so we waited on the island in the bushes for them to come, we killed the guy unloading then the guy on the ship we unloaded their loot into our trusty rowboat and we set them on fire lol. they managed to put it out then a kracken attacked them. WE LAUGHED OUR BRAINS OUT. i yelled too valhalla!!! at them. THEY SURVIVED. and they came back for vengence lol. thats what the game is about to me and i want you to have those cool experiences too. the game is all around fun if you dont let the inconviences get you down. i actually used to do alot of what you did solo slooping and stuff. i never really had as much fun as i had with a coopreative galleon or brig. in the end playing with a fun crew that stick with you thick and thin is what makes the game so fun! its not about the loot but the friendships and fun we have along the way!!!

  • If you constantly get kegged while on an island that must mean you're totally unaware about incoming ships, have a person be a lookout and if you see a ship slightly approaching run if you aren't skilled in combat.

Also creating a PvE server would 100% separate the player base (I wouldn't want to be in one, hence the separation) and it also wouldn't solve your problem because people would just log into PvE servers for the sake of griefing. They can't shoot? They will ram your ship and sink it. Can't sink your ship? They will steal your treasure and drop it in the seas to despawn. To be fair PvE servers would become a feeding ground to griefers whereas normal servers you have a chance of playing with people that are actually interested in the pirate experience rather than just being there for the sake of killing. Want to get rid of the usual 'Getting kegged and losing everything?' Post ideas that implement PvP into the world some other way to draw these players out to these events instead. I usually find myself sailing to sink people from the lack of new content. As soon as I'm done with the Crews of Rage I will find myself back into Adventure (I finished everything possible in Arena) and doing mundane things like GH, OoS, MA. So whenever I see someone in the distance I give chase because of the thrill.

  • Yea this is why I'm gonna leave. Its just not the game for me. I'll come back if the ever make invite only servers. Most the time I play grand theft auto I play in a invite only session. I work alot and I get very little time to game in comparison. I appreciate how games like gta give me the option to play alone and just have fun messing around in a lobby. I would love to be able to get in a private session in sea of thieves. That would be amazing. You could do so many fun things. You could role play as a fisherman for hours. You could get 100 kegs on your ship and blow them up. You could happily do whatever you wanted without the threat of other players. I don't care if you can't even do quests. I just want to relax on the sea and sail. There is no reason it shouldent be in the game. Just because you wouldent use it. I don't play in the arena. Doesnt mean I think it shouldent be in the game

  • @outeatamerica "If you're a kind hearted person" -OutEatAmerica

You're just trying to play the victim card here. Just because people attack and sink people doesn't mean they're some sort of "evil". Also since you hate PvP of course you're going to get bamboozled trying to get the Chest of Rage on release date since everyone is going for it... also since you're having trouble with a sloop why not find crewmates for a galleon? Rare and Xbox are giving you 2 excellent ways to find people (Discord, Xbox LFG)

Make some online buddies to sail with and learn combat. For once instead of going to do PvE voyages just go do some PvP (With no treasure on board) for the sake of practice.

  • @outeatamerica How long have you been talking to Duke lol? xD

Never in my entire life have I seen someone waiting at Duke to kill unfortunate talking pirates rofl. Maybe they were Athena camping and you just had bad luck?

  • Also, stealing supplies is not trolling

    Amen.

  • I downloaded sea of thieves on my pc and connected it to my Xbox. Ever since then I can't invite people to my game. Can't get invites. I can't even join friends games. Tried for hours to fix it. Nothing has worked. I can only sail with other people through the game matchmaking and that's a joke. I just don't understand why I can't join a private server and sail around . GTA does this. I'll come back to sea of thieves on the rare occasion this happens. Until then I'm done with it. It has all the achievements and missions of a single player game and it makes it as hard as it can for you to do them. Do all tall tales 5 times by myself? I'd rather blow my dad.

  • @outeatamerica I have young kids and work full time. I also do not have time for long voyages. Arena was supposed to help that void, but if it takes a long time to start, then it's already not worth it.
I just log in to adventure play until my time is done and get off. Loot and rep are not worth anything so don't think you need them. They just get you to legend which is not worth it at all.

That said, if you want a pve game with hardly any threats check out astroneer. Explore planets, use resources to craft and expand your base. The only threats are plants. Entertaining game, but it does not get the heart rate up.

  • @outeatamerica

Then this is why I'm quitting. I'm too friendly. I don't like fighting.

Think of it as defending instead. Also don't let the game get to you, remember to put it down when it invokes you and pick it back up after you're feeling better and try again with the intent of getting better. Stay strong buddy.

  • @outeatamerica Rofl xD

I downloaded sea of thieves on my pc and connected it to my Xbox. Ever since then I can't invite people to my game. Can't get invites. I can't even join friends games. Tried for hours to fix it. Instead of joining friends, why don't they join you...?

  • @d-jaguar thanks feller. I'll look into that game for sure. I know I am just complaining and I hate to sound like a broken record. Ive spent alot of hours being chased by people and getting in fights I never wanted anything to do with. I'm sad to leave because i love the core gameplay so much. I Love the art and animation style. I Love the story line and the music. I just don't have the time or patience for PvP. Call me a loser or a coward I really don't care. Its a video game, not real life. I shouldent feel stressed out or have to make huge tactical war maneuvers while I'm sitting on my couch.

  • @capt-soul-beard they can't join me. It's only for sea of thieves. All my other games are fine.
