Solo sloop

  • Honestly about to uninstall the game. I only get an hour or so to play a day. In that time I rarely am able to get any real work done. I have no problem with getting sunk and robbed. But the constant trolling is ruining this game for me. I can not get through one play session without people following me across the map to steal my stuff. Why is the boat made for solo players the slowest boat in the game? It is laughable how fast a brig can catch up to you. There is no reason I should be trolled everytime I go to play the game. Really need PvE lobby options. This is a great game. I am not gonna put anymore work into giving someone else all my loot. And you have got to love the people that Alliance with you, then turn around and stab you in the back. How about some consequences for pirates that spend all there time stealing and trolling people. Like bad sport lobbies. Just because its called sea of thieves doesn't mean you need to fight every person you see. Pretty fine line between toxic and being a "thief"

  • Sail into the wind to lose them. Other ships are slower in the wind.

  • @outeatamerica sloop isn't made for solo its made for 2 people hence the reason you can have two people on board the sloop is easier to solo than a brig and gally but that doesn't mean its meant to be solo'd and solo sailing in general is harder than doing it two man

  • @ve111a
Have you actually tried this and ever succeeded? Yes you can gain some distance. But they still follow. And you can only sail so far. I have rarely been able to escape a ship this way. If they decide they want to take you then they will. Then all your left to do is try and fight (good luck fighting any ship solo)
When I decide to fight I usually get knocked into water by a stray cannon ball. No reason they should be matchmaking solo players with full crews. It just sets you up for failure. I spend more time watching this game and reading about it then I actually play it. There are so many little problems that need to be fixed. I don't know why the glorify streamers like Pace when he is so toxic and really bad for the community. Just teaches people to be rude and play for themselves. Would be great if I could get into a server where people want to level up and enjoy the game. I don't understand why they don't add server browsers. Give people the option to play how they want.

  • @jollyolsteamed I will probably just stop playing soon. Going solo is the only way I enjoy the game, that enjoyment is all but gone now. I don't like attacking people, I don't like the PvP. The fact that it is unavoidable and becoming the meta probably just means this will turn into another call of duty.

  • @outeatamerica pvp is part of the game its not a meta you've just admitted to not enjoying the game so maybe the game isn't for you and thats alright and if you choose the path to solo thats your issue you choose a challenge and you got it simple as that i don't see why rare should change that because you find pvp boring its part of the game maybe you should ask rare to add real content for veterans to do because rare has been growing a big lazy beard in that part maybe people wouldn't be so bored and chase after people so much if they had things to do

  • Game is nowhere near Call of Duty and typically as someone who solo sloops just to get voyage commendations done I rarely have to get into a fight with somebody so either you're just really unlucky or it's not as bad as you're making it. And, no to the PvE servers.

  • Define trolling for me. My definition must be different than yours.

Anyways, 1-2 hours. That fine, just cash out every dig and you be fine. If someone follows, out play them.
Always have a rowboat and set ship straight. Most players never notice the slow moving rowboat. “Most” with loot due to the waves. To focused on the ship.

So many ways you can go about. But if your leaving, sorry to sea...you go. Game not for everyone.

  • @navillicious Agreed. I solo most of the time and, while I do encounter the hunters, it isn't nearly as often as posts here make is seem. I sail for hours alone and never have an encounter with another ship. I see several and don't have a problem. I don't understand.

  • @outeatamerica As long as you know ways to escape like how sloop is faster against wind and not to keep all your loot always sell at outposts if you go past them if you are a solo sloop player. You will be fine most of the time.

  • why do you even play solo? its so much easier to play with one other person for a bit. to find friends i just play open crew until i find someone cool ill add them and whenever me and them are on we play together. it really is quite fun.

  • @outeatamerica I agree with you, most people on this game are mostly in it to kill and troll you rather than do their own thing. Pve would help the people who don't like the pvp aspect of the game. I mean there is the arena which is strictly pvp, why not something for the other people on the game? Plus the spawning of the ship if you actually sink them is right next to you, and they instantly come back.

  • @desertedyogurt arena is not pvp, its condensed. And going after other pirates is not trolling its pvp, a supported and encouraged playstyle.

  • @desertedyogurt This is a PvPvE game. Why should people who like PvP be restricted to one game type? You are meant to encounter other pirates who are most likely not friendly. There is a lack of content that keeps the active community engaged, so Pvp is the default choice for fun. Nothing wrong with that.

  • @outeatamerica Solo sloop is always the harder difficulty. It can be done though. I did most of my Pirate Legend journey solo. You just have to outwit/outsail your opponents and learn to play dirty. Are they chasing you? Set the ship straight and jump off with an explosive barrel in your hands. Board 'em and BOOM! The sloop is a dangerous ship if sailed correctly. You say it's not fair for sloops to be put against other crews. I say it's not fair that other crews have to deal with my solo sloop :D

  • I just think that it is ridiculous how they try and make it like everyone is on an even playing field. I can't get messages or game invites on my Xbox since connecting to windows 10. So I'm pretty much forced to play solo. I have been playing most everyday for the past 2 months. Most days I get off because I have been boarded and I am being killed over and over again. Every play session I usually spend a good 30 minutes gathering supplies in the beginning. Then I go quest. Yea alot of times I can get away with seeing no ships. These are my favorite times. But more often than not I see ships. And when big ships see a sloop 9 times out of 10 they will go for it. Just today I had a galleon roll up on me. I started to run. They offered me an allience. I took it. So I went back to the island I was doing my mission. 3 of the players board my ship and before I can do anything they kill me and take all my fish. Sea of thieves right. I have had way more loot stolen than I jave turner in. The matchmaking is broken. Anytime I match make I am lagging so bad I can't even stay on the boat. Even if I can get lucky and play with somebody that has my play style. I guess I do have really bad luck. But I'm not gonna play this game if I have to turn in all my loot after every island. That is stupid. Dont even get me started on the tall tales. I don't know how many times ibe been on the back of my boat screaming through the loudspeaker to another ship "I'm just doing tall tales, please leave me alone" thats a joke. Then you get sunk and you lose the quest item. I gave up doing those awhile ago. There is a boatload of content in this game. Less than 5% of players have done the tall tales all the way. So saying there isn't enough content is kinda redundant

  • this isn't even a good game for PvP. The combat is so broken in So many ways. Yet they keep adding more stuff to encourage fighting. Don't fix the double gun exploit, make the sword worse, add fire bombs and harpoons. I honestly wish this game had a story mode or a PvE lobby. I hate PvP. Thats the only reason I bought sea of thieves in the first place. I'm sick of all the games where you just run and shoot. For me that's what its turning into. You either run or fight. I'll just go back to assassins creed black flag. For real just tired of all the fighting. Why can't there be a place on the map where I can fish and cook in peace??? Why do i have to be in danger of being jumped everywhere I am. I was browsing dukes shop 2 days ago and some guy comes and shoots me in the back. Like seriously?

  • @outeatamerica

Hi there! Fellow solo Slooper here. I wanted to mention not to give up on it. Not just yet! I would at least like to give you a few tips for the seas.

    1. Try to hide your ship near islands. By that, I mean steer your ship so that the shorter mast of the Sloop is concealed by the island's form when looking from usual angles of approach (e.g., hide on the North side of Smuggler's Bay).
    2. When you park, raise sails all the way and also your anchor. It takes far less time to lower sails to get moving than it does to raise the anchor.
    3. Try to assume every other ship - I mean everyone - will attempt to sink/kill/loot you. Alliances are fragile and can actually just be ways for other ships to keep tabs on your ship's location to later loot you.
    4. Learn to defend the ship from boarders - I personally use a Cutlass/Pistol combo, but the Blunderbuss is king of defending the ship as when aiming down sights, it can one-shot-kill another sailor at close range.
    5. Always remember to be stocked up - this is an obvious one, but it can't be said enough that you should have a lot of cannonballs, wood, and food on hand. At your spawning island, I aim to have no less than 65 cannonballs, 30 wood, and all the food I can get on my ship before beginning, and I loot resources at every chance on every island.

I have a lot more tips if you wish, but don't give up in it yet! I'm a primarily solo Slooper that is currently 44 MA-42 GH-41 OS reputation, and that's after I reset my data once. I've sunk four-man pre-made Pirate Legend crews and consistently can sink two and three-man crews.

In the end, solo Slooping is doable, but it's a battle. You're almost always out-gunned, but it's not how many times the sails go down, but how many times you put them down yourself.

  • @kafeleskleros I keep trying everyday. I do get stuff done. I should be pirate legend in a couple weeks at the pace I've held. It is just so annoying to feel like you are being chased all the time. I really do love this game. I hate that PvP is such a big part of it. If there was a game like sea of thieves that was PvE I would play it over this 100%

  • @outeatamerica PvE-only would destroy the game's fun and make the game go from tense and potentially fun to a slog and grind.

And, I'm sorry, but I don't think I know of a single sailor who has made it to Pirate Legend within two weeks solo Slooping, or even in a four-man crew for that matter. Reputation 40-50 takes longer than the entire 1-40 span does put together - the game is designed to where getting Pirate Legend is a grind and an achievement of dedication.

If you can get Pirate Legend inside of two weeks, then I honestly applaud you! You probably set a record. But real talk, I understand the frustration you have, but don't use that frustration to quit; use it to fuel the pyre and fight back against the crews that attack you. Don't be toxic or disrespectful, but instead use the chance to hone your PvP skills. If you die, ask yourself "How did I die? Could I have prevented it? How do I do the thing to prevent it?" and come back again with that knowledge.

Eventually, you can bring Legends to their knees with that knowledge.

    Serious question.

If you were in your PvE server and you sunk to a kraken or skeleton ship and lost your loot. Would you ask for all AI threats to be removed too?

Considering how easy the PvE threats are, they'd have to make them harder for a PvE only mode, so this would increase your chance of failure.
If the end result is the same, why does the game need to change?

Or, do you simply just want 'easy' mode forever?

  • @outeatamerica on a sloop you dont need 30 minutes of supplies. fill your pockets twice and check all barrels at the outpost once (for ccb and firebombs). Then just go about your day.

You can gather more once your out sailing.

  • I have been playing the game since launch. I should be pirate legend in a couple more weeks. You misunderstood. I have sunk ships by myself before. Pit an experienced sloop vs an experienced galleon. The galleon wins. I have had 4 times where ive had a kraken a meg and a skelly ship attack me. All 4 times I sank. It sucked. I was mad. But thats life. I have been trolled too many times I guess. The amount of times I've skuttled with no loot on board just to get out of a crew killing me over and over is too much to count. I have had way more negative experiences with people in this game than positive. Give people the protection of the internet and a gun and 99% act like lawless trolls.

  • "consequence for PIRATE that spend all there time STEALING. . ." Hmmm... so u don't want pirates who spend their time stealing? Not sure u even know the line between being toxic and being a "thief" as u have stated. In fact, where exactly is it that u draw the line? For many this line can be very thin between the 2. It seems ur topic is borderline contradictory, I must admit it has me a bit confused. The fact u say the sloop is the slowest ship in the sea just shows how inexperienced u still are at the game. Then again the fact u haven't been in the community researching and learning about the game shows this as well, sailor. I can tell from reading g ur topic ur just dying to bend the game to ur own desires. Ur in the minority on this one, sorry, lots of people like the hybrid pvpve. If u want an easier mode join a galleon or a brigantine. If u want to play by urself then ur putting urself at a disadvantage on your own volition. The seas are not fair nor was it ever stated as such. Sloop is hard mode, galleon is easy, pros and cons to all ships, now go and pick ur poison, ill be here if u need some tips, but the antidote won't be administered unless u do it urself.

  • @outeatamerica Without assuming the worst of humanity in a similar vein, that's a problem with the Pirate Code (Code of Conduct for SoT). In every PvP game, especially one that has a focus on PvP to steal loot from others, emotions will run high, and what is the difference between genuine PvP and tactful looting and toxicity and trolling?

The fact is that it is such a thin line you can't tell. If someone attacks you before you've set sail and they know that you haven't left the Outpost, I would call that toxic even though there's multiple logical and strategic reasons to do it (securing their own loot is a good example).

If you get focused just to have a bad time, then I would close the game, breathe for a half hour, get some water, stretch, what-have-you, then log back into a different server.

  • @outeatamerica said in Solo sloop:

All 4 times I sank. It sucked. I was mad. But thats life.

So.....when it's players that sink you, surely, "that's life"?

Unless you're somehow saying it's fine to lose to AI but not to other players? I don't see the difference (or logic in this) as the end result is the same.
I don't think the game is really the problem, I believe it's your outlook on the game that's causing your problems I'm afraid.

  • GTA has bad sport lobbies for people that spend all their time killing other players. They made an effort to separate the people that just want to kill eachother. Foreal you are all right tho. It seems this is the way the game is. I'm just going to stop playing. I'm just tired of PvP and I guess I wanted sea of thieves to be a game I could play when I was tired of playing overwatch or apex. At the end of the day its no different. Sure its got cool ships and sailing. For me thats all I want. Call it easy mode, call it PvE, call it a storyline. Not sure where all the good single player games went. If anyone knows of a single player game like sea of thieves let me know. I've played black flag. Great game. The new assassins creed was really good too

  • I’m solo sloop player my self. You see it as a problem seeing other ships, I see it as a challenge and additional loot incoming. Instead of running I chase them, instead of complaining I learn and steal. It’s harder for solo player and that makes it more exciting and don’t give you room to make mistakes, but it’s rewarding. If you have few hours to play a day. Just use some of these days for practicing PvP. After sometime you will get better and then there won’t be need for the PvE server, heck maybe you won’t do voyages but will be going around robing and slaying. Or just find a crew and don’t solo sloop if it’s too hard for you. And there is multiple topics about solo snooping and PvP advices.

(good luck fighting any ship solo)

I've 1v2 as a Solo Sloop vs Duo Sloop. I've also 1v3 as a Solo Sloop vs a fully manned Briggy. Just gotta get good really. Most pirates are pretty bad and easy to deal with in direct conflict. The only real difficulty is trying to juggle your responsibilities, since you always needs to go back to your ship to repair it or defend it if one of them is trying to sneak onto it.

  • Just gonna stop playing. I obviously want a game that sea of thieves can't be. I don't like PvP. I don't like fighting other ships. Thanks for helping me realize I just need to find another game.

  • @outeatamerica First of sloops are a slower ship IRL and here because of sails and the capacity to harness the wind is way less then a brig or galleon. both of which have way larger sails and more as well. A Xebec is one of the faster styled galleon/brigs depending on which one you look at and they were known for being quick ships. A galleon or even a man o war can easily outrun a sloop due mainly to the amount of wind available. I've had several occurrences much like your in a solo sloop, but i've also taken out way larger ships and megs in solo as well by just playing smart. set traps, get creative it's like playing a pvp server in any survival game at that point.

  • Soloing isn't so bad.

Until the game crashes because soloing is not allowed and how dare you defy our vision and avoid other players.

  • It's funny how mad people get when you scuttle your ship. I know said you've done this. I had a guy cuss me out for scuttling because he couldn't attack my son and I anymore. Also there are times when I just don't fight back. It's pretty boring to fight someone who just ignores you and keeps on fishing. I always get a little chuckle, because they probably think they really accomplished something.

  • @outeatamerica said in Solo sloop:

I honestly wish this game had a story mode or a PvE lobby. I hate PvP. Thats the only reason I bought sea of thieves in the first place. I'm sick of all the games where you just run and shoot.

So you knowingly bought a game that did not have what you wanted, complained that it does't have what you want and then get mad that other players are doing what the game intended? Huh, imagine that.

  • Rowboats are a god send when getting chased. OP is not wrong that when you are going into wind sooner or later you will run out of map.

With rowboats as soon as I see that I am being chased and can tell these guys wont give up easy. I will Fill rowboat and set ship on a straight course. I check for close outpost or island on map to row to and detach once I pass some rocks or whatever so their vision is obscured as I row away.

This trick has never failed me. Give it a try. Feels pretty good to make it to outpost as they follow your ghost ship.
