Nice..Change Appearence...Yes! ohhh nooo......Why you do that!

  • People kept saying we would never have a way to change character appearance.....Guess they were wrong like they always are when it comes to game changes.

I don't mind supporting the game with the Emporium but something like this should be free.

Things like Character appearance are a core feature of the game and many people when they first start a game are like quick lets GO! Not knowing once you start that character that is it! Most games have multiple save slots also. But not SoT.

Its like lets cash in on our poor game mechanics and charge them for a character appearance change. Really low act imo.

  • The only really low thing is the price that it costs to murdere your unique player identity. The cost is seriously undervalued.

  • How much does it cost ?

  • @sdmittensyt Your Pirate is your story. I can’t imagine changing my pirate’s appearance. Of course, I didn’t fall prey to the get in quick mindset. I have six pirates and spent half hour to forty five minutes choosing each one to fit what I wanted to do with them. If it were free, pirates, themselves, would just become another cosmetic. That would be sad.

  • @sdmittensyt it's 149 ancient coins, depending on what ancient coin offer you bought, it's between 1 and 2 Euro...come on, that's nothing

  • @sdmittensyt others had written that they would love to change their appearance and be willing to pay. Not all players want to change or are willing to pay, but they already have a demand for it. Easy money for Rare.

Things like Character appearance are a core feature of the game ...

Things like not changing your character appearance were a core feature of the game.

Obviously, Rare doesn't want you to change your pirate as easily as you can change clothes. Putting it in the Emporium at least gives you the opportunity to change but also helps to demonstrate the importance of that choice.

  • @sdmittensyt The existence of the pirate appearance potion is already a concession that goes against the philosophy that the devs have about your character being a part of the story being told.

That honestly is more of a compromise than they should have had to give. If you're now going to complain or insult their business practices, you're not treating their vision for the game with much respect are you?

I'd suggest acting with some class, and being grateful that it's in the game at all, and on top of that for a much lower price point than what you'd normally expect to change something that's intended to be permenant.

  • It dont matter what you look like it aint gonna stop you getting sunk and robbed

  • Imo should've been way more like 10€ or something.

Can't wait to see a huge increase in stick figures and swoleroids who look like they skipped leg day for years. So ppl can imitate their favorite strimmer or to gain a slight advantage in tucking. I'm gonna miss all the whales of the seas and the ugly bilge rats. Good bye uniqueness.

  • @sdmittensyt

I'm gonna say pretty much the same thing I said in another thread about this...

I think the intention of the paywall is to limit the amount of times a player rerolls and probably think very hard about whether they want to do it or not. When it costs real money, you're much less inclined to want to do it often, or even do it at all.

Throughout the game's lifespan, Rare have seemed very reluctant about the whole idea of letting players re-roll their character. Even though they ultimately ended up saying yes and doing it, I think their intention was always that we would pick a character and that character we picked would be who you are in the world of Sea of Thieves.

Pirate re-roll should not be taken lightly, and it should absolutely cost you. Blowing through the character selection screen is no excuse. Not taking the character selection seriously and just picking a meme pirate is not an excuse. Nobody should be entitled to a freebie for these things...

Extra skin slots are a no from me for the same reason... Your character model should not be readily interchangeable at the drop of a hat.

    So what's my personal verdict?

Character rerolls should be treated like an absolute last resort for a player who just absolutely hates the character they picked. It should not be another regularly customizable feature.

Locking it behind a pay wall is the perfect implementation of this feature, as it deters the player from treating this like just another customization option....

  • A long time ago, I used to think that I would love to change my pirate if I could. But then, the more I played, the more used to my pirate I got and the more memories I had with her from game clips and screenshots, I changed my mind. Now that the possibility to change her is here, I'll never be using it. I'm so used to her and have been playing her for 23 months now. I can't imagine looking at a stranger on my screen when I play SoT now lol. She's as much a part of the game to me as the sea and the skeleton ships are. I'm keeping her forever. 👍😎

I do think it's very cheap to change the pirates now though. I have friends on Xbox Live that change their gamertag once or twice a week, and have been doing so for the past year, and that's $10 per change. It doesn't seem to bother them at all lol. I actually expected it to be the equivalent of about $5 at least, if not $10, to change your pirate. But I think this was how they balanced the argument from players that they should be given at least the first reroll for free. And while it's only 149 Ancient Coins to reroll your pirate, we don't know if it will always stay that way. It may be 149 AC for the first month, but in the next (or future) updates, who knows? Maybe it will go up once everyone has had the chance to do at least one initial change for very cheap.

  • Remember how hard everyone was talking that they're so desperate that they'd literally be willing to pay to change their character without deleting?

Here we are. I guess Rare called some people's bluff. In the end though they made it the cheapest thing possible. Spend the 2 bucks and quit complaining

  • Great way to make money, good on the staff. There's a demand, why not place a price? Revenue keeps the game going along with us getting new content. Plus it's super cheap. I hope they add multiple character slots next. I rushed to PL and regret it, but heck I don't want to lose some of my rare cosmetics so I won't delete my character.. really only reason why I keep old bootstrap bill and his elongated torso

  • @icymethodman lol i deleted my first pirate cause he was too skinny i wanted myself a thicc monster. and i got one!
