shooting two shoulder fired weapons quickly that yield 80 to 90 percent damage (per shot) while bunny hopping around our ships is broken. and rare should be embarrassed on how far this meta has progressed.
while sword vortexing is real.. at least it gives out a reasonable damage distribution.
the sword is mindlessly spammed this patch because rare released an incomplete rework of the sword, which broke sword lunging.I agree that the blunderbuss is way too much spammed. plus most double gunners run with blundy/sniper so I wouldn't complain about it, if ur a double gunner.
I disagree with cannons. it takes a special type of skill to fire cannons, while dealing with waves, oncoming cannon fire, etc
the threats aren't for u hacking, the threats are for u exploiting. alot of successful double gunners use the Sprint reset and or double x spam, which in itself is an exploit, that rare appears to be incapable of fixing. this evidence can be best displayed with them saying they fixed the exploit last year around this time but it still occurs to this date
If I wanted challenge double-gunners;
- I would add a dot to my monitor.
- I would create a keyboard macro to sprint while switching weapons (which is the exploit - not exactly attuned to skill).
- I would become a narcissist hell bent on trolling and bashing people on the internet that I don't know...
Double-gunning isn't the issue. Exploiting the game to allow you to switch weapons and fire instantly is the issue. Most if not all competitive shooters have a downtime while switching weapons.
Double-gunning before was BANG BANG from two weapons in sequence. Rare tried to fix that and someone discovered that running while changing weapons will result in the same thing Rare tried to fix.
So don't come here with your high horse trying to endorse nonsense...
Good grief, LOL. There was a time that knowing how to use the cutlass and when to use it was actually more skilled than using guns. For those of us that bought this game because we envisioned a swash buckling pirate game, it was amazing. Then double gunning and people that want this game to be a first person shooter game happened. And then Rare started playing with the cutlass for the purpose of "balancing", which sadly caused major imbalances.
Double gunning is an exploit. And quite frankly requires little to no skill. For those of us that want it removed, we still envision a swash buckling pirate game. Not a first person shooter game. There are plenty of first person shooter games out there, and this was never intended to be one of them.
Rare needs to fix the cutlass once and for all, and stop making things worse.
As for your complaint about players that can spam the button, those of us that knew how to use the cutlass correctly, knew how to counter this. Without the use of double gunning. Sadly, too many people believe that double gunning is a skill, which it is not.
This post seems more like a troll post than someone wanting an honest discussion about the game and ways to improve it, so I am with @WeakDexx and think that @Deckhands should review this thread and possible shut it down.
@nofears-fun but all pirate movies combat scenes have pirates bunny hopping around the ship with two shoulder fired weapons... /sarcasm
rares in action speaks alot.. hopefully blazing sails and or skull and bones do it right. so we can move on if rare doesn't resolve this mess.

In the hands of a skilled swordsman (like yours truly), it can dominate firearm-using pirates one-on-one. Why? Because with firearms, you need line of sight; with the cutlass, you don't.

@treefittymonsta Not to speak for Geek. But I have seen him in action. He is really good and dancing around others while using his cutlass. The other pirates are not able to get a "line of sight" on him because he can keep moving and stay in their blind spot while attacking them. At least I assume this is what he means....
@treefittymonsta Unlike a firearm's shot, which goes to a very specific point, a sword's slash covers an area in a wide arc, and hits anything within that swing. So, if I'm moving diagonally past you, I can still hit you even though I've technically moved behind you. A firearm can't do that because with them, you always have to be in front of me. Add to that the fact that I can hit more than 1 target at the same time, don't have to reload, can recover before you can chomp food (much less pull it out), can dodge away or even through you, and can block other swords - the sword wins out on pure versatility alone.
@galactic-geek gotcha. I've shot a blunder buss and killed someone beside me before. it has a large cone. I've seen streamers kill people with blundy when the character was behind them.
I attribute this to server lag and or hit reg. but blundy is a cone of fire as a firearm.
@treefittymonsta Yes, it's a cone, but unless your opponent is not only front and center, but point-blank as well, you're not likely to kill them unless they're already severely hurt. And yes, a lot of the scenarios you described probably were lag, hit reg, etc. It should be obvious that you can't kill someone with a blunderbuss if they're behind you unless you turn around 1st. Furthermore, if you don't kill them, the blunder blunders by knocking them back, making a follow-up shot even harder to kill them with.
The real problem is not double gun, but noobs that use macro to shoot twice in a row in a split second and kill instantly, something that doesn't depend on skill, but on the configuration and abuse of a game bug.

I disagree. double gunning in general is the issue, whether u insta switch or normal switch the strategy is inherently broken. the ability to switch between shoulder fired weapons which deal 80 to 90 percent damage is broken. you shouldn't be able to deal that much damage in a few seconds as a single avatar, and it is broken.

Double Gun is only a viable strategy when the enemy has a good aim and when the player he is against does not know how to avoid him. There are 10 shots against your 5 + infinite sword. Just defend your ammo box and the double gun is no longer effective against you.

yes the problem is that guns can do the amount of a damage in one shot that can be a accomplished with 5 sword swipes. I'm sorry that is broken.

I don't think it's broken, just shoot too, if you only use the sword it is your choice.

and our opinions differ which is fine.
I prefer a pirate game which has combat revolve around actual pirate movies and books. in no book I ever read did combat like double gunning occur (maybe double pistols), if rare thinks that bunny hopping while wielding two shoulder fired guns is fine. then I'll move on,. to a developer that can implement well defined combat mechanics that match the genre.
imo cursed cannonballs should be removed as well.
Bunny hopping is a problem, it should be removed with a simple stamina mechanic.
And double gun is not mentioned in books and movies for a simple reason: At that time it took more than 1 minute to reload the gun. There were pirates who carried several weapons around the body, like BlackBeard, and I exemplify this in my post here in this link.
@targasbr agree about the bunny hopping.
maybe if they made it to where u had to reload ur gun every time u switched. and u only had 5 shots shared between the weapons would help the current broken meta.
Rare once tried to get the guns to be recharged at a price, but it didn't work out very well. For the other idea, I think you should take a look in this post here, there is a similar example.
@targasbr yah I don't think rare has a clue. I'm ready for them to get some competition, maybe they'll come out with a solution quicker with some competition.
it's been over a year, with them even stating that double gun meta is an exploit. and nothing has been fixed.

@targasbr I disagree. there are things wrong with double gunning shoulder fired weapons. I would be fine with double pistols, due to the lower damage the pistol yields. but two weapons which wield 80 to 90 percent damage per shot is broken.
maybe a pistol shot is equal to 45 % health.
or maybe rare just needs to higher an exterior combat consultant to clear this mess.

It's really not... Just get better aim. Bunny hopping is useless against a player with good aim. Adding a stamina bar to jumping, and possibly sprinting, will just lower the skill ceiling and nothing more. Which, I gladly will disagree with and thumbs down in an instant as good aim can counter basic mechanics. One would need good position and a good prediction skill in order to dodge a player with good aim, which I want to stay with no limits. Putting chains on those skills will just make things easier for the aggressor, and the game is already pretty easy as it is.

So you want them to remove skeletons, krakens, and many other features as well? Cursed cannonballs fits very well with the fantasy pirate theme, just like skeletons and krakens. They are fantasy elements that can fit with the pirate theme.
Also, please remember that this is a game, not a book or movie. Finding a game with a balanced combat system that you seem to be wanting is gonna be nearly impossible because melee combat is hard to balance in a game with guns. You need melee to be strong enough to have a reason to use it over guns, but without making it OP, and if it is balanced, then guns will still technically be better due to range.
In reality, I don't think it's truly is possible to make the sword useful in true PvP combat without it being OP or without making gun combat terrible.
I never said that I have a problem with killing players who use the technique, I can kill without much effort, most are just newbies who are not guaranteed in the aim or strategy. Jumping all the time is not very difficult either, nor is it new. The biggest problem here is that it makes battles quite tedious and predictable, rather than epic battles where the winner is the best, not the one who jumps the most.

also, if hit reg and server latency were fixed in the game then bunny hopping wouldn't be much of a issue. u could aim and kill someone but right now the hit box lag behinds the character which is why bunny hopping is such a viable tactic. because people think they're aiming for u while the server shows ur character bouncing all over the place.
