The fish bowl adventure

  • Imagine vast seas. Now look at SoT. It kind of feels like playing inside of the fish tank. A little changes here and there, but in the end it's the same aquarium. What makes adventure the adventure is exploration. There isn't much exploration in the game.

The map size is to be blamed for that. Current size would be fine if the world was randomly generated every server reboot, but for the fixed world SoT is, it's too small.

I expected a new sea every 6-12 months to keep the game fresh. We got the Devil's Roar - which was the only real addition. Then the Shores of Gold that doesn't count much considering it's just a tale. And lastly the Maiden Voyage that's completely secluded.

Do you think it's enough? I do not.

  • @archaell I agree. The size of the map is too small. I think it should have a lot more islands to explore.

  • @archaell

I think the problem is that they're hitting the wall as far as technical feasibility goes. While getting some new activities might be doable, I think expanding the map is going to have to wait until the Series X takes over completely.

  • I agree. I have a feeling we're not seeing constant map updates (expansions) due to technical limitations. Larger maps, would require more ships to populate so the didn't feel empty, which is going to stress the servers even more than they currently are.
While I wish it was a thing, I don't know if we'll see it until maybe a SoT 2 or something on the next gen.

Note: Why the heck can't I tag you Hombre? It says your name is a restricted word lol.

  • @Archaell I definitely agree, I thought Tall Tales would do this in a way but it didn't. All I've ever wanted is a Pirates Of The Caribbean style game, big ships, big crews, curses, myths, legends, big islands where you have to trek for days ect.

  • I agree. I know every nook and cranny of every island by heart. I actually enjoyed playing the new "Maiden Voyage" mode. I mean, it was boring. But it was at least something new to explore.

  • this would only work if their servers could hold more players.
