A fix to the anchor

  • The anchor has things that are weird to it. I think you should see the chain underwater. Also if you shouldn’t have to raise it all the way to get moving. Once you raise it a little above the ground your ship should move if you have sails down.

If you are in shallow water you shouldn’t need to drop your anchor all the way down.

If you are in a rush to leave you would be able to shoot the chain to break the anchor and leave but the only way to fix the anchor is to repair it at an outpost or something.

Idk how repairing anchor would work but the devs could find something.

    Thanks

  • Having the anchor and its chain be visible was something the developers at Rare had considered prior to release, but sadly, it proved to be far too technically challenging for them to implement successfully.

Besides have you seen the aesthetics of these ships? We have capstans with nothing underneath, outside windows with no accessible interior rooms, cannon portholes that are invisible inside, and so on. These ships look nice, but they were never truly meant to be realistically designed. They were made to support gameplay, balance, and that pirate fantasy "feel" - in that regard, at least, I think Rare succeeded in spades.

  • @Galactic-Geek no offense but I have never seen you say anything critical to rare. It seems you are sucking up to them in hope of a cool role or something. Just saying. I just want to know if you speak how you feel or how you want other to feel about you. Didn’t mean to sound rude, just want to know if I can trust the words you speak. Thanks

  • @justincase2004 i have found @Galactic-Geek critical at points where he feels he needs to be, but thats just my interpretation.

On your points, the chain being visible was indeed something that rare envisioned but wasn’t able to implement in a realistic/believable and consistent level.

With your anchor dropping and raising point while the realism aspect of me says yes this is true i can also see why it isn’t implemented, this would nullify the crippling effect of the anchor being dropped and it would need quite a bit of calculation to check when or where the anchor is actually hitting the ground, this would add to the already pretty big impact ships have on memory and cpu usage especially server side and i personally dont think that performance impact is worth the slight bit of realism it would add.

Also irl unless the anchor chain is locked at a certain point the full chain would still drop out, it is not a automated ground sensing brake that is applied to the chain and also it would always need more chain then the exact direct line downwards to the seabottom (since the anchor gets more resistance when submerged and will be dragged at an angle from a moving ship.

  • All the mechanics in game are to support the gameplay.
They help provide the illusion of sailing in the age of sail, but is still a game with rules.
This is why we can "set sails to stupid" and gain speed, when this defies logic.

It is how we know were not playing a hardcore simulator.

  • @justincase2004

I would like a visual aspect to the anchor under water when down. Be it not actually affecting its behavior, but just simply seeing a chain go down, maybe with an anchor at the bottom, as I think the information provided would be very useful and just generally a nice immersive detail.

Yet I do not believe that the drop duration should adjust based on game balance reason, the fact that we can anchor anywhere so physical object behavior would be funky and just simply consistent behavior is better for gameplay in my opinion.

I do not agree with raising a little will get you moving at all. The whole point of it is to buy time, have the people stuck in place for a while and the commitment is required to get moving again whether self inflicted or by your opponents.

  • @justincase2004 I always try to be 3 things: honest, open-minded, and logical.

Most of my contributions come from helping others as an Xbox Live Community Ambassador and United Enforcer. I do send in the occasional report if I find something that works me.

Do I want to be recognized? Of course! I don't know many that wouldn't want such an opportunity. I don't even really care what for, as long as it's in a positive light. Maybe for most forum posts or something, I dunno.

To become a legendary representation in-game? That would be to die for! Because, well, most are dead or gone, of course, but I digress.

true I still am waiting for my Easter egg but I digress

  • @barnabas-seadog set sails to stupid I doubt was by design, but just based on the fact that the speed is made an absolute and speed is based on how much the wind hits the sails. Thankfully the bellowing mechanic only works with wind from behind.
