More Toxic Double Gunning

  • Can't stress enough how broke this is. Doesn't matter if you're on PC or Xbox, my honest opinion is that you're toxic if you dg.

FIX: DG itself is not toxic, I meant to direct it towards the people exploiting for the quick double shot.

I don't appreciate being shot off my ship, then shot & killed in mid-air by a hotmic dg pirate telling me to get a life, quit the game, & suck a ****.
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(This is my experience from the disrespectful hotmic, not the reason why I made this post. It just added to the issue)

A good amount of the player base outside of these forums is absolutely putrid sometimes I'm sorry. Please provide some balance to this so I can at least somewhat defend myself against immature adults &/or teens like this.

    Calm down and say Arrrrrr.

    But yes, i support that.

DG is worse than anything else and guns in general are to op compared to cutlass.

I say make cutlass mandatory and make guns need to load when drawn, the moment you sprint, take it another tool or thw cutlass the gun is unloaded and need to be loaded again when you draw it.

    To increase ttk
    To have more piratish fights
To have tactics, movement and positioning skill over fingeracrobatics and quickscope aiming skills.

    SoT is not a FPShooter!!!!

  • @bugaboo-bill
    Arrrrr

A little bit of fishing should calm me down!

  • @bugaboo-bill not a mandatory cutlass, make a slower reload and swap time for weapons and add a stamina bar, that decreases every time you jump, sprint or swing your cutlass meaning mindless bhopping is nearly impossible, also nerf the damage of the blunderbuss and make eye of reach way less forgiving in terms of accuracy

  • @klemelement

Double gun is not toxic, some players are toxic.

Unfortunately Sea of Thieves doesn't have a lot of content for those who play from the beginning, everything is done very quickly or is just uninteresting. What's left? Do what the game promises: act like a pirate, that is, kill, steal, etc.

It is humanly impossible to have a community without toxic players, we will always have the guy who is not happy to kill and steal, but must also offend. Of course, I'm not talking about "offenses" like "noob", "you play really bad", or similar things, but things I can't post here on the forum, like "" or "**". (i love asterisks)

What the person does in the game against other ship's players is not being toxic, what the person says in the microphone, yes, this is toxic.

Either way, you can simply record your game and report players if you think they are being toxic.

  • @simplelyricc

They try to do this for 2 years now, at minimum 1 year when dging became popular by streamers.
And they seem to be unable to fix animation breaking exploits.

I agree with you if they can do it.
Swap time need to be a lot higher than actually.

DG without to exploit it is way too powerfull imho.

Why not have to reload when you draw a gun?

    I played War of Rights.
It's a Team Shooter of the Succesion War.
You have the old flintlock guns and only 1 shot and you can apply a Bajonette to charge.
The reload time for your 1 shot is - keep calm - 30s.
The apply of the Bajonett is nearly equal.

The game ja immersive like hell and it's tactics and positioning, knowing what and when.

I dont say i want this for SoT.
But to me fights become 1000% more interesting and fun if they go into that direction instead of giving us another fortnite combat system.

Same for games like Chivalry or Mordhau. The combat is slow and diverse, it's about timing, positioning and knowing what weapon against what other weapon etc...

That is skilled combat, not smashing Buttons or having good reaction times and good aim.

    Good aim is for shooters.
Imho SoT is not a shooter game.
At least i dont want it to become one regarding combat.

Ship combat is fine, it's exactly that, about forseeing, tactics, good maneuver Management, it's also about good aim, but slow.

Tbh i'd dislike a stamina bar.
My suggestion against bunnyhopping is: make 3 hops free, the 4th exhaust you and locks you 2s

  • People like to throw the word toxic around a lot these days don't they? When you overuse a term, it tends to lose its meaning.

  • Double gunning is a bit harder to do than it used to be. But Rare definitely haven't fixed it yet.

People double-gunning you in mid-air are using aimbots and macros. Report them! I do all the time and they get banned. Sometimes Microsoft even freezes their whole MS account. (you have to get video for that though!)

  • @bugaboo-bill I think rare doesn't know how to fix it, which is apparent with double gunning still being an issue even though they said they 'fixed' it last year. but rare are afraid to make sword mandatory due to the backlash from streamers.

  • @mr-dragon-raaar
    @treefittymonsta

I also dont know why we need this sort of fast, op and exploitable gunplay.
If i think about ship combat, what is very much fun, challenging, tactical and well paced, i just wish the same for pirate fights.
Well paced, not pew pew dead in a second, but way more like hit and run, take cover, throw something, shoot, have some cutlass duelling...
I thibk it's just bad to be able to oneshot or kill each other that fast in general.
    Ship combat is cool.
CCb's and Fire has enriched it and the way how luck and time of playing im a server (sessionbased) of having ccb's and fire bombs is important pleases me too.

I hope Rare can make melee and gun fights more appealing, more slow, but again more fluid, more tactical and it need more than 2s to kill someone.
Not saying there are no longer lasting fights, but this PvP DG meta and the way it is used is for sure not that much fun compared to what is possible in my opinion.

  • @bugaboo-bill imo cursed cannonballs should be removed from the game. I dislike them but I use them.

  • @bugaboo-bill people who think the DG is legit are the people who make TDM montages in arena. They take joy thinking they are good "wallbanging" "locking down a boat" spawn camping because in there eyes they mastered combat. But the difference between them and me is once I realize a team was new in arena id leave the boat. The double gun maybe it takes skill to learn a exploit sure. But is it fair for someone to camp a ship that's new for no reason only so they get a good video. Honestly no.

If the sword combat was made so counters and what not were a thing rather then bang bang your dead with guns the game would be way better.

I personally prefer ship battles. Main reason I love arena. It takes skill to shoot a cannon from way out and hit first shot.

  • @targasbr

Rare said they won't have anything in-game that provides a player advantage wether you're a veteran or just starting.

DG is breaking that, most new players have no clue how to DG, anyone who knows how has a player advantage.

  • I think Rare should add helpful stats to guns & swords.
When you open the weapon box & hover over your choice it should let you know the weapon's positives & negatives.
    Examples

    Cutlass:

    • swings trigger up to a 3 hit combo.

    • missing an enemy ends swing combo.

    • Avg health damage per swing.
      (Maybe using %)

    • Ups & downs of sword heavy attacks.

    Flintlock:

    • fastest reload speed & handling.

    • bullet velocity is slower than Eye of Reach, bullets drop faster.

    • Avg health damage per shot in %

I'm sure you get the point. Players should have access to simple gun stats that may actually change the outcome of a fight.

Blunder knocks back enemies, new players don't know that till they experiment. This would be a good tip to teach beginner sloop players & would allow more confidence in cqb.

    • YES I know blundy needs a nerf :)

We need a whole combat overhaul up in Sea of Thieves!

  • um what happened to yall cause ivw been playing for like 8 weeks now and ive never experienced this

  • @klemelement said in More Toxic Double Gunning:

DG is breaking that, most new players have no clue how to DG, anyone who knows how has a player advantage.

Many players also don't know how to move candles properly, how to "drift", how to do the sword dash, but no one asks to change these mechanics. All these mechanics I mentioned have one thing in common with DG: training. What differs the novice from the oldest player in all these cases is only the experience.

The problem with DG is not DG itself, but the advantage it has when done in macros.

But the post doesn't say that. The post says that those who use DG are toxic, which is clearly wrong. The definition of toxic is very clear in SoT.

  • @klemelement Double gunning doesn't make the play 'toxic'. I was a long time cutlass user and also an advocate for the 'enforced cutlass' fix, however, it has become a case of 'if you can't beat em, join em' due to the lack of action by Rare.

The sword, in my opinion, is just not as good as DG. The added mobility it offers with sword surfing is it's only good attribute and whilst I still use the sword for PvE and general moving around, when we are going into combat I switch to DG.

But none of this makes me toxic, I might be a bit of scoundrel, but not toxic!

  • @octopus-lime I understand that, just was upset at the time. I should have been more specific :) Meant to say it's toxic when people exploit the fast shooting in double gunning. Double gunning itself isn't annoying, just the quick shooting.

  • I dont understand the behaviour being toxic.

This person attempted to kill you and so he did.
There are no rules, he just prefers guns over cutlass.

Its not the players fault, they didnt make the system.

Players shouldnt be able to exploit mechanics. Thats on rare not the player.

You do what you must to win in a fight.

  • @daringclarky

please do try reading my previous comments, I fixed my mistake & explained what I meant.

Otherwise, idk what point you're trying to get to because I've already been told the same thing by several other people. I understand this is on Rare, not the player. I was just upset at that moment about players generally using the exploit.

  • Yeah I agree DG is annoying, and I think PvP in general is going in the direction of those pointy shoot shoot games that seem to be the craze. I don't want that in my pirate game, I don't want to have to have inhuman reaction speeds and godly aim in a pirate game. I want to get into cutlass fights and proper pirate ship fights, not fps shooter fights. There are so many other games I could do that in

    No worries.

  • @daringclarky Thank you :)

  • @klemelement yeah the sword should be a compulsory weapon I think that would put a end to this

  • @mr-dragon-raaar @Bugaboo-Bill
I think the reason we liked the early game combat was that simply put, people were new. People didn't know about the block-lunge trick. People thought the blunderbuss was good at range and so the fights felt a lot longer. You'd pepper the enemy with a few shots and try to cutlass them. Boarding and anchoring wasn't a well known tactic so ship battles were more grand.

To put it shortly, people were inexperienced. People were experimenting with the weapons and tactics. Instead of rushing in with a sniper and pistol, or boarding and dropping the anchor, they were just trying out stuff.

  • @mferr11

And because all of this i suggested it need to be toned down by having proper balance and mechanics that prevent the boarding and gun meta.
It's sad there is so less Ship combat and to sink someone you have to board.
I'm not sure about it, but maybe is raising the ladders a good thing.
Boarding needs you to shot on someones deck or needs a proper enter maneuver. Ship combat, maneuvering and cannon handling becomes more important etc.
The Devs haven't done such things and combat became more and more shooter combat at least reagarding PvP.
I feel that's bad and the wrong route, i'm here to be more pirate, to sail, to have ship fights and to have good cutlass fights and not to play an fps shooter when it comes to PVP.

  • SoT is not a FPShooter!!!! Exactly this is not CSGO, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Fornite, Apex, PUBG, etc...

The DG is not only the problem I have seen the sword launch exploit, skipping the tired animation , doing the launch over and over until you’re dead. They really need to fix the animations exploits.

  • @bugaboo-bill I'd love if the guns in this were like the Black Powder weapons in FO76. -first your powder, then your ammo, then the ramrod to pack it down. Then you fire.

  • The pirates that were on the hot-mic should be reported, especially if you think they were using an aimbot. You should record video of that and/or what they said and send it in to both the Xbox Live Enforcement team and Rare's Support Team - do that, and they'll receive their due.

That said, the way they killed you wasn't toxic. Using double guns is, in no way, shape, or form a means of being toxic. Using 2 guns is fair play, and so is being shot once by 2 pirates at the same time.

Being insta-killed mid-flight is a bit of a stretch, but if they've had enough practice shooting at flying crewmates from their own cannons, I do believe it to be genuinely possible.

The only thing broken right now about double guns is the double gun EXPLOIT, where they dash forward to cancel the animation and get a 2nd, much faster shot, but I hear that's kind of hard to do - I certainly haven't been able to pull it off. Either way, I'm sure we're all still waiting for Rare to fix that one.

Limiting your options to just the sword and 1 firearm is not a PROPER solution, as it limits choice and gameplay styles - doing this would further cause players to quit the game due to how boring or stale the combat would get...

IMO, remove the DGE and readjust the sword in some ways back to the way it used to be, and we'll have perfect on-foot combat balance.

  • @galactic-geek Like @Bugaboo-Bill said, maybe get rid of all these swap delays, and make it so when you equip your gun, you need to manually take it out of "safety" mode by pressing the trigger or something.

Have it be half as long as the reload animation, and you only need to do it once every time you take the gun out.

  • @klemelement I thought they added some sort of animations in between to stop this but it was rampant in the game before I took a hiatus waiting for the optional cross play update since going to Xbox one servers I have not experienced it since

  • Here’s a idea for a solution. Everyone starts with a cutlass and flintlock. You find a blunderbuss and EoR in the wild. Upon death the blunderbuss and EoR drops on the ground and can be picked up by anyone. You can only carry one of each.

You can stash blunderbuss and the EoR in the Armory box to build up an armory. In the armory you select the four skins for your weapons instead of selecting the loadout.

You can carry all four weapons at once. However your five shots are used to reload all three of your guns. By tapping Y on Xbox or key board equivalent you switch between cutlass and flintlock. By holding Y or key board equivalent for a second or two you change you weapons over to Blunder and EoR. Tapping Y or key board equivalent you switch between blunder and EoR.

This may force you to choose your attack more carefully. On death you’ll drop the two guns possibly giving them to the enemy. With all three guns and only five reloads you would need to be more careful with your shots and be forced to go cutlass in order to reach an ammo crate.

With the toggle between the to weapon loadouts it would add a delay to flintlock EoR switch without adding anymore animation delays.
