How are Twitch Partners running with loot and switch/shooting so fast?

  • So I've been watching quite a few Sea of Thieves Partners stream on Twitch lately and one thing I notice, particularly around Pace22, A) He can grab loot, drop it, run and instantly pick it up again so he's able to run at complete full speed while carrying loot by continuing to pick it up and drop it again. I'm playing on PC, now matter how quickly I "X" to drop and immediately hold "F" to pick it up, I can't recreate how he runs, drops and picks it up without losing speed. Also can't seem to recreate how quickly they can shoot with a sniper, switch to a pistol and hit the exact same spot? Macro's perhaps? If so, where would I find these macros? They obviously can't be bannable given that it's being done on stream with actual Sea of Thieves partners.

Any advice is welcomed! Just trying to be the best pirate I can be!

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s using macros for this. The coordination would be staggering without them.

  • That's what I gather as well...

  • It's very very very simple to do.. Controller player here..

Added note! Using a Macro is absolutely agaisnt the rules and is bannable!

Supposed to be. Seems certain players are exempt though, lol.

  • You are forgetting to sprint. He is not using a macro. It's easy to do. I do it all the time when swimming loot back in the water, much faster. Drop it, sprint and pick it up. You will get the hang of it. Double gunning is similar, shoot, change weapon, sprint, shoot.

  • i do that stuff, and it doesnt require a macro. in my experience low latency is the requirement, esp for 'loot-sprinting'.
i also notice you referenced 'holding' the f button. there is a setting in options to allow you to press f rather than needing to hold f. use that!

I saw this once and think it's just stupid and looks stupid...the devs should definitly do something about this...
Yes, it's faster, but you know what...I play a game, no need to hurry

  • @schwammlgott I mean it's in the game and it's easy to do so I do it. Sometimes it comes in handy. I don't think it's game breaking or anything.

  • Tryhard exploits

  • You don't need a macro. It's even easier with the accessibility options that no longer require you to hold a button to interact with things.

  • It was that "Hold" F toggle that was slowing me down! That did the trick!

  • @busaga-medic both things are accomplished by using sprint,
    Drop swimming/running:

Drop the item and immediately press and hold sprint button and then directly press and hold pick up button, rinse and repeat. Drop swimming is easier then drop running even though the key presses are the same, the drop running can be made easier/more reliable by quickly looking down after pressing the sprint key.

The quick weapon switching/shooting is an exploit that uses animation canceling with sprint, i dont use this so i am not well versed in it but what it basicly is, is shoot, sprint a millimeter, switch, shoot. This is called the double gunning exploit and is actively being worked on to patch out.

Both are doable without macros the gun switching is significantly harder to pull off though

  • It easy but you need to be in a low ping server. Like under 100

  • Knowing the exploits as well as much practice is my guess.

If you change your settings to Single key press to pick up and stow then you are able to hit Pick Up as you run over objects to collect them mid sprint, then drop and rinse an repeat for faster movement while swimming running etc.

  • Just another try hard streamer doing whatever ridiculous thing they can to look good on stream to get that money. Creator partnered with the devs so nothing will happen about him doing it.

  • Spread the exploits isnt forbidden?
    @Deckhands

All who confirm they do it deserve a warning imho.

    @Rare fix the exploits!!!
Animation canceling is bad manners at minimum and to be honest it's exploiting glitches to literally "cheat"!

  • Pathetic exploiters, allthough its good that the streamers use them so they (rare) can patch them away....it will however take them 6months to do it though. ;P

Unless they care more about the streamers quality of fun and don't want them to complain.

  • @busaga-medic

The little shortcuts a lot of people use are easily macro-able. People think they're hot stuff when they know all of the tech, but trust me - you don't need to be a double-gunning, sword-lunge-cancelling, loot-sprinting macro user to be a successful pirate.

Some of us do well without having to rely on those things.

  • @busaga-medic

I can do this on controller very easily. Don't assume that everything is macro from PC side. I've asked some PC players and almost all of them have said that this game doesn't really require macros. They said the macros dont make things easier of faster because you are only having to do 1 or 2 things in succession. One friend that plays Star trek online says in that game he has a macro for like 8 buttons that he repeatedly presses in a chain.

This one is heavily dependant on latency and practice.

Just keep practicing. One bit of advice is do this set an item down, run across it and press the pick up button as you walk passed it or run passed it. The issue sith the key is the game is still in the pick up phase even though you are looking away or stepping away from it. So as long as you hit the button when it triggers you have a range before it disengaged.

Practice makes perfect. Just keep trying. I can do it on controller, you should be okay on PC. Good luck

EDIT - If you play on a friends server and he is in a different region, then you won't be able to do it. Lag makes this very very hard to pull off.

    @SatanicNemesis

Is dead right on the ping

  • The fast running you can do with loot requires no macros at all, it's easy to do both on controller & on keyboard. Been part of the game since launch and they have still not fixed it so i would blame Rare for that one and not go after certain streamers.

The quick-swap is part of a pretty gamebreaking exploit, same there; been part of the game since day 1 but i think it will get fixed in one of the next patches.

  • I would really like both of these to be patched out of the game. But either Rare doesn't know how, or they don't care enough to. Not sure.

  • Leave it as it is, the combat changes are ridiculous and cumbersome enough.

    Double tapping, I completely get.

But this isn't having a effect on other players in a negative way from what i can tell.

    So leave it be.

Just seems like a lot of hot air over nothing to me.

It's a bit like complaining about the sword dash/hop just because you haven't figured it out yet lol

  • @troubled-cells Well it can effect players in a negative way because you take less time to loot a fort or you can steal loot of a ship faster which puts others at a disadvantage. Both issues should be fixed as they are both not working as intended.

  • @jimzir nah sorry, you snooze you loose.

It's really not any different to dropping a chest in the water and picking it back up.

Leave it as it is, it's always been there.

  • @troubled-cells it's always been there is a pretty bad argument. Some bugs might have been in the game since release and still need to be found (and possibly abused) so we should just let them be because they've always been there?

It's an unintended effect and isn't doable by everyone as you need a low ping and that depends on the server and your location. So it can be abused by some and not others which isn't fare and come on it's stupid, why would you be faster if you keep dropping things? You should even be slower if you do that.

It should be removed or slow walking with loot should be removed (first one would be preferable). Especially since streamers are showing the glitch around.

  • @jimzir nope, I disagree.

You want to get rid of sword dash + hop as well?

    I'm guessing yes.

Its really not a big issue, or a issue at all in my opinion

  • @troubled-cells Can sword dash + hop be preformed by everyone? Yes, so no that can stay. (Even though you're right in that doesn't really makes sense either)

Can this drop-run be preformed by everyone? No, so it should be removed.

  • @jimzir i disagree, anyone can do it.

    Keep it as it is.

  • @troubled-cells Try doing it with high ping. The button mashing everyone can do, Ping is the limiting factor here, and since that ain't going anywhere...

Good for you that you always have a low ping, not everyone is that lucky.

  • @jimzir but i dont always have low ping, and I'm fine still.

If anything, if there is extreme issues with servers, then by default this will effect other mechanics other than this one, no?, just holding your standard here.

Are we going to adjust all the other mechanics to compensate for bad servers ?

    Nope, because that's just dumb.

It's simple, sort the servers instead.

The game has supplementary monetization, the argument was that this is to support content and keep the game in good shape.

  • These probably arent macros as outlined above.

They are a deliberate attempt to avoid gameplay restrictions that were added by the developers to make the game work the way they intended though.

That's worth discussing. I mean Rare obviously wanted people to move slower when carrying items for gameplay reasons. This subverts that. Giving a slight advantage to people who know how to do it. It's no different than the sword cancel thing, it's just slightly less obnoxious, I still say it goes against the level playing field spirit of the game.

The thing is Pace will still be good without this stuff. If they removed it tomorrow Pace is still gonna be a good player. As a partnered streamer he should maybe be setting a better example though.

  • @boxcar-squidy I mean surely if he's highlighting these things, as such a high profile player, wouldn't rare be more inclined to take notice if its something that serious ?

Or maybe it just isnt that big of an issue for rare? , just like the lunge + hop isnt.

Yeah, maybe. And if Rare fixes this there'll be something else that people learn to circumvent and other people will complain because: "Streamer X did the thing!!!"

I'm not really bothered by the fast carry. Though I don't use it personally. Sword cancel was pretty annoying though.
