Ahoy Fellow Pirates!!
So as I am a more PvP over PvE player. I like to board ships, kill pirates and sink their ships while stealing goods, its how i find the game more enjoyable than running around just stealing treasures. That said the registration for hitmarkers in this game is way off. I've had a lot of people I shoot and kill without a hitmarker yet, 3/4 pistol hits on a guy with a sword leads me to die although he isn't eating. That being said, why not add a little crosshair into the game but you can have the option for a few styles or none, which most might prefer. This isn't a post to 'moan or cry' I just think it would be nice to have a decent shooting system as taking on other pirates is greatly increasing with the Arena mode. If you agree upvote, if not reply saying why? I like to hear people opinion on this current situation.
-Thanks.

A crosshair doesn't have anything to do with hit registration. The problem is in the game's design. Your hit marker showing that you successfully hit the other player is detected locally on your Xbox/PC but the actual damage is detected on the server. The server lag in this game means that these two often don't match. This leads to getting hit markers even though there is no damage and causing damage without getting a hit marker.Rare intentionally left out a crosshair because they didn't want this to be just another twitch shooter game. As this was an intentional design decision by Rare, this won't change but that doesn't stop people from putting a piece of tape on their screen to use as a crosshair.
I shot another pirate with a flintlock that was swimming in the water near me 3x. He didn't die, and because he was swimming backwards trying to return fire, I could clearly see that he didn't eat anything. A flintlock does 50% damage in a hit, so he should have died on the 2nd hit. So why didn't he? The posts above explain exactly why.

Since I was on the topic of combat I thought being able to have a crosshair would be nice, but yeah I understand the reason for it. However, the ghost hits need to go and the pvp in this game will be perfect. The game as it is now is beautiful but it would be nice to be confident that shooting someone twice with the pistol would kill, would make it that much sweeter. thank you for the explanation!
@ghxstedd
Hit registry and a crosshair have no influence on each other.
The hit marker is given when your client thinks it is a hit, yet the server does not always agree and the server is always right. Same reason the opposite happens.
Now, the hit registration has huge inaccuracies and it is my opinion that even now the game should only give you a hit marker after the server registers the hit.
This won't solve the problem, but at least the feedback would correspond with the actual results. I am so frustrated with getting 4 'hits' and nothing happened, even had a talk with one of the guys I fought and he said he had not been hit at all... now I might just be missing, but the game shouldn't indicate otherwise. It is hard to judge the situation when you are not being provided with accurate information.
I hate SoT becomes a PvP shooter game!!!
Destroys it for me more and more.
No swashbucklers anymore only pewpew dead next...So much less piratish combat what we have. Really frustrating and sad.
We maybe want to remove ships and dry the ocean out to run between oasis in a desert and add long range headshots. Salty comment. I know.
PvP meta and community more and more kills SoT for me because of the shooter combat we have and less and less fights like pirates should have and where you have to do more to kill someone, but only 2 shots in under 2s.
Now we have too mamy people aproach SoT like Fortnite and want that sort of PvP instead to ask for fun, diverse and comical pirate fighting.
Someone remember PotBS.
Wasn't great melee combat, but 10 times more Pirate than what we have today.@bugaboo-bill said in PvP: Hitmarkers or 'ghost hits':

Wasn't great melee combat, but 10 times more Pirate than what we have today.I understand how much people want to be pirates with the countless abuse I’ve gotten for sinking other crews but at the end of the day. Rare made it PvP 24/7 and the arena mode isn’t that rewarding. Most of the time I wanna do the normal things you do with killing pirates in between but sometimes I just wanna even a good fight. Most of the people I’ve come across try to sneak up on me but being one that sneaks myself I always even up getting the upper hand. It’s just the way of the game. Stealing loot is more rewarding than grinding it out (considering there’s an title for stealing 5 Chest of Legends)
@bugaboo-bill this is true, why in a pirate game is bouncing around someone's ship with a shotgun even an option, when in any pirate lore, history or media have you seen a pirate jumping around the ship one shooting people with a blunderbuss? I personally want my fights to be epic fights not evolve into an fps shooter, my opinion , nerf the hell out of the blunder and make the EoR hipfire way less accurate and maybe buff the cutlass a little bit.
@simplelyricc personally i beeleive they should add a counter to the blunder like a shield that can block 2 shots and then breaks OR they could change it to 5 per pellet damage but decrease projectile spread.

Dont get me wrong, i barely sink.
I maybe get killed, but it's them who sink and don't come back.
I PvP all day if there is PvP around.
We check almost every ship, except most Sloops, because it isn't worth it and feels bad, as you said looking for good fights, not to overwhelm a soloer.
Rare made nothing. You can still pve or just immerse into the Seabox as ever, if you feel there is only PvP to do then it's you.
I have the legendary thief title already for long time. I'd guess i have stolen 10 at minimum, and not shared or traded, but stolen!
I have "nothing to do" except to sink some more Skeleton ships maybe, but my business is mainly to immerse and sail around, doing whats coming across, mostly pve, but welcomimg all sorts of pvp. What i want is no shooter PvP, i want more tactical fights, more piratish fights that last longer than 2s.
Yesterday i shot 2 holes into a Brig, they got killed and sunk.
Not fun! Not even challenging
Too easy!!!@bugaboo-bill honestly people moan too much that there is too much pvp and that the blunder is op. Not really. If the blunder is the only way to get a certain kill then you best believe I’m going to use it and I’m going to use the mechanics (aka movement and gun skill) to my advantage and kill u 100% instead of relying on a pistol that connects 1 out of 5 shown hit markers. If the registration was fixed I think people would enjoy it more. I hit a stronghold barrel out of someone crows nexts. Took me 3 hit markers before it blew up. Like that’s really unfair. Or my friend and I put 3 pistol shots each into this guy and didn’t die? Or even no hit marker, I hit 2 shots back to back with a sniper to kill a guy, no hit marker but it was a kill. It’s just irritating
