I don't know if I would personally use pve servers very happy with the opt out bit if people want it give it to them if it would make the game better for them I don't see why not
Never add PvE servers

A "PvE" player, who logs in for that same hour, can lose everything, and gain nothing. Their quest did not get finished, they got no rep, they got no gold, they had no "fun", because all of their "work" in the game was for nothing.
See, that's why it is YOUR problem. You play this game with the wrong mentality. If playing a game is only entertainment for you if you get to LVL UP screens thrown at you, then this game is not your game.
SoT is supposed to be played for the stories you make, for your adventures, for the different player interactions you can have. It was not designed for people who only want to engage in no-brain grinds. You can still do that, of course, but don't expect the game to bow down to fulfill your standards. You have all the tools to grind as much as you want, but Sea of Thieves is and should always be what it was advertized as: A SHARED-WORLD multiplayer game.
So tell me again, what is the risk vs reward of a strictly PvP player vs a strictly PvE player?
Perhaps SoT should take a page from a game called archage. When someone crafts a trade pack. The crafter can get 100% of the value if they are able to turn in the pack. If they get ganked and someone else turns in the pack, they only get a % of its value.
If in SoT, anything i picked up gets me rep/titles/achievements attached to it, even at a loss, then i would gladly be more interested in daily, constant, never ending pvp. Or spending the time to do a tall tale or gilded.
Which brings me back to sole pvp risk vs reward.
I can spend X amount of time to do an activity, only to lose it all to someone, who spends 5 minutes sailing over to where i am and sinking me cause i am out of supplies, or already fighting off a meg, or ghost ships or "whatever". I literally had someone chase me for over 15 minutes, when i had zero loot....zero.Some day i want the full SoT experience. Sometimes, i just want a nice simple relaxing hour or two of fishing.
The game already has an achievement for turning in a stolen chest. SO the game is already tracking who gets and who turns in the loot. Just add a % reward to those who did the "PvE" and "new" players as well as veterans, may not have such an issue with it.
But tell me this. If you are already a legend, completeed all or most of the achievements. Would you then resort to PvP, just to watch the loot sink?
While i may be new to the game, i am not new to humanity or PVP. Archage, Eve online (decade ole player). Ultima, etc, etc, etc.
Everyone needs an incentive, Risk vs Reward.
@meditrina7746 Even the "strict PvP player" is at the risk of losing his ship/anything he's collected so far whenever he/she picks a fight.
And no, a chest is only yours when you cash it in and not a second earlier. Digging up a chest is not more work than finding a ship, fighting the crew and stealing their loot. Perhaps we should increase the worth of loot when it's stolen?
I doubt that many players watch loot sink. I've left behind some treasures and worthless items as well, true. But only if I'm running out of time or anything. Maybe it's you who needs to realize that there is NO way to have a clear distinction between PvP and PvE players. My crew is 60% PvE, 40% PvP. There is no way that I would ever ask the devs to remove PvP players. It's part of the game. Deal with it or leave. But don't try to change a game design that literally the majoritv of players enjoy.
So I’m fairly new to SoT. I recently picked it up on PC and I’m really enjoying it.
But I can already tell you that I don’t enjoy the PvP aspect of it.
I got this game because I was really drawn to the sailing and the exploration. I love doing the clues you find in bottles, running around islands fighting skeletons, and even the faction voyages.
But when I have to constantly watch my back on some servers where people just want to sink ships, it really ruins the things that I enjoy in this game. As a mostly solo player, I have to limit myself to how much stuff I stock on my ship because I know that a Galleon is going to come by at some point and try to steal all my work. And let’s not even talk about spending two hours doing a Tall Tale just to get sunk near the end.
I don’t really see the issue with adding separate PvE servers. There seems to be enough people that want both, that it’s not going to really hurt the population on either side. If anything, i feel the people drawn to PvP will enjoy more PvP battles because they will be on a server with like minded people. They won’t have to spend all this time chasing people like me who just want to catch some chickens or kill skeletons.
@noble-x6 The problem with adding in PVE servers is that we also like you know, stealing loot, and not just fighting ships which have literally no loot. (hey that sounds like 75% of the ships we sink already). If I wanted to lets say do the Tall-Tales or Athena missions (how you normally do them, not how my crew does them where we literally make it as easy as possible for people to find us) why should I do it in the PVP server?
I would advise watching guides on how to PVP, learning advantages of each and every ship, and spending as much of your time as you can for a while just killing everyone on sight. Sloop is the fastest sails straight into the wind with straight sails and can outrun any ship that way. Once you actively engage in combat you will realize how horrible 95% of the playerbase is at it. If you manage to get good at the PVP in this game, which really in the end is quite easy, you will no longer fear those galleons and realize that those galleons are easier to sink than sloops.
I agree.
PvE SOT is not.
PVP SOT is not.Its a PVEVP game.
Its all about emergent gameplay.
SOT would be boring without the player interaction.Let them play their dog water game of friend simulator, i certainly wont.
Even yet, i could imagine the mode would be removed if not enough people played it.
@jofjjay I think you've somewhat missed what I was saying which is that I don't enjoy the PvP at all so I have no real incentive to spend my time getting better at it.
I don't want to spend my time trying to sink others ships, or defending mine from other players because at the end of the day it's not an aspect I enjoy in this game or why I am playing. I'd like to jump on an island and just explore without having to worry about people coming by just to sink my ship or steal the two skulls I have on it.
As to add incentives for playing on PvP servers, Rare could possibly make mission rewards more valuable, or every turn in give more gold.
I just don't see an issue with separate servers other than people somehow feeling offended that others don't enjoy the same aspect of this game that they do and that they won't always be able to just prey on every sloop they see.
@noble-x6 Only doing PVE is only part of the game. My advice to spend time getting good at PVP is not aimed towards you doing it regularly as much as knowing how to defend yourself from other players. If you do not wish to have to defend yourself from other players then this game isn't really for you.
I am perfectly fine with PVE servers. On one condition. They make it 0% progress and 0% gold. That way if people really do enjoy the PVE that much they get to do it, but if you just want to grind for money you cannot cheat around it.
@noble-x6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7dxstP9LZc just watch this video, it will sum up every argument everyone is going to make against you.
What a joke that creator has become.. He states that if perhaps 80% of the player base all wanted PVE servers it might one day happen.. But because a tiny percentage of content creators (0.0001%?) of the player base wanted private servers they get them delivered.. Just how out of touch has Rare become with it's community..
Disclaimer: I have never asked or wanted PVE servers..
It's a multiplayer world..
No private servers!!!!
I came in here to talk about how PvE/Private-Progression servers would detract from Adventure mode because then people would ONLY play Adventure to PvP, but you have brought up something more important.
Sea of Thieves NEEDS an end-of-life plan. It needs it as bad as any game that depends on a Central Server.
I'd be perfectly happy if the only way to play it while Microsoft is still running the servers is the PvPvE Adventure we know and love. But I sure would appreciate some assurance that, once the game isn't meeting corporate bottom lines, that this work of ART isn't lost forever.
Ideally that'd mean dedicated server software being released to the public, but I'd settle for offline Singleplayer. It'd be better than no one ever playing the game again.
i might not have played for asl long as some of you but. tbh ive never enountered greifers or relentless pvp players. infact just last night my crew allied with a solo sloop pl and did the fotd. we got all the loot ( excluding mega kegs cause i didnt want to get in a fight and sink because someone pulled a fast one on us). we got sunk at the reapers hideout by a noob galleon mostly because 2 of us were boarding and we didnt have any wood. ou Pl friend grabbed our athenas and headed twoards the outpost while our guy on the ship respawned and headed twoards the reapers hideout. the galleon got all of our stuff on a rowboat and attached it to their ship. they threw a firebomb at us (we were still on their ship) and it eventually caught the whole ship on fire lol. we managed to sink them and take the loot. they didnt try and come back. this happens alot with me not all the players are noobs but if our crew can really scare them off then we dont get trouble. so tbh i havent really experienced toxic pvpers.
As I allready said in other threads I am one of the new Solo Sloop Players out there and I must say the couple of days I now played SoT I LOVED it for what it is!
I think the Players who complain about PvP in this Game dont really know what Game they bought in first place?! In this Game you can loose all the loot you worked on that is a risk we all accept as soon as we set sails. Also there are no "Legend Players" with OP items because (and that is one of the things I love the most!!!!) the only things you can buy are cosmetic items. So that means, yeah maybe the other guy has shiny stuff on him and his ship BUT that doesnt mean you can sunk his a***** to the bottom of the ocean.
People who wanna have PvE Servers well I can understand them to some Point but lets be honest, when you wanna get everything the game offers without any risk of loosing anything, you should consider play others games.
