Guide for newcomers!

  • Hello there,

I've seen a lot of people in the forums creating topics like: "i want passive mode" "we want private servers" "i am uninstalling the game because it has too much pvp"

So, I am typing this topic with some tips and tricks for those who just started sailing, without further dues let's get started!

    1. The Maiden Voyage
This tutorial is very important for you to learn the basics like combat, fishing, exploring, cannon usage, rowboat usage and some tales about the game.
Try to complete all commendations (you can find commendations on your reputation menu).

    2. Sailing
The game is all about sailing, so after completing the Maiden Voyage you need to understand how a ship works so here is a link where you can find information you need https://seaofthieves.gamepedia.com/Ships
Try to practice with a sloop first, it sinks faster, but it's more agile and easier to handle because of it's size.
Try to see where the wind is going and ajust your sails every time you make a turn or the wind gets bad (if you want full sail of course).
Try to avoid galleons they're faster than any other ship when the wind is favorable, use the sails and harpoons to make a quick stop at a island to dig a chest (USE THE ANCHOR ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES [this tip can save your life])

    3. Combat
Combat is pretty simple, you can swing the cutlass three times to do a combo, it halves the enemie's life if you hit all swings, the pistol also halves the HP so 3 swings and a shot should do the trick.
Try to avoid getting closer to an enemy if they have a blunderbuss if they get close enough they can hit kill you.
Try not to run straight forward to avoid shots all weapons have slow reloads use this window to get closer.
Use your cutlass to block your enemies swings if you block 3 consecutive swings your opponent get stunned for a sec.

    4. Be aware of your surroundings
YES, 100% OF THE TIME, you have a spyglass use it to see long distances when you are sailing AND when you're not.
You can use the crow's nest at the top of me mainmast to see things further.
Use the compass to report to your mate from where the danger is coming from.

Well, I guess that's it for now, I came with this from blank so I might be forgetting something, if you have any tips to help our newcomers, reply here so we can change experiences, and if you newcomer need help, you can create a topic or reply here too and someone will quote you with some tips, let's include and not exclude players who are not familiar with our universe, the more players we get, the better the game gets.

Sorry for the bad grammar, english is not my mother tongue. D:

Be safe and good luck on your sails!

  • Loot.
Just because you dug it up and have it on your ship. Doesn't make it yours. Turn those items in quickly and on time.

    No Sweat.
Don't sweat the stuff. Enjoy yourself and your own journey. You will face many hardships and many enemies, but don't let it keep you from having a jolly old time. After all, this be your story and how to came to the sea, maybe even tame it.

No. If I have a cookie, haven’t eaten it yet but someone takes it and shoves down there throat. It’s not mine, it’s there’s They are it and I lost the cookie.

Thus. You have loot you better turn it in for profit or risk losing it
