Alliance Friendly Fire Toggle Crew FF too!

  • How many times have you apologised because you accidentally shot your alliance buddy instead of that keg skelly at the fort?

It would be nice to have an option to disable friendly fire which will be the default option upon joining an alliance.

If you wish to betray your alliance you must set this option at the flag.
Flag / Join Alliance / then when you have the option to leave an alliance you have Friendly Fire On/Off next to it.

Toggle it on if you wanna spar or betray.
Have this option for your own crew so you can spar too.

I understand that betrayals happen and so leaving said alliance right away gives away the element of surprise.

Therefore make it a setting at the flag.
You can do everything you always can.
However if you receive accidental damage from an alliance member now you have every right to be suspicious as they may full well intend to double cross.

Eitherway its going to be much easier to collaborate together and less likely for crews to accidentally aggro the other over a silly fee shots or slashes.

  • No. This shouldn't be an option at all. Sea of Thieves is meant to be played with the constant risk of danger on the horizon. Which means people should be able to betray you at any time for any reason. Why even make friendly fire a toggle anyways? And is it going to prevent a crew in your alliance from abusing it to be trolls?

Maybe instead of relying on a crutch to prevent "friendly fire," you could actually learn to check your aim and your trigger finger?

  • Having to announce my betrayal before I actually betray seems counter-intuitive to what a betrayal is. Especially when it comes to the suddenness of that key moment of betrayal. I love the fact that friendly-fire exists, this adds depth to a game that requires players to think about their actions. If you are attacking a shared target with cannon-fire and friendlies are aboard that targeted ship, I love the fact that people have to spend time and aim properly in order to avoid hitting allies. I like this realism. We need to remember that from Rares perspective, tools not rules is their primary focus on design choice. Having a system that favors cooperation over betrayal limits that tools range of operation. Removing friendly fire favors one over the other.

You misunderstand the point of my post.
I explicitly set it so you can still kill and exploit and betray alliances.

If you wanna murder your alliance you can.
However if you want to do a fort together as a giant crew, set the toggle as a quality of life improvement.

Dont tell me to improve my aim. You dont know me or my capabilities. If you think i lack skill in this game you are surely mistaken.

You dont even announce your betrayal either.
You can just toggle it off by your flag and kill them.
Alternatively, pretend its always on and be careful not to hurt anyone. Give them a false sense of security.

Cant see how this can be an issue to be honest.

    Good constructive criticism.
I suppose its rares intention to make you never feel fully relaxed around a crew other than your own.

  • Far too many negatives to positives with this in favour of trolls..

1 simple example.. Alliance memeber just casually climbing your ladder and picks up your chest or has a boom barrel.. you need to quickly take care of that.. going into a setting to toggle = 0 chance to stop the player with a boom barrel or stop them from yoinkin your loot before you can even do anything about it!

Plenty of these posts on this discussion have been raised.. most agree it's just not a good idea overall and doesn't fit with what Rare's visage is with SOT.. don't get me wrong I understand the intentions are good for the idea.. but it's a no from me!

  • I just watch for the signs of betrayal and take care of it if needed. Other than that, I apologize before it even starts cause I know in the fray I am going to accidentally hit someone more than once, may even accidentally make you go boom. From there, I raise a grog and go in guns blazing and sword swingin! IT'S A PIRATES LIFE FOR ME!☺
