This game is wonderful! But, the most annoying thing is when I’m on a ship with a friend and another friend wants to join. We are halfway through a quest and don’t want to start over. So, I’m proposing a change ship option. You can access this in the settings. And it would work like the “Lock in Brig”. Your crew can vote to change size so that another friend can play without restarting your progress.
Change Ship Size Option

The only way I could see this be balanced and work is to allow players to strictly down-size and not up-size. (Galleon to brig, brig to sloop, Galleon to sloop) We don't want players grinding out loot on sloop then upgrading to a galleon so his 2-3 buddies can get free loot. It doesn't seem very balanced.

Allowing down-sizing will allow crews that started out on a bigger ship but had friends leave early to continue voyaging on a more practical sized ship. (4 friends on a galleon had 2 players leave mid-voyage. They downsize to a sloop and continue the voyage.)

@katchep
Whats the problem with having friends free loot?@YeetTheCows
Agree!Maybe a small fee at the outposts shipwright and you wont keep supplies but you can unload them before into a rowboat or a supply chest.

There's still the issue of server limitations to deal with if you want to go bigger.
But does that really matter as the server limit is 6 crews/ ships, regardless of 6 Sloops or 6 Galleones?
So lets say you are duo Slooping and the server is full of 5 other Galleones. Never happened to me btw, it's Sloops, oh another Sloop, sloop, oh a Brig, sloop, sloop, sloop, a Galleone, player or Skellies? player, really? Oh yes, let's turn :D
Then 2 friends come and you switch to the 6th Galleone.
Does that really matter?I'm sure the matchmaking works the way to have "balanced" servers, so maybe 2 of each Shiptypes, but they should try and make it the way thst this is possible imho.
I dont see any downsides to it and we often have the case that someone leaves and we sail a Galleone undermanned or someone wants to join and has to wait until we are finished and then loose a well stocked up vessel.@galactic-geek sagte in Change Ship Size Option:

As @Bugaboo-Bill said...the limitation isn't about players, it's about ships...so it shouldn't matter
And i just remembered when a full Galleone server went for the Hungering One or the Thrones.
We had 5 or 6 Galleones at Sharkbait then and at Marauders Arch later.
Oh that was so much fun!!!
And it looked so beautiful when all the ships parked their and 20+ players danced, drunk and played Musik with Merrick or tried to shoot themself on Marauders Arch Throne.Ohhh Nostalgia ☠
