Free Account??

  • Hello!

I wanted to make a new SoT account (...created new Microsoft store account and Xbox account) for my friend since he doesn´t know how to do it. When I was finished setting everything up, I saw that he is able to play Sea of Thieves without buying it?

Why is that so? Is he somehow linked to my account? Is there a way to disable that and make a whole new unique account or is this some kind of exploit that he is able to play the game for free?

I even tested it on my pc, and I was able to select a brand new pirate with a new / different gamertag while I was on a DIFFERENT Microsoft store account and a DIFFERENT Xbox account which DON´T use the same Email address and are NOT linked together since I created a whole new email address and stuff for him ( for his Microsoft / Xbox account...).

I am asking out of curiosity if this is intended to happen!

Note: I never linked his Xbox or Microsoft store account to my account or anything...

  • Maybe your friends on gamepass, and it worked for your pc because it was already downloaded. Idk for sure though

  • If his Xbox has your account set as the home Xbox any game you purchase he will be able to play. If you have the game installed on Windows 10 you can load it up on any account without that account purchasing the game. It's a licensing thing it can be a little confusing.

  • @navillicious Ahh so it´s actually fine if he plays with me set as Home XBOX? Can he do something that affects my account too? If he f*cks up or something will this affect me to?
    Ty

  • @idiotslayer7418 if you mean along the lines of account suspension or something like that then no, everything he does on his account is marked against that account and not the account that owns the license itself. If he signed into your account however whatever is done on your account will be marked on your account. That said I wouldn't go sharing the game on PC due to you essentially being able to give the game to anyone and everyone not only does that break a rule somewhere I'm sure you wouldn't all be able to play at the same time (I believe the maximum amount of concurrent players under the same license on Windows 10 is 2 and any more than that would start kicking people off the game).

I don't know if that is totally true. If it's on PC and he does something dumb like use a cheat that gets detected, even if it's in a game other than SOT, it's possible that all associated accounts could be affected.

At least I hope it would work this way, otherwise they are just letting cheaters get away with creating dummy accounts. Any other service with game sharing usually works this way.

If one console is connected to 2+ accounts, they merge and share games until the account with said game is logged out of,

Note: Progress in game will not carry over, just the games, unless primary account is account with progress
