I want the skeletons to take up different roles to improve the combat. Each of these roles could be used with the 4 different base types (plant, bone, shadow, gold).
Nimble Skeletons: These skeletons are weak, fast and are designed to distract you. They rush at you forcing you into sword combat.
Ranged Skeleton: These skeletons are stronger, slower and more dangerous. They hang in the back lines shooting you.
Shield Skeleton: These skeletons are weak and slow, but carry shields on them. They're more a support role that would shield the ranged skeletons.
Mystic Skeleton: These skeletons are a rare encounter. They're strong mini bosses that attack in unique ways. They have the ability to curse you with 1-2 cursed cannonball effects that change each encounter. They have a melee attack using their staff.
Armored Skeleton: These skeletons are a rare encounter. They're strong mini bosses that attack in unique ways. They have a lot of health and use heavy attacks (slow but powerful attacks that if landed would make you limp).
