Captaincy Update

  • Couple of sugestions for said update:

    • feature unlocks after reaching Athena 10
    • allows you to name your ship
    • gives access to 100lvl caps for 3 main factions and 20lvl for Athena
    • reaching new levels grants various captain ranks and new items for ship customisation (furniture for captain's cabin on galleon, back of brigantine, etc.)
    • new variants of ship types as final reward, e.g. sovereign sloop, admiral brigantine, ghost galleon, sea dog sloop... - they do not change hitbox of the ship or placement of the cannons, just add some visual diversity, like new barriers, stairs, lanterns
    • on outposts crew can choose their captain - his ship, with all the customisation and name, will be loaded in (alternatively, the same thing, but in Legendary Hideout)

    Why not :) Agree

    • allows you to name your ship

This is mandatory, so yes, I agree too

NO. No, no and NO. We don't need more tedious levels. Instead, make different content for the trading companies (AKA: Emissaries which are going to come sometime soon)

This was planned to happen on the legendary hideout for PLs

  • This would be great for inflating the heads of many players.

I joined a brig crew yesterday that had a squeaker proclaiming his captaincy due to his pirate legend status. This kid could not sail properly, then insisted we drop anchor next to a volcano in Devils Roar.
I just left without a word.

I join random crews in search of a captain worthy of my trust.
I'd rather see a system where captains had a rating from crewmates based on successful voyages or popularity.
A reputation based on player renown instead of rank. So a popular captain naming his ship has gravity.

Instead of some tryhard that grinded but has no leadership or communication skills.

  • @eggamer13 Yeah probably you have a point with the tediousness of additional levels. I just miss the reputation bars going up, the satisfaction that came with it. Maybe it would be a good idea to remove the caps, but do not tie any big rewards to the higher levels - which would be almost impossible to reach for most players - and instead go for some titles.

  • @barnabas-seadog The captaincy update idea was to become a Pirate Legend, and then, with some challenge, you could get something like "Legendary Captain" status and then you would get the good stuff. I think if Rare made a big and cool Athenas rework, (or even tall tales for pirate legends) then they could implement that.

  • @eggamer13
Again, that sounds like just more grind.

Nothing that suggest a successful pirate commander, where empathy, communication skill, and knowledge of the game are required.

  • @tomon2137

So for the original Pirate Legend update that we were supposed to get, here are some of the highlights Mike and Joe talked about...

    • Pirate Legends would have "new progression" as Legendary Captains

    • Pirate Legends would be able to own ships from the Pirate Legend Hideout

    • Pirate Legends would become their own "Jack Sparrow" or "Davy Jones" with their own Black Pearl. Joe and Mike also state that we would be able to customize our ships in such a way that "everyone would know immediately that you are a Legend" - this suggests something more significant than just Legendary ship cosmetics that we currently have.

    • The Legend Hideout would become like the batcave to Pirate Legends and we would be able to emerge into the world from the waterfall.

    • Pirate Legends would have access to special voyages that took us to Ancient Chests which would contain Legendary Cosmetics. This would include "stuff made from Kraken Bones" as Mike said in one interview. I think Athena's Fortune was just one part of the special Legendary progression.

All in all, Mike and Joe went on and on about how meaningful Pirate Legend would be and what we would have access to as legends, but instead what we have is a bare-bones husk of what Pirate Legend status was supposed to be...

Captaincy sounded like an amazing new layer to the game to be unlocked once you got to the Pirate Legend endgame, with some cool and classic tropes from stories about Legendary Pirate Captains such as Jack Sparrow or Barbossa, and their beloved ships - a feature set that would be super fitting to a Pirate Legend in Sea of Thieves.

This is the biggest thing I've been waiting for and I'm just so sad that it isn't in the game. My longing for this update has become stronger after watching all of the PoTC movies in sequence while I had the flu a week ago.

  • I belive they didn't forget to add it... We need end game contnent
