So my brother just became a PL lvl 10 and got a diamond achievement for it I was just curious as to how many there were and if it is around the 1000 player mark I'm surprised Rare didn't send personal messages thanking us for reaching that level it's a small gesture and I'm sure fans of the game would appreciate it

Congrats to your Bro. My kid's a PL10. Has been for a while. I'm afraid it's more common than you think.I started playing sea of thieves on December 22, 2018 and became Athena level 10 just before the mega update. When Rare announced a special reward for pirate legends, I maxed out my Athena level hoping there was a special award for PL 10. Sadly there wasn’t anything.
I’m still happy with the cosmetics I did get and hope they give out the rest of the cosmetics next year on the birthday of sea of thieves
Some may be surprised to hear this, but for as long as I've been playing (nearly every day since the closed alpha, for those of you that don't know), I'm still not yet a PL10, even as I type this (my current standing is PL8). I would very much like to be a part of that exclusive club, but I don't have the stomach for the grind, as I spend most of my time playing solo, and either aimlessly wandering the Sea and just soaking up the sun, or focusing on the time-limited events and cosmetics.
Why, I don't think I've completed an Athena run in months, much less started 1 - it's just so damn tedious! I have better, more exciting things to do with my time.
With that said, I will not be averse to any one of you helping me catch up, should you deign to help me.
To those of you who have surpassed me in this regard - cheers! 👏🍻
Enjoy not being lvl 10, because once you are, the Athena chest becomes as valuable to you as a foul bounty skull.
@galactic-geek I feel you i dont do any voyage that i dont like the cargo missions from Forsaken Shores havent done them yet, but i can recommend you my way of to do Athena voyages.
Do Athena voyages with your friends when you are all in a chilled mood just to talk and mess around as you complete it and also try to complete the commendations around the Athena Fortune, killing megs buying voyages things you are doing anyway.Athena 10 isn't something super special anymore since they have made it way easier to gain rep in it through events and such, about a year ago it was actually an achievement to reach it since it required you to do the Athena Voyages so it was like 100h+ grind.
You probably know this by now but don't rush it, try to steal the remaining ones from players or do FotD since that would feel more rewarding than grinding athena voyages
First off Congratulations to your brother! A very low percentage of those that have sailed the Sea of Thieves have achieved this landmark!
While Pirate Legend has been made easier to achieve through double gold days & such the Athena ranking system has stood strong overall. Many PL10's took to the Devil's Roar to eclipse the achievement and GOD bless em' for doing so for the "Roar" will test the strongest of any man's mettle!
I personally achieved Legend status 43 days after launch and hit PL10 before the summer of 18'.
The road to PL10 forged strong bonds within our brotherhood that exist to this day. We pushed one another , fought for one another and defended those Athena's (everyone was coming for them!) with everything we had! In all 8 of us made PL10 in that run. Many more are still closing in on the mark! So celebrate your brother for his accomplishment............. I got PL 10 only 3 months into the game. Nowadays it's much easier, but I do wish we gained something for being the first 20 or so in the first few months of the game. The only person that got recognized is the very first, Prodigy, even though his viewers gave him rep for all his factions for free.
Hopefully, they reward us some way or another, even though it's almost 2 years later.
@corleththefey Being PL and Athena 10 PL are two different things entirely. I find very few people using the PL10 figurehead. That figurehead is awesome and a way to show status. Personally that and the dragon are the only two I use. There are tons of players still on the journey and more to come as the game is continually advancing. Grab those Reapers chests today!
@travis-gornicke I think part of the problem here is that those achievement stats are rather misleading. Take the "Now bring me that horizon" achievement, for instance. To unlock it you simple have to board your ship and sail away, something that surly we all do every time we log in? The achievement shows that on 66% of players have unlocked it, meaning that a third of those who ever logged in to the game never even got as far as sailing their ship. Pretty crazy really!
I think this is down to the fact that the game was hugely hyped before release and was the first MS game to hit the Gamepass, which meant a alot of people tried it out for free and immediately put it down without giving it a proper try.
Considering that along with the very rare achievements, it really does skew the figures somewhat. I'd say that anyone who has stuck around for any length of time is PL10 or at least on their way there by now.
As mentioned in the other replies, it was once a prestigious achievement but lost its punch a long while ago with DR Athena’s and double rep events. Still a fun grind nonetheless and shows you’ve put time in to the game but it doesn’t mean much in the current build of the game and many have reached the PL10 mark.
Definitely work needed for end game content as realistically the only thing they have brought in since launch was PL commendations.
