Rubber bounce when shooting from cannons

  • I'm wondering everyones opinion on how firing out of a cannon works.

There have been times I had solid shots onto a ship but bounced off because I hit a mast or whatever. Other times I had a good shots onto islands and ended up being flung off because the game treats player characters as rubber balls when firing out of cannons.

Just wondering if everyone would prefer to not have a bounce mechanic and instead when you hit something, you hit it and fall down instead of being bounced across.

  • I think this largely depends on the shape of the collision box of whatever you are hitting as well as the angle that you hit it. Sometimes you can shoot into a tree and stop, and other times you can glance off and fly far away.

This might just be default behaviour of the physics engine. I don't think there is a specific bounce mechanic, it just happens based on specific criteria - kind of like how the sword lunge through the water works, or the various old glitches where you could propel yourself at insane speeds.
