Magical Mermaid Gems

  • Mermaid gems can be weaponised!

    Each colour represents an element.
    I.e blue = frost
    Green = venom
    Red = fire.

    You can destroy the gem and use its power on a weapon.

    So you could use a red gem to imbue your sword with a fire burning effect.

    Or frost gem in your pistol that not only damages but slows their movement speed down i.e freeze.

    Whenever a weapon is charged it has so many hits until the effect wears off. Until its depleted you can enjoy a nice visual effect on your sword or weapon. of choice.

    The weapon you use and which effect is up to you.
    Its balanced because you need to find a gem to use and the trade of is..losing said gem as a sellable loot.

    Turns it into a kind of arm-able resource like a keg but not as devastating.

    Using blue gem to slow people down with your sword or venom shooting people with a sniper.

    Heck, even set a ship on fire with a sniper if you use the red gem.

    You have a limited amount of hits before the wffect wears off but there isnt a time limit, so you can save these hits and shots for when they matter.

    For balance purposes, using fire effect on a ship will deplete quicker than using on a player but its still possible.

    I feel like it should be a limited amount of time too, so you have to keep valuable loot on you to use the effect. I like the idea though!

  • The only thing they should add to mermaid gems is; an increase in rep / gold when sold at night time.

    Stuff you've mentioned just seems like what they'll be adding for potions at some point.

  • @josephtodd They’re adding potions? 😯

  • @daringclarky

    They're theorized to be, however most suggestions are not promising due to involving buying them with gold, which would be considered a form of linear progression and disregarded. If added, they'll likely be found scattered throughout the world, like cursed cannonballs.

  • @ultmateragnarok That would be interesting.

  • Ahoy!
    I have some mixed feelings about this. I feel that it is a really clever idea, however, I feel that it might be a little overpowered to someone who doesn't have venom or flame sword. But, like you said the effect wears off after a few hits, maybe like three. If Rare were to add this, they would need to experiment a bit so it would be balanced. Altogether, I feel that it is an interesting idea.
