AMD crash "Make sure driver is upto date"

  • Is anyone out there having any crashes?

Just to explain, im using a BRAND new - 500gb SSD - windows 10 - there is nothing, and i mean nothing else on this SSD, except steam (rocket league, only game...no problems.), and discord.

Its completely upto date, brand new, nothing else tainting it in terms of bad drivers or anything else, pure clean.

When i first started playing sea of thieves, everything seemed fine enough, i dont recall any crashes.

Now however....im crashing almost repetitively....ive tried it all, reinstall game, try game on HDD, lower settings, switch off certain thing in the AMD catalyst, tuned everything down, still getting amd driver crash.

AMD just released a brand new driver last night again, downloaded it, tried again, just got a crash there within 15min.

Now - ive never used win 10 - im a win 7 guy, i specifically made the switch, for this game, as its something ive been wanting to play for a while now, and well....win 7 is becoming dated as of jan now so, might aswell roll with the times.

But these crashes are making thing very - tedious....especially as a solo player, this game is unforgiving, 1 crash, new progress.....everything lost constantly.

I have no other processes running in the background, i always close steam etc, just SoT runs, thats pretty much it.

But does anyone have any other problems as i am, or suggestions?

    Thank you.

  • Run another game that is equal or more demanding. Does it crash as well?

If not, open a support ticket. It is an SoT only issue.

    If so, check the following:
Voltages from power supply to the video card, if it is dipping/unstable from faulty power supply, it will produce failures like this. Use wattman.
RAM Modules, if multiple swap/remove some (keeping solo/pair). Eventhough it says AMD crash, it can also not be the card.

It is pretty safe to say, it is not your installation, as game completely loads, and you have tried 2 different drives.

Then open support ticket with your video card manufacturer if you can't detect the fault so far.

  • Could try restore you when it was working? I’ve only had problems with win10 and amd with quake champions tbh.

  • @dyfrin

Ok - Done a complete fresh install, this time, completely put it on the HDD - blanked the SSD , not a single crash in 3hours of playing...

Strange - iwant to say its my SSD - faulted perhaps....but its brand new from amazon, (Not that that makes a difference, i know it can still be faulted...) - but EVERY other game, steam game ive tried now, dayz/nomans sky/skyrim/rust - All work flawless on the SSD, bar SoT....strange one.

The microsoft store does have some .. issues with permissions, glad it got working for you!

I would still try to move to SSD due to respawn/load time benefits.
