Golden Skull Sails

The Black Friday Sails may return next year, but if you ask me; Rare should just keep them available permanently - makes no sense to make them exclusive.

I hope it never comes back. One of the things I like about this game is having something rare/unique. Especially when we spend money on it.

@targasbr I just don't think it's fair that me choosing to spend more time with family who I don't get to see very often due to school, caused me to miss out on something I'm willing to spend money on. Never have liked time limited cosmetics.

I can't blame you, I was with my family too. I entered on microsoft store on my cell phone and bought the sail. It didn't even take me 5 minutes and my family didn't judge me for it. But this is not the point here.

In a game where everything is cosmetic and the only thing that makes your character unique is cosmetic, it's nice to have unique items for a limited time. I have already lost some of these items, but I won't blame Rare for that, this is all my fault anyway.

I have to disagree on this. It is one thing for event tied items to be exclusive, no reason why paid items should be though. Nothing special about being able to buy an item during a limited availability period.

Completing something hard in-game (such as a fort with no crew deaths, or a TT in record time, or anything between) to earn an elusive reward is something brag-worthy.

Paying for something in a three day window is not. What’s worse is that these didn’t enter the emporium for those that had the spare coin. What happens if Rare does this more often as a result?

Cosmetics from storefronts should be available all year round, and not used in such a way to shoehorn people to “buy them or miss out”. This was a poor and greedy decision on Rare’s part.

You didn't have 3 minutes over a 4 day period to spend $8 on an internet store? Sorry man, but you missed the boat. Rare was very clear and provided very much information about the Black Friday Sails. They were sold on the basis that they would not be available to obtain again. I don't think it's fair that I buy something and then someone else can get it outside the time frame because they cried.
I hope you learned the lesson and will pay attention to buying the next time limited item.

Funny enough, they weren't very clear on this at all. I'm not one who sticks to my phone and when it was announced I wasn't on my phone. Only when I went back to watch the dev update did I find out about it.

I disagree, I've gotten every time limited cosmetic except for a few that I willingly didn't use my doubloons on. I feel like everyone should have the opportunity to receive items that they want, especially since there are constantly new players hopping into the game. There were plenty of times where I was using the Forsaken Ash skins and a new players were curious on how they could get their hands on it as well. Plus, this is something that people had to purchase with real money, a far cry from earnable event items.

I thought they said black market items were in a rotation?

Yeah the black market stuff is not time limited. Never has been. Content will eventually cycle in and back out, and back in, and back out. Duke was very clear on that to begin with.

I'm glad they did this, a lot of times especially rn with my finals and the holidays coming up, I rarely have time to play and I do want the forsaken ash canons eventually.

But you had the oportunity. This game is like most games, who have more time/money, get most items. Rare need to pay their bills, and this sail was the best marketing, 'cause some players like me, bought a item bought on impulse not to lose it.

Like you, I’ve the majority (if not all) time limited cosmetics. I have no problem with Rare making any of them available again for new players. It doesn’t hurt my gaming on the seas in the slightest.

That's extremely scummy on Rare's part then. Another game I like to play is Warframe which is a free to play. They have a ton of events and all of the cosmetics eventually become earnable again, it helps people relax and enjoy the game at their own pace.

Unfortunately I think Rare got tight and invented this story of selling things for absurd prices. Yes, absurd prices, especially in my country, where the currency costs less than 1/4 dollar. As the servers seem to be increasingly empty, they must be doing this to call new and old players, we can't blame them for that, after all, limited time items call players.

No no, the black market stuff (reskins and its other stuff) will rotate eventually, or come back in some form or another.

The time-limited commendation-based cosmetics will always be time-limited, and will never come back:
