You guys got really carried away with the lightning storms

  • I've been struck and killed by lightning like three times in 10 minutes. People don't get struck by lightning like this, it's ridiculous.

    That's all.

  • Everything else gets nerfed because newbs whine that the game is too hard. Now, lightning was buffed because newbs think the FotD is too hard.

I wish Rare would put the lightning back how it originally was. Keep the challenges in SoT.

  • @tahngarthor I don't know, what you got...I fished the other day in one storm 5 fish, could have been 7, but I got hut by lightning...and that's not that bad...put the sword away, so it doesn't hit you that often

It's not too hard it's just silly and annoying and unrealistic.
I mean, seriously, it just doesn't happen.
It would only be worse if it explicitly targeted you for wearing metal objects like in Zelda.

And I'm not a noob. There's good difficulty and bad difficulty. Bad difficulty is cheap, unavoidable deaths. Good difficulty is things t hat you can avoid or deal with by possessing the proper skills.

So don't be a jerk. There is no sign on the game or in the advertisements that says "balls to the wall hard, no noobs allowed." And under most circumstances, I think everything is balanced fine. The sharks, the ships that seem to appear out of nowhere, I don't mind any of that, because I can defeat them or avoid them. I can't avoid these random lightning strike deaths outside of heading in the other direction and praying.

"and that's not that bad...put the sword away, so it doesn't hit you that often"

Now, that would make some bit of sense if I was actually holding a cutlass or something metal, but I wasn't.

  • @tahngarthor they do on the sea of thieves

    So I noticed.

Like, I get it. Misfortune happens. Occasionally. Being repeatedly struck by lightning without doing anything that would make lighting more likely to hit you isn't fun. It isn't hard or a challenge either. It's just annoying. I meanthis game isn't a smulation, but certain things can take away from the "suspension of disbelief" that makes fantasy games work if t hey aren't set up in a believable way.

  • I dont suppose you were wearing the belt that increases the chances of being struck? I would check that

  • @tahngarthor btw if you are trying to fish in the storm, go to islands and stand knee deep in the water, then fish and you will be ok

  • @d4m0r3d said in You guys got really carried away with the lightning storms:

I'm not trying to fish, i'm not wearing any special belt that I'm aware of... I was just doing a treasure map. Walking around on an island looking for the treasure. No swordfighting, no fishing, no nothing. And yet I'm being repeatedly struck by lightning.

Hell I thought it was funny the first time it happened. After the third time though, not so much.

  • @tahngarthor
Read the description of the belt, there is one that was added for the FOTD it looks like an ordinary belt, but thats what you sound to be describing

  • @tahngarthor wait i never thought to ask, you are in a storm right? if youre just getting struck by lighten without a cloud in the sky then thats a problem, and not one i've ever heard of

  • Why is everyone, all of a sudden acting like lightning isn't insane now?

The other day I got hit twice in about 2 or 3 seconds and I died. I don't care so much about the strength of the lightning, which is now stronger because of fire, but I do care about how often players get struck now.

Two strikes causing a death (unless eating and/or splashing self with water) is fine. Being struck 10 times in 3 minutes isn't fine and it's new. In case some of y'all didn't know, lightning strikes are VERY, VERY common now, with the release of the FotD. It needs adjusted, no matter what someone is or isn't wearing/holding.

I'm not even asking for nerfs and I don't want to take away your precious "challenge." I'm mostly just venting, but feel free to ridicule everyone you view as inferior to yourself.

No, there was a storm. I'd seen lightning strike many times before, sometimes really close as well, but never three direct hits in such a short span of time like that.

    It's probably just exceptional luck.

You sure have a strange way of showing it...

Now, I get it. As I mentioned, if you have metallic gear equipped in Zelda: BOTW, you will be struck by lightning. All you have to do is remove the metal gear though and you're mostly safe. That's how it should be here. Unless you're holding something mainly metal in your hands, lighting strikes should be more or less random, not targeted on you like you're a lightning rod.

  • @tahngarthor lol it doesnt take long for a storm to pass, if you were just looking for gold why didnt you wait a few mins? or go do another one

@tahngarthor lol it doesnt take long for a storm to pass, if you were just looking for gold why didnt you wait a few mins? or go do another one

Because I really don't want to stand around and do nothing in a video game?

And also because if I just go afk and wait, I might get booted for inactivity, as this game barely gives you enough time to use the restroom before discconnecting you.

  • @tahngarthor well you are effectively moving around and subtracting progress with what you are doing so lol. also you dont have to stand around and do nothing, you can fish, or like i said, go to another island, and farm supplies/ treasure

And also because if I just go afk and wait, I might get booted for inactivity, as this game barely gives you enough time to use the restroom before discconnecting you.

truee. hardly gives you enough time to remove liquid from your body at a toilet (god the censoring is crazy on these forums). i have left to go get a drink of water and have disconnected for inactivity : (

  • @tahngarthor I agree with the OP. Fishing is a nightmare now. And, my crew and I were working on an island and we were constantly being struck - no sword out, nothing. We would have to race to shove food in our face to survive. I was killed when I was struck twice within seconds... I didn’t even have time to put food in my mouth. It’s stupid and should be returned to what it was.

  • @entspeak if you go knee high in water, while fishing, lighting doesnt hit you. so aslong as you are fishing from an island you should be good

  • @d4m0r3d Oookay. Good to know, but this doesn't address the issue. The intensity of lightning strikes is absurd and too much. They really should just make it so that if you have your sword up in a defend position while in a storm, you're more likely to get struck... preferably limiting it to being in the crow's nest. This way, people will still have the ability to opt in to being struck so that they can get their light and the rest of us can fish from our boats or do voyages on an island without being struck by lightning every few seconds. I was on Marauder's Arch and had to stop what I was doing, hide out in a tunnel, and wait for the storm to land on the island, reverse course, and go back over the island because the second I stepped out I'd get struck. Two lightning strikes and you die. And, as I may have mentioned before, I've been struck and struck again before I could get food in my mouth. It's stupid, it's not how lightning works, and, oh yeah, it's just stupid.

  • @entspeak yea i was just giving you a way to fish lol. honestly bro it wasnt hard to get struck by lighting before they buffed it, you would just weaken yourself and go to an island in the storm, when on land you always get struck. it was that easy, so yea i think the buff was unnecessary. they should just bring it back to what it used to be

  • I can't believe these posts are from a year ago and it still hasn't been fixed. The lightning should strike your position or your boat far less often than it currently does. As my man said, they are not lightning rods, and it causes deaths back to back in every storm that shows up.

  • Sheathe your weapons and you wont get hit.

Storms are more agressive in wilds.
But they are easy to navigate through. Just keep wheel straight and youll go through. Dont panic if your ship gets hit. Gondown and repair after more than 1 hole.

I pass through these solo on a brig.
You solo sloopers have no excuse for struggling.

  • @vexurayr ahoy! I love the lightning and how it’ll strike when you least expect it lol Also, as you’re commenting on a post that’s over 30 days old and deemed a necro i’m gonna have to drop anchor and lock it up tight. :P
