Star Wars type Sea Of Thieves game idea

  • I was playing Sea of Thieves with one of my friends the other day and got off to play the new Star Wars game and while I was playing I couldn't help but to think what an open world no story Star Wars game based on Sea Of Thieves would be like.

For example, in Sea of Thieves, you can sail the seas, take missions, get paid, or just explore, it doesn't have to be a full pack story mode game. My idea was, what if you could make a crew (like the main characters in Star Wars Rebels) in the Star Wars galaxy, and choose a role, you wanna be a Bounty Hunter? Okay! Jedi! Absolutely! Even a Sith would be amazing, or a Stormtrooper. Gameplay would be the same as Sea of Thieves but with space ships and outer space blaster battles, you would be able to explore new planets and upgrade armor and customize lightsabers to whatever you want them to look like, you could take missions from people (mainly a Bounty Hunter job) and get paid in credits and use those to upgrade your ship and get better armor, also, I think it would be insanely cool to have it where you don't have to stay with your crew unless your on a mission, you could split up if you want to find your own kyber crystal or even collect bounty's. You could go blow up star destroyers and take down Stormtroopers and even maybe the Death Star. If your crew wanted to lock you in the brig? Freeze them in carbonite! Also, as far as exploring planets goes, I would hope it would be exactly like Sea of Thieves, and you have to fly yourself or with a co-pilot, the planets would be huge and fully explorable like the Sea of Thieves map. All planets would be from the actual games, movies, comics and even some custom ones too. I don't know but just a thought I had haha. This game would be a blast and I'm sure me and my friends wouldn't ever get bored of it.

  • I feel like this thread would be better off in EA's forums.

  • @galactic-geek yeah it probably would, I just didn't know where else to post it, and kept thinking about it :/

  • Star Wars is garbage for little kids now that Disney owns them. Boycott Star Wars #BeMorePirate

  • Thread moved to Off-Topic section of the Forums as it is not directly Feedback/Suggestions for Sea of Thieves.

What!? Have you not seen The Mandalorian yet? It's amazing! And I get to relive so many of my childhood cartoons from over the years too! Disney might be the worst pirates of them all, but that's what makes them so amazing!

  • @galactic-geek Mandalorian is crazy good

  • Especially the new episode. I won't spoil, but it was the best yet by far, and I enjoyed the previous episodes too.

  • One of the greatest games I ever played was Star Wars Galaxies.

It’s amazing when I tell my kids about games like SWG, EQ, Ultima...they don’t believe me and think I’m lying/exaggerating cause they grew up in a world where everything was “Instanced” or separates by servers/lobbies with 12-64 player caps.

Hell kids today think Borderlands is a dang MMO!

  • Perhaps it would be difficult to manage a game like this with the Star Wars franchise, with legal concerns and getting Disney's approval.

However, it could surely be feasible in an alternate sci-fi universe, where basic tropes can be retained and extended into a whole new domain. Sea of Thieves uses generic ideas and brings them to life, over time building an actual story and world. In this manner it could be done with a (very) soft sci-fi game that has similar game play. Working from the ground up with a limited area, slowly growing with content and extensive features.

With world building for games like tabletop rpg's, fiction literature, and even really any story-based video game, the process is usually going outwards. If a supposed game like SoT were set in space, there are ways to add a lot from Star Wars without it being Star Wars. Supernatural abilities, an oppressive government or paramilitary group, pseudo aerial/space flight are some examples. The hardest part (in 'world' development) I would imagine to be setting boundaries that are explained in some way to contain the play area in the game (if the setting is in space).

The obvious downside for SW fans is the lack of SW content, mostly the directly correlating art and lore. But substitutes could be used or alternatives made, it is hard to know what is copyrighted though. With a game like SoT, but soft sci-fi, I don't imagine extensive background lore is even really necessary except to the level SoT has established its lore (or in a similar amount).

The music score should still be epic though ;p
