The thing about Sea of Thieves is it's a shared world. Solo has been designated as the 'hard mode' by Rare, but they added it anyways after the community clamored for it. It's going to be difficult, and you can't win every fight, so you have to learn to give yourself the advantage. Be it running in water too shallow for the ship chasing you while you board them with impunity to keep them distracted, laying a minefield around the island you're at to deter an incoming ram, or just turning for a shot before the enemy, you can strategize. You don't have the force advantage, and you won't always win, but that doesn't mean you can't win as is. Players have been doing it since release, after all.
Solo Only Servers
Absolutely, I have to play solo because none of my friends like the game and Randoms are the worst. It would be fine if you started a closed crew and were the captain then open it up and get your random and if they are absolute trash. Won’t talk or communicate then you could just boot them off your ship. I am so sick of playing alone and I run across pirate legends in a 3 or 4 man ship that hint me down and just straight troll me. I just got the white light in a storm not an hour ago I roll out of the storm and boom I get fire bomb soaked by a 4 man pirate legend crew. Nothing I can do I am so close to Permanently deleting this game
+1
Lol. I enjoy the peace of a nearly empty server. I hate that they tweaked server merges so I still get caught up in them even tho I NEVER drop anchor. Not gonna happen tho. Rare wants to force coop and pvp so bad, they're willing to sacrifice (I'd say) a good 1/3 of their playerbase trying to wedge into Esports and Streamers.
I refuse to budge tho. You'll pry my Solo Sloop from my cold dead (forum banned?) fingers first!
@darkghosto58 I use the open system at times and it is a gamble. RARE should work on it, yet it isn't the only tool to find crewmates.
Try out the LFG or a discord community, you can find plenty in the forum section designated for it. These do help with finding like minded people easier.
@cotu42 I’m a casual player and I’m not going and searching for people to play with on a message board. I just want to jump on and play if they fix the Randoms then I’d just open it up and if they are horrible then boot them and try again.
Sloop captains (and based on vote, brigs and galleys) deserve a kick option. Brigs and Galleys can at least brig trolls. But there should be a genuine kick option that is initiated by the captain. But maybe on Brigs and Galleys be able to be overridden by the crew in a mutiny vote.🧜🏽♀️
Y'all allow the same basic principle on alliances. 🤷🏽♀️
@darkghosto58 well you can, it is called server hopping and is what I do usually till I find a decent mate or two.
When using open crew:
- Don't pick galleon... just not worth it.
- Once in game say Ahoy.
- If they have stock or are supplying, that is a good sign
- If they talk, chat wheel, type back. That is a very good sign.
- Once on the seas evaluate if they are helping out.
- The most important thing is to talk to your crew and them being able to at least respond with aye and no. Just ask yes no questions in those cases.
If these things are not met, eject and recruit a new crew.
@cotu42
That's good open crew advice. The game gives you a ton of ways to communicate nonverbally.
Still think there should be a kick option. Now you see I can get behind this, this isn't a PvE server it's just a collection of servers for solo crews only.
I actually had the same thought when I first started playing. I do tend to find Solo captains are more willing to talk in game, creating more favorable crew to crew interactions.
People only seem to act out when in groups.
Again please note the OP isn't asking for PvE or Private servers, but more a server that matches solo crews.
I'm actually okay with the idea of this.
- Solo queue sounds better than Sloop queue. I feel like two people on a sloop ruins the idea of this.
- Not a giant fan of alliances when you are playing solo. I think alliances would break the idea of solo server.
The issue I sea arise from this is people will still complain about people sinking their ships. At least it would lower the amount.
This also breaks the game for playing with Brigs and Galleons. You would only see larger ships on those servers where currently I've taken on Brig/Gal duo on a sloop and won multiple times. As long as I still have the option to play on a sloop if I choose to it wouldn't be so bad.
Finally, this will put a strain on servers as it will be less people distributed on each server. Resources limitations remain the same so we would likely still be limited to 6 ships per server.
Solo servers are not a good idea.
Your complaint is about being killed by groups of players, however, most of the time groups of players let 1 person kill while the others raid the resources.
Additionally, pvpers like me will be almost unstoppable against most single players because we are already used to wrecking groups solo anyways. If you are a 2 man ship you at least have the option to swarm people like me but on a solo server I can promise you it'll be much much worse.
@itz-majman You're right it is my choice, but I'm not comfortable playing/talking with people I don't know.
It's awkward, and I just really don't like it.
Again, that's my problem, but I'm sure there are a ton of people who feel the same or have their own reasons for solo playing.I'm not here making demands, and I'm certainly not going to stop playing the game if Rare doesn't add this, it's just something I would like to see put into the game at some point.
If it happens, great! if not, I will just bite the bullet and do my best.
Same here but found a great crew through the game that's from the same country as i am and we play almost daily now so theres a chance for sure but it might take a while.
@davy-wood-beard playing solo has only gotten easier, please explain how it has gotten harder. i will tell you how it got easier,
AI spawns super easy for solo players, sloops only have to kill 3 tentacles for kraken, the meg gets killed in a very small amount of cannon hits and might get 1 or 2 bites in on you, skelly ships are not hard to deal with since we have cursed cannonballs, and fire balls, that just destroy them. and now we have fire balls that destroy bigger ships, the fire litterally does a good job at ballancing fights between smaller and big ships, it is pretty hard for a gally to put out fires, but pretty easy for a sloop to put fires out, so if you are bing boarded by a gally, just flame there ship, and they will have to go focus on that instead of you
