The Mermaid Crown
The Mermaid Crown is a simple but rare item, not worth much on its own, but it has a very unique gameplay property: an empty Mermaid Gem slot. The power of the Crown is that you can place any Mermaid Gem into this slot, and it will double the value of the gem. Once a gem is placed into the Crown, it cannot be removed.
The Mermaid Crown can have a range of different turn-in values based on which Gem is slotted into it. Possible values:
- Mermaid Crown (No Gem) - 500g
- Mermaid Crown (Blue Gem) - 2500g (500 + 1000x2)
- Mermaid Crown (Green Gem) - 3500g (500 + 1500x2)
- Mermaid Crown (Red Gem) - 4500g (500 + 2000x2)
Why is this a cool item?
- There is a progression aspect to it. Combine two treasure items to create an even “stronger” treasure item.
- It provides some interesting player choice. Do I put a blue gem in it now or wait till I find a red gem and make it even more valuable?
- It could encourage interesting battles and trades between players. “That crew has a red gem, lets attack them or trade for it so we can put it into our Crown.”
- Mermaid gems are cool because you can use them to level up any faction. The Mermaid Crown expands upon this concept and makes it even stronger.
