Xbox servers on arena are completely dead. I was wondering, does Xbox players have to turn the crossplay on just to get into a controllers only server? If so, no wonder they are dead. If you're a team of only Xbox players you should automatically get matched with other Xbox users. I can tell such a huge difference playing against PC players. I have no hate for them but I want it to be fair and making us go into an all player server every time I play sucks.
Crossplay on xbox
You'll probably find the game is more dead than just the arena.
Been taking a daily peep at my friends list, of once many a pirate, and now i rarely see anyone sailing the seas anymore..
Many Xbox users probably come to this game via gamepass, and there has been a wealth of new games added to that in the past few months to keep others busy.. It's what i have been noticing through my friends list, i'm also one of them, and i have been playing different games too.
I feel that too much energy has been spent on catering for streaming this year and little on the game itself. At what cost??@needsmokes I have noticed the same thing.
Although, most of my friends quit months ago.
I like the game just enough to check the forums from time to time, just to see what issues have been addressed.
Still waiting for a certain promise from the dev's to actually happen before I return.@stone0898 yeah the xbox only duo sloop seems to work fine for me at least this weekend I think I had more trouble finding a game in galleon version
Played Saturday & Sunday evening in duo sloop arena and had to play on the seas with all players as a friend wanted me to join her, and she plays on PC.
Had no issues whatsoever getting into matches at any point. And whilst we either won or come second in all but one match we entered, being, mostly a lone Xbox player on those servers was challenging at times, running away and avoiding combat was our goal as we soon realized close combat PVP was not our strong point, several reasons, she isn't great at it, and i was standing in tar swinging a sledgehammer around getting constantly murdered being totally useless. After playing on the Xbox servers for a long time, this was great to see the true disparity that exist, and so we kept our distance as much as possible and rained down hell from afar when we had too.
I did encounter an oddity during one match, where a player got aboard and caused a bit of trouble. As i sat overlooking my ghostly form on the ship, i would see in the final seconds before my respawn that player run to an area of the ship, and within seconds, without fail!! I would spawn in standing with my back to him and be killed instantly before i even spawned.. Hmmmm.. Something fishy. Anyway, after this happening with precision 5 times and much crossplay ranting later, i demanded we scuttle to get away from this.. I could offer nothing in response to this slaughter, not once did i even twitch before i was gunned down.. But we went on to beat them into 1st place regardless. Felt good!So whilst we had lots of fun using crossplay. I am still convinced that it needs to be optional across the whole game, and needs to be if this game has a chance of surviving much longer.
Many Xbox players are aware of how this is. And have left or will leave as a result of it.. Delaying it further and further will not help this game.
Perhaps this is why you believe the Xbox servers to be dead @J3LLyB1SHIn advance - this is not a crossplay rant.
I played loads of xbox only matches this weekend (roughly a 50% win rate) and a fair few mixed xbox/pc games (roughly a 10% win rate) The strategy you need to use as an Xbox player is hugely different depending on which type of server you choose. Running into a mixed arena and trying to get involved in close up fighting and boarding is going to end badly a large majority of the time, you need to be using a lot more tactical nous.
Personally I do prefer the Xbox only matches, as I get to play the game in the same way that a pc player does - going into the game in a lot more confrontational style and knowing that nobody in there has too much of an advantage over me.
@j3llyb1sh
Nope. You guys asked for the opt out, and this is what you get. There are some other issues too that cause long matchmaking. Pc players don't even have much(if any) of an advantage over us.Examples:
- fps doesn't have a large affect once you're at a playable level
- loading times are almost random, and the only way to improve them is with an ssd, which is available on Xbox too
- you can turn as fast as a m&kb player with max sensitivity
- accuracy with Xbox is enough as there are no headshots, and Xbox aim is better with cannons(or so I've heard, never played on pc for comparison).
@blazedrake100 I find it funny when people on Xbox suggest that there are not many advantages. Its obvious when you come across a pc player. I know within seconds if they are pc or Xbox. When it comes to close pvp its no contest as to who has advantages. It's not a single thing that makes all the difference its a combo of many small advantages that add up to the hugs advantage they have. There is a reason. Why there are cross play threads daily. We as Xbox players are sick of the pc advantages.

Actually, i've played with Xbox players who move indistinguishably from PC players.
When you say it's "obvious they are on PC", that suggests to me that you wont even bother to check their platform just to be sure, you just go "oh i don't even need to check, they obviously PC, rofleez.". :P
Please stop spreading misinformation and anti-pc propaganda. Everyone is getting sick and tired of it.
The fact of the matter is, Xbox players can also use keyboard and mouse, this fact alone, nullifies ALL arguments for anti-crossplay/xbox-only servers.
They have access to the same performance we do, therefore, there are no valid complaints. End of story.
@sweltering-nick nice assumption buddy. I usually check the recent players list to affirm my assumptions. 99% of the time I am correct when I think its a pc player.
Sure xbox can use m/kb. However we dont have the same setting support as pc does. Our frames are locked to 30. Many play on tv and therefore refreash rates are usually slower.
It's not a debate. Pc players have an advantage.
@sweltering-nick
You probably are a PC player and I would advise you to play with a controller for a few hours while doing PvP, that's if you're good at the game. Not all PC players are good but the majority of them are. In arena against Xbox players (I get lucky when I finally find a server) our team will win 100% of the time, the people I play with are great players.... but we're Xbox so that will only get us so far. I just feel like winning on an all player server is difficult. They should really make all Xbox users automatically connect with other Xbox users. You should have to turn ALL players on instead of the other way around. That's how it should work so there would be more Xbox servers. This is great!
This is exactly what xbox players were asking for. sayin that crossplay would not affect game play.
you guys wanted to be xbox only now you got it so deal with it, lol
oh btw it will just get harder and harder to find people to play with in the months to come with even more games coming out.
this is just a free game and will only attract casuals so good luck have fun.
roflmao there are so many people that said this exact post would happen after xplay options.
I'm not sure if you have been paying attention to the forums much, but whilst this thread is here, there have been countless more threads of a similar nature from PC players struggling to find arena matches.
So yes, we have opt out.. And to be honest, not many even cared for it in the arena to begin with. It's adventure it's wanted most. However we dont have the same setting support as pc does.
High graphics is a luxury, not a necessity.
Our frames are locked to 30.
guess what, 30 frames per second is all you need, any higher is, yet again, a luxury, not a necessity.
Many play on tv and therefore refreash rates are usually slower.
There are gaming TV's with the same performance as PC monitors, actually, Linus Tech Tips (on youtube) featured one of those TV's a while back, made by Nvidia if i remember correctly... Here's a link:
If you want the best gaming experience on console, you gotta put in the money to have it... Just like PC players do.
PC players have to buy each component of their gaming setup separately... Coincidentally, Xbox users have access to SSD upgrades, and also gaming TV upgrades.
You could argue with Microsoft themselves, to allow the console to use 1080p mode instead of forcing 4k mode, that will give you the 60 fps luxury you always wanted.
Yet again, i tell you, there is no valid argument for PC vs Xbox... there used to be, in previous generations, but the current generation of Xbox, and any subsequent generation i would imagine, will have capabilities equal to that of PC players.
The gap between PC and Console, has closed, mate... There is no actual different between them anymore...
It's not a debate. Pc players have an advantage.
Correct, there is no debate, because neither of them have an advantage... Xbox's ARE PC's. None had advantage over the other, because they are the same. :P
You probably are a PC player and I would advise you to play with a controller for a few hours while doing PvP
I don't have to, i can just plug the Keyboard and Mouse from my PC, into my Xbox, and use my Xbox as a PC. Why would i bother using a controller? I have no practice with controller. :P
@j3llyb1sh why would I want to play with all xbox players? I bought a crossplay game and plan to play a crossplay game.
they should just remove the opt out.
xbox player here.
I probably played more arena this weekend than at any other point since it's introduction. The first few matches we didn't "opt out" of crossplay while we were trying to figure out how to and the rest we did. I didn't notice any difference in load times or finding crews using either option.
That being said the the xbox with controller only preference arena games were much, much more enjoyable and more competitive for myself and my shipmate. We only ended up in one game with a sloop with 2 PC players that won pretty handily after we opted out but for the most part it seems that opting out offers Xbox players a lot more parity.
We are looking forward to it's introduction into adventure.
I played Arena in the Galleon - Xbox w/ Controller lobbies in hope that the Double Gold/XP Weekend would entice Xbox players to give Arena a shot. In the evenings (U.S.) on Friday - Sunday, we played 25-35 matches. Our first several attempts at matchmaking with Cross Play opt enabled, we waited numerous minutes only to be dropped into ALL PLAYER lobbies. Finally, we were dropped into an Xbox lobby. Every match played, we'd finish, drop back into the lobby, and we'd server merge only to play the same exact players we played the match before. I believe there was a string of 6-7 matches where the player list never changed. It seems either not many people utilize the Xbox crossplay option or the matchmaking needs some significant tweaks. It's hard to believe only 20-24 Xbox players played Arena this weekend.
As an aside comment, teams with Open Crews can really hang a lobby causing a SEVERE delay in match starting. Players will get fed up with the wait and quit, only causing further delays in match starting. Please fix the lobby starts and matchmaking !!!
@sweltering-nick hahaha. 5k for a tv. Thats what it takes to allow the Xbox player to match a pc? As well as 75-175 dollars for an ssd, another 50-200 dollars for m/kb. Not to mention a desk to comfortably use said m/kb. The reason most Xbox players bought an Xbox over a pc is price point. We dont all have $1000 plus to spend on games.
When I mentioned settings it wasn't about graphics.. It was about the mouse settings. We only get a simple slider.
hahaha. 5k for a tv. Thats what it takes to allow the Xbox player to match a pc?
... Yes, that's the price of my PC setup... 5500 for the high tier gaming PC, 164 for the PC monitor, 109 for high quality mouse, and another 109 for high quality keyboard, and then 80 dollars for a computer desk, a really cheap and horrible one i fully intend to replace very soon with a 328 dollar frostfire bench i believe it's called.
If you want quality, you need to pay the bills... Simple.... as.... that. :3
Console players are not an exception to this fact of life, deal with it... If you want to cheap gaming setups, then you have to deal with cheap quality performance. : /
You see, your complaint has nothing to do with the nonexistant unfairness between PC and Xbox, what you are ACTUALLY complaining about, is that you don't have the money to buy the gaming setup you want...
The reason most Xbox players bought an Xbox over a pc is price point. We dont all have $1000 plus to spend on games.
I rest my case, have a good one! :)
@sweltering-nick thanks for making the case for optional cross play. No need to run a civic (xbox) vs a lambo (pc)
@iii-porker-iii We're talking about luxury quality here, not necessities, as determined, in one of my earlier comments.
Don't be delusional, nobody made your case here. : /
@sweltering-nick sure you did. You clearly made the case that you have a superior rig and the only way for me to compete is to spend the extra money. When in reality rare should have had a crossplay opt out from the beginning. Even a mid tier pc will out perform an Xbox. So give xvox players the ability to play on an even playing field. All cross play games give the option and sot should be no different.
@iii-porker-iii sigh
https://i.gyazo.com/871d0eb0b540f0bf893886a0dea823b2.pngNo, i did not.
Mate, just because your brain is performing acrobatic displays of fallacies, doesn't mean reality changes to match your perception of it.

No, i made the case that if you want the luxury of high quality performance, you have to spend quality money.
Even a mid tier pc will out perform an Xbox.
Wrong again, the Xbox literally IS a mid-tier PC, it performs equal to... Mid-tier PC's. :P
All cross play games give the option and sot should be no different.
@j3llyb1sh arena has always been pretty dead but if you turn cross play on you will get matched with pc players regardless of input
@iii-porker-iii every game I play with cross play outside of this game and Forza offers optional cross play fortnite, rocket league, modern warfare, pubg, paladins all have it as optional but rare are still dragging there heals with this makes them a pretty bad developer and in my eyes
@sweltering-nick where can I get an xbox with the same performance as my $3k gaming rig?
I had no idea that xbox mouse and keyboard just made PC gaming obsolete.@captgraykid
https://i.gyazo.com/6019ca8f5b2240173949482574d2cdaf.pngSeriously? Just edit your original comment to add whatever you missed, don't doublepost like that.
- Are you implying your 3k USD gaming rig is a mid-tier PC? Rofl. xD
That's 27 000 Nok... You are in the middle high-tier.
My current gaming rig is 5500 usd, i'm in the upper high-tier. :P
On a budget, you can easily get a gaming rig that can barely handle 4k gaming for roughly the same price as you can get an Xbox One X... So yeah, mid-tier PC.
- There was no debate, i was trying to show him/make him aware of, his delusions.
@j3llyb1sh game was originally crossplay that should be the default setting and if people fail to check the settings thats on them no reason to force people into opt out crossplay and flip the switch
@sweltering-nick lol you just commented on a friends post about how you've never even played arena before and you feel like you have the right to comment about these things. The reason why PC people love Xbox is because you know we don't stand a chance against you and it makes you feel like you're actually good at the game but really it's because we can't play the same, even if we have a mouse and keyboard. You'll argue like you do on every other thread with this topic but we all know the truth.
