Raider of the Damned - Commendation

  • So I was happy last week to receive my Raider of the Damned commendation when I did my 50th run of the new FotD.

I am curious how many of you here on the forum have done that fifty times already and do you have any stories of that adventure? I know I do.

One night I was on (when I got most of my completions), I was with a 5 ship alliance, the entire server was on. They wanted to do the fort on repeat all night. However, the guy who organised it didnt want to sell the loot until the end. 20 Athena chests, reaper chests for days. it was a bad idea.

9 - 10 hours of grinding, pushing, skeleton killing and graymarrow slaying. We got a whole bunch to show for our work.

But then at the end, my internet decides its time for a a reset. Me and my wife get kicked off for 20 minutes for that reset. We come back, the entire server was betrayed and one ship took all the loot.

I will be salty about this for the next ten years lol but its a good story... so I got that out of it right.... right....!

    Whats your FotD Story?

  • How the actual **** have you done 50? I cant complete 1!

Every time we try to alliance and help we just get attacked and sunk. The one time we did it ourselves from scratch wasted a couple hours setting up with the lights, skull etc then when we started the fort a galleon turned up and killed/sunk us.

Literally find it impossible to complete 1 never mind 50. I need to join you in your games 🤣

  • My FoTD story is I dont need to make a TLDR brag post

  • Don't like the pvp aspect so I haven't touched the fort other than to tourist it and leave. Mine will likely stay 0/50 🤷🏽‍♀️🧜🏽‍♀️

  • @Bigtorvol

Completed the fort once, as there is no time limit on this I will not be rushing it.
I have lots of other stuff to do whilst others are distracted. :)

    Btw... congrats on the 50.
That is a commitment and a half. Seriously.

Although I have to admit I have mixed thoughts about it.
I'm glad that others are getting so much enjoyment out of it.
There is enough in the game for all, regardless of play-style, the size of your crew ( solo or not ).
I just get on with... the other stuff.... the journey continues.

    edit:

I'm sure there are a lot of great stories out there, and although I haven't jumped in feet first to the whole event.
I have watched some great gameplay on youtube, and have actually enjoyed watching other peoples adventures (mostly AlactarGaming... btw).
The fort certainly has livened things up :)

With great difficulty. I did a whole week everyday for about 9 - 10 hours at a time.

It was painful to do but it was fun to get the 50 in the end. Felt worth the grind.

There are many ways to go about getting it and i think a lot of people are overlooking the real depth of the fort.

Its not just a pve fort with good loot.

If you look at what the devs have done they have made a situation where you have to be cautious and smart about how you approach it.

Normal forts you go there, kill waves and then take the loot and sell. If a player comes by you sink them or team up.

    Lets look at FotD.

The fort has been somewhat advertised as an alliance zone, you are meant to try and alliance with others to shorter the time it takes to do it. But there is a big risk.

1 athena (which crew gets it), reapers (who takes those when the whole map can trace you), 4 mega kegs? Will the other team blow up your ship, will you keg them? Or will one crew make you take them so you take all the risk?

Its put together very precise so that these interesting interactions happen.

What makes SoT great is the risk. The threat of not knowing who might do what. And so it forces an element of paranoia between crews. That it what makes this fort great. That crew could be genuine and want to help, or it could all be a ruse.

Issue I find is most players are too trusting and make bad plays because they dont observe the depth of what is in front of them.

yea take those 4 kegs and get 20k, is that a genuine offer or is it a play to take everything else you take?

  • I have been to the FotD once.

I was playing the hurdy gurdy and watching my skelly bird dance(not where I was going) and suddenly cannonballs starting hitting me.
I realized I was at the fort and under attack from a brigantine.
I fought, killed one of them, got killed, respawned on my heavily damaged sloop and jumped off, swimming to the fort.
I killed one more then gunpowder kegged a sloop as it passed over me.
Unfortunately I was still holding the keg.
    I had a blast!
    It was fun.
At some point I will join a crew and do it properly, but now I shall purposefully solo attack a fort in progress just for fun.

  • @bigtorvol I have mine and about 35 of them are stolen from server hopping.

I would never have that amount of time to play, I work full time, have a dog that needs walking a wife that needs feeding etc.

Also, why is 'who takes what' relevant when the money is shared equally?

Also, when everybody gets paid the same, why do people feel the need to betray their alliance when they have nothing to gain from it?

  • After finishing several only to find out Rare was aware of the proc bug, and refused to retroactively award comms, 0. You can get bent with that one Rare.

Not interested in spending any more time on that setup

  • @scrubber89 I have one word for you "pirate"

You have a life thats fine, we all have different allotments of time to play.

As for why is who takes what relevant. No money is not shared equally. Alliances dont pay out 50/50 and you have to take into account commendations also. If I have 29 athena chests to hand in for a commendation and I need 30, and another crew takes the athena, I dont get that towards my commendation. As I said in my post, depth people keep overlooking.

We dont get paid the same, and as for betraying alliance, because it makes the game interesting and people play differently in this game. Some people you trust and some you dont.

Alliances dont share the dough? What exactly do they do then?

  • @scrubber89 Loot is not shared equally 50/50,

yes alliances do get money but its not a 50/50split, there is more to gain by 1 handing the loot in while in the alliance, or taking all the loot. There is a good post on reddit that went over this.

    I will link it here -> https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/93htpv/psa_how_alliance_and_loot_sharing_works/

If I am not allowed this link, I apologize moderators and will edit if necessary.

  • @bigtorvol my FotD story... I helped you getting to 50! :)

  • @kraken-slap I remember your name but can't place you. Was that with bob?

  • @bigtorvol I can't remember any of the other crew mates, I know that you joined me from my LFG post though.
