Toxic players

  • At what point do the SOT developors take action against a toxic player. Case in point, last night while doing an athenas on an open crew 1 suddenly found myself with only 1 crew member on a galleon. People had joined and left along the way, and we had finsihed 3/4 of the athenas when 2 new players joined our boat. We were parked at krakens falls doing the skeletons and immediately upon loading in he begins to harpoon the land and pull the ship up as far as he could putting numerous holes in our boat. I voted to brig as did the 1 other player, but the other new guy was apparently his friend. So in order to stop the harpoon i anchored us. At this point i began to stream so i could catch his bad behavior. 2 min later he aquired a mega keg from a skeleton and took it below deck. Did the rolls and deck laughing 5 times and boom. All sunk all loot lost. I got it clear as day on the stream. I just finsihed writing the ticket. My question is this. Is this considered toxic play? And if so why do the developers keep allowing them to play their game? Ive written a few tickets previously in cases like this, but whenever i check to see if those people are sailing, they still are.. Does reporting this even do anything or am i wasting my time?

  • People like that are the worst! I've had the same happen but I soloed a whole athena in open crew (huge mistake) just to get a toxic player who was in my game 5 mins and took my athenas and jumped off boat to tell me this game isnt "sea of friends" ... waste of my 2 hours ....

  • Imo, if these players are caught in video there needs to be some type of punishment... now I've done some shut before but that's because trolls will join my game in open crew and if they pss me off enough I'll throw all MY LOOT off the ship and log but I also spent the time gettin the loot not them

  • @lt-josh84 Behaviour like this is unacceptable but if you don't want it I wouldn't do open crews, people tend to be bad and soloing can sometimes be better. I would be up for some Athena's if you ever need a crew member though.

  • It's all your fault.. you stepped into bullet fire and now complain you got hit? 'Cause that's what OPEN CREW is... in 1 out of 100 games you will find someone nice who will make it to your friend-list, the rest will be utter disappointment. To me anyway, but I'm an elitist, so that's understandable.

  • I'd say yes, what you do to other crews is for the most part fair play, however its different when its your own crew. That being said, open crews is a mess, with this behavior being expected. It shouldn't be expected, but it still happens.

    That is not his fault!
Sailing in an open crew do not allow anyone do that why do you blame the OP
Playing with noobs or players who dont listen is one thing but afk players and those who sabotage your ship are breaking the rules and deserve to enjoy a fat perma ban.

  • Toxic maybe/yes.
That is unacceptable to do to fellow crew mates.

Its not the Dev fault for allowing, they cant stop everyone or prevent one pirate who was top of his game at one point to suddenly decide to login one time and bomb a random crew ship for the "Lulz"

So dont blame Rare, they are trying but its one of those things you can't 100% prevent.

After thousands of sessions I played in SOT I learned that OPEN CREW is the least enjoyable option of them all exactly for the reasons he has stated.

If you wanna play open crew you HAVE TO have the majority on the ship (3 on gally, 2 on brig) so that you can always brig that one troll that may join and try to screw you and you MUST NEVER allow strangers to invite their friends... This is the rule that prevents all struggles... if you don't follow this rule you are bound to suffer the consequences eventually and your choice is your fault.

It's all common sense, you have to be strict and rule with iron fist. Good people won't mind your strictness and trolls will have no room to troll... I also love to brig trolls and fill the bottom deck with water so they keep drowning over and over again while in the brig until they leave.

  • @lt-josh84 I mean it was trolling unfortunaly it happens sometimes

    aye it does

  • @LT-JOSH84 Report the player and submit the video as well. That's absolutely actionable griefing. Devs asked for this type of behavior to be reported as it's only purpose is to troll their own crew. Player most likely has more than one report on it too.

  • @closinghare208 right. But it shouldint. My question is does writing a ticket make an difference at all?? (With clear proof obviously)

  • @smokintediz do you know if rare bans them or punishes at all? Is it worth writing a ticket?

  • Would also like to know of its worth writing tickets on? Does rare have any guidelines on consequences and if we should spend the time writing the ticket.

  • Please write tickets on this behavior, especially if you have recorded proof to go with it. They have no idea who to discipline if you don't report it. No one likes to be trolled by their own crew mate. What happened here is one of the few real ways to grief someone in the game.

  • Never play open Crew.

Use the LFG and talk to them before inviting them. No 100% guarantee but it really helps!

I’ve been sunk and trolled more by my own “Crew” mates than any other ships!

They get what they deserve, Rare has said on multiple developer updates that they have taken action against trolls and griefers.

I don't think you get email confirmation of this, but just know, Rare does their job, as long as there is enough evidence behind the reports.

Video evidence, i do believe are conclusive, though i cannot speak for Rare and their process.

Verbal abuse, racism, and sexual taunting are punishable offenses.
    Video evidence is undeniable, right?

In hindsight, you and your crewmate should have looked for friends after the last player left, or closed the crew and continued with just the two of you.

i don't know i think not but i hope it does

  • @bumbumbac I agree with 100% but that is not an answer, open sessions are awful most of the times you play with people with zero communications skills or a kid with a mic in his mouth but your friends arent going to be online ALL the time and there are rules against this kind of behevior.
He need to report them and hopefully they will learn a lesson with a temporary ban for two weeks and next time perma ban.

  • @lt-josh84 yes that is toxic behaviour, your crew are supposed to be your true allies in this game. Especially dealing with open crews, one should not stand for this. Therefore yes, reporting them is worth it as this will have Rare look into this person and take the appropriate action.

Will this affect your current session, sadly no as this type of investigation takes longer than that. Yet be assured that the ban hammer does fly whether it is for a couple of days to a permanent one... all depends on the severity and how often they are reported.

This I believe is not a good thing for the community. The open crew system really needs some work, however it should be a option. To be honest I use it fairly often and if you pick a Brig/Sloop it isn't all that bad. Galleons... open crew? Just seems to be the place where all trolls go, most likely as it is harder to get them brigged quickly.

I personally don't like LFG, as people demand that you use the xbox party, which means everyone including myself has an open microphone. I am not alone in the house and I do not want to be broadcasting everything that happens in my household to strangers on the internet. They should really provide a push-to-talk setting.

Your Mic don’t have a mute? Mine mutes when I put the mouth piece in the up position.

There are also some sliders that help. Like how sensitive the background noise can be detected.

(I got a sheet storm at my house too! Wife, kids, dogs, cats, you name it!)

I get what your saying but I’ve played enough to know you can’t have a good session unless everyone has a mic. I literally purchased the Mic/Headset for this game.
