Fort of the Damned idea

  • How about instead of being forced to get all 6 lantern colors (considering some are based on pure luck and are just annoying to get to begin with) 1 lantern is required to start the fort plus the ritual skull and then every lantern lit after that before the fort is activated, determines the forts difficulty. So each lantern lit will add an extra 3-5 waves before the final fight and also each lantern lit will also determine what loot spawns in the vault as well as rarity.

For example, 1 lantern lit will only be 5 or so waves, but it will yield the worst loot in the game and not a lot of it, and if you light all 6 lanterns you get the current loot (maybe 2 Athena chests) but your also doing 30 or so waves of skeletons plus the boss fight.

This would allow people to actually complete the fort and complete the legendary commendation for it in a timely manner, but also tempt the greedy pirates on the sea with all 6.

First, the process of getting the lantern colors makes for an interesting time of trying to get them, rather than 'let me go kill myself on a skeleton and then we'll farm the FotD'. That will make it worthless, since getting all six flames is a challenge, and it's the challenge chosen for a reason, alongside the ritual skull quests. As for adding another chest of legends, that's a horrible idea, since it'll just devalue them further than they already are.

  • @ultmateragnarok getting the lantern colors is far more annoying that anything because it takes so damn long to do. especially when you spawn on golden sands and you have to make your way over to devils roar for a lantern flame, its stupid, not challenging. now making the lantern flames dictate the actual difficulty of the fort and the loot is an actual good idea. Forcing players to off themselves in 6 different ways for a lantern is just tedious and annoying.

  • @kin6-nothin6

It's meant to be difficult. The white flame is regarded as the hardest one to get, and it was made easier (though lowering yourself to under 20 health and waiting next to the wheel wasn't difficult for players who knew the game, newer ones didn't know to do that. The sword thing was nice, though). While sailing to the Devil's Roar, you can stock up resources for the actual battle and inevitable player intervention, have someone jump at an island to die to skeletons, another to die to a snake, and another into the water for sharks, while someone goes out on a rowboat into the storm or to a player ship. That'll certainly speed it up, and once you've reached the Devil's Roar, you don't have to wait long for one of the many volcanoes to start up.

It's supposed to be challenging. It's not supposed to be easy. People complaining about making these kinds of things easy are the reason the PvE aspect of the game has dried up.

If you don't like the lanterns, steal forts from other people. That's what I've decided to do after my first attempt.

  • What's the purpose of an easier fort if we have actually easier forts? I don't think it is needed to make this fort easier. If someone thinks it is too difficult, has a lot of activities to do like the other forts.

  • does no one understand the actual idea? their have been tons of complaints over doing this fort 50 times with the amount of time it takes to even get ready for it. getting the lanterns is NOT challenging, its tedious and boring. stop trying to say that its meant to be challenging when its not.

The idea is using multiple lanterns to increase the difficulty of the fort. if you want to team up with other crews and light all 6 for max difficulty, then be my guest. if you want a moderately difficult fort, then light 3 or 4. if you just want the legendary commendation and be done with it, then light 1 and finish it. but the loot you get is determined by the difficulty of the fort.

  • The white color might sound like the hardest one to get, but actually its the pink one... as usually most player ships ignore or just try to flee from you. :/

  • I look at this as Sea of Thieves version of a real raid similar to Wow or Destiny. Which is what this game needs. This fort and those 50 completions are not time limited. They will remain in the game.

This is my opinion but it sounds like you tried to solo sloop this and you got destroyed after spending time collecting lights.

In a galleon crew you should be able to gather the lights and a skull in about 30 minutes. This feels like how a raid should work. You collect the “keys” to unlock the “dungeon” then enter. Then there are fight mechanics to defeat the enemy. The only difference is it’s a shared world. Which is a Sea of Thieves spin on raids I feel.

I mostly sail solo and have not attempted the fort solo. If sailed by to check it out but I’m only attempting this thing with a dedicated crew.

Also sailing across the map is a great way to collect resources for the ship battles you’ll face. And to have a person fish to collect food to get a over heal for the crew. That’s how a good crew operates by managing their time to maximum potential. Not standing around and holding a “sniper rifle” while the sails are never in the wind.

Sounds like inexperience to me here.

There it is, there’s the sentence I was looking for.

Just asking for easier ways to do the fort so that you can complete a long term goal in a shorter period of time... (not even a time limited goal, mind you)

This is why there aren’t a lot of meaningful goals in this game - people keep asking for things to be easier and higher value and Rare listens to that nonsense for some unknown reason...

  • @chronodusk they listen probably due to Microsoft telling them make it easy for the kiddies “we need to compete with fortnite”. That’s why they pushed for a pay with real money store and added arena. Kids attention spans last about fifteen minutes and they like bright colors.

1 1/2 years into this games life and there’s still bugs that are blatantly obvious and they make new ones with each patch. I wish instead of nerfing encounters or changing difficulty they focused on polish.

What planet do you come from? Games are getting easier and easier and do you really think they would increase it?
Sadly if they make some change, it will be to make it easier.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 yea, 4500+ hours is total inexperience. I don't solo sloop and refuse to play this game on anything other than a brig unless im just messing around. I've down fort of the damned on nothing but an galleon, and getting the lanterns feels more like a chore than anything.

  • @chronodusk does not matter if its a time limited goal or not. 50 completions is asking a lot for a fort that takes 30+ minutes just to activate, even then your not even guaranteed to complete said fort or even get the completion if the fort is stolen which does nothing but deter people from actually doing it. For those that just want to get the commendation and be done with it, this would be a good idea as it would make it easier for them to get the commendation and move on doing something else. For those who want the challenge, nothing is stopping you from gathers all 6 lanterns (regardless of how long that takes) and maxing the difficulty of the fort and doing it as it was intended.

  • @ghostfire1981 I've actually found pink to be fairly easy to get. all you have to do is board a ship, attack them once or twice and they will kill you. white however is based solely on luck, which could be anywhere from 30 seconds, to 10 minutes.

  • Why wouldn't additional lanterns decrease the difficulty instead of increase it? This way at least you are rewarding players who put more effort into collecting all the lanterns and not the lazy ones who would just speed through using a single lantern.

  • This Fort gives out the highest payout in the game, giving experience of nearly all factions, including Athena. I expect a little bit of tedium. The Athena Chest alone has a voyage that can take some people more than an hour.

194 days at sea x 24 hours in a day comes out to 4656 hours played. Do you sleep???

  • The design or “concept” or whatever you call it is for the entire server (or lots of other people) to be collecting and lighting lanterns.

Once they lit they stay lit! Hit the FOTD first sometimes you only need 1 or 2 lights or just the Skull

  • @kin6-nothin6
White is easy to get if you do what is best for it: stand next to the wheel, the most commonly struck place, with your cutlass out at low health from jumping off of the mainmast a few times. Though, chasing down the storm, that can take time. As for doing the FotD with less lights, you can keep them on your ship and do several ritual skull voyages, and do it back to back. Doesn't require you to find the lanterns every time.

    @D3ADST1CK
The best way to punish lazy players who want to speedrun it is to just not let them use only one lantern. You can get all 6 colors very quickly if you know what you're doing.
