Why is there no way to report AFK in game

  • Im sick of joining crews to have 1 or 2 people afk spinning for hours either on ship or in the death boat. there should be an in game report feature and rare should take action against repeat offenders

  • You need to report them using the Xbox app.

  • Does this really happen as often as people suggest here on the forums?

The people who complain on the forums likely use Open Crew, and don't use the official Discord to find worthy crewmates.

  • @zappiboi Check out this article on the best way to report a player.

I genuinely do not understand how people can play this game on open crew. I've never once had a pleasant experience in this game with open crews. Its either an AFK spinner, someone who joins and TNT's the ship, people who don't wanna sail, someone who demands we sell loot when we only have one chest on board, someone spamming music or something annoying into their mic, the list goes on and on.

Xbox LFG, Forums, or Discord are such better ways to find people to play with. Or if you're a streamer playing with viewers is a good way to meet people too. Hell even twitter or facebook is probably better then open crews.

    That's wrong though.

I've LFG'd plenty of times crewing up to have everyone with mics and talking only to have a guy go on mute and start spinning partway through athenas. Just so they could set it up to afk

They're usually like.. athena 6+ too, so makes you wonder how many chests people like that have actually contributed towards.

It's surprising that we're a year in with no way to combat this still.

As someone who played in the alpha and beta and since launch i can say I have used the open crew quite a few times. And its a mix bag of really good players and then the really toxic PC better/Xbox for life crowd. I have met quite a few really decent people using the open crew that not only knew what they were doing but were the nicest of people. So yes it is possible to use the Open Crew menu button and get a good crew...just not on galleons i have better luck with brigs.
As For @ZappiBoi Is that common? I dont think i have ever met someone who has done that. not intentionally I have had people go AFK cos you know duty calls and all that. What ship(s) do you typically open crew with? As i stated above i have better luck with Brigs. I hope this helps at least a little

  • I also find this really irritating :(.

  • @blam320 i shouldnt have to exit game to report someone thats just silly and lazyness on the side of rare

  • @ionei-falcon so i need to leave game to fill out a form instead of just having a slider in the crew section of the game that's the official way of doing it? can you remind me of another game that doesn't have a report feature in game go ahead ill wait.

  • @zappiboi

You can use the Xbox App and check "recent players" or just use the the offical page to report someone which you can do here

  • @itz-majman the question of the post wasnt where do i report someone it was why isnt there an in game option why do i have to leave game to do it? can you tell me another multiplayer game that forces you to alt tab to report someone?

  • @zappiboi

How long does it take to go to recent players and just click on their name to send a report?

Most non-competive online games doesn't feature a report button

  • @itz-majman and whats so hard about the devs putting in a slider? and you still didnt name one fyi

  • @itz-majman On top of that with a "competitive" arena mode coming out soon this should be a huge priority for them

  • @zappiboi

I can make a huge list of games that doesn't have one but that's not the point here, it's super quick to report someone already so why add a extra button? sure it would be nice i guess but tabbing out and just go to recent and you have all the names there is super easy already

  • @itz-majman then name one cause thats all i asked for not a list bud i dont think you actually can though otherwise you would have

  • @zappiboi Apex Legends

  • @surveyorpete

I see someone on the FotD almost every time I’m on. I report them every time if gameplay situation allows.

    It is surprising.
I know there have been some suggestions to combat this.
Imo an AFK timer that allows the crew a vote to kick the player out of game or keep them would work. With a stronger afk detection, looking for "stuck" inputs, or repetitive motions via scripts, it could be dealt with, and the false positives won't matter if the crew can keep them.

If my friend has to afk for 15 mins here or there, I want them kept on. If a random does for even 5 minutes, I don't.

  • I play dual accounts on a sloop and always have one spin. I drop low level voyages with the noob account and complete them quickly with my main. I do it on a sloop as to not interfere with other players. I’ve been boarded a few times and I’m sure people were wondering what was going on, but I was not interfering with anyone else’s experience.

I think rare should of made it to where you could buy any level voyage at anytime, but that’s not how the game is set up. It’s hard to finish those OOS voyages when you play solo at lvl 50.

  • @itz-majman yeah funny that people have been complaining about there not being one in game and multiple articles from gaming sites have said that there needs to be one its almost like you'r proving my point that in a game with a queuing system there needs to be a way to report cheaters IN GAME. heres a quote directly from Respawn.

This may not be the best system to report cheats and Respawn have acknowledged this. In a lengthy update from the Apex Legend developers, they said, in regards to cheating: "Even if you don’t get proof, get their ID and flag it and we can investigate the account. We have heard your feedback about a report feature in the game. I’ll just say that’s a very good idea"

I'm finding I need to "reroll" an OpenCrew maybe 10x before finding a quality one.

Agree that I've seen all the aforementioned problems, but sometimes you do get lucky inserted into great crews in fortunate situations.

Last night on first roll, got inserted into a galleon crew with 2 legends where we were 1 island away from finishing an Athena, and then we cranked out a fresh one in less than 2 hours.

But I could easily spend 45 minutes a session sifting through boats that are aimlessly docked with the crew missing, or insane players who are happy-happy-boom-boom.

My least favorite open crews are the ones that are "setups", as in: Hey none of us are really experienced, let's grind really hard ,turn no treasure in even though the outpost is right here, and load up the boat nice and fat while no one watches the horizon.
